We’ve opened up the doors to another section of the Galactic Civilizations III website: the Civilizations page in the Databanks.
Curious where the Torians are at? Want to spot-check your knowledge of the wars that shaped the Drengin? Read up on them and the rest of the major players in the upcoming crusade right here.
Yes, preprogrammed navigation could have been used, but I think probes misses the entire scale of it. And the probes mentioned in the back story were used to map out the galaxy.
Hhhmmm. Do you recall anywhere in the back story where it mentions how the Drengin propelled the stargate they sent on that 70,000 year trip to Toria? I don't. (Also, when the back story says 70,000 years, I am assuming this means Terran years, not Drengin or Torian years.)
Great. You see my point.
From the GalCiv 2 manual, page 88:
"The process of conquering a planet in the pre-Hyperdrive age involved constructing a Stargate and then hauling it with unmanned ships to Toria. This took 70,000 years."
I'm pretty sure it was mentioned elsewhere too, but this was the quickest I could find.
Honestly, I just always mentally revise the dates given for Drengin and Arcean history down to a tenth of what's listed. I know they're not supposed to be that creative, but a hundred thousand years of technological stasis just seems farfetched.
The speed of light is beyond immense. The problem is when you make it a quantity like c, then 1c doesn't sound like much to some folk, and thus .0003c sounds slug-pace miniscule.
I am ready to play! (I have nothing of substance to say... just lots of enthusiasm for this project and its release data... Go Devs!)
I assumed whatever we've seen of the Krynn is the suits.
And the Thalans were always a contingency since they are a small group dedicated to the 'disaster' of humans.
"contingency: An emergency involving military forces caused by natural disasters, terrorists, subversives, or by required military operations. Due to the uncertainty of the situation, contingencies require plans, rapid response, and special procedures to ensure the safety and readiness of personnel, installations, and equipment. See also contingency contracting."
I was quite disappointed that Drath weren't mentioned separately. But in the other pages it says the Drath were extinct in Altaria and only remain in other planets. Dunno what happened to their new home-world. Perhaps they just shape shifted to hide from all the destruction.
As for the Korx, I never really cared much about them The Krynn seemed to have taken their space as a corporate entity now.
And the Torians... I started out not liking them much, but they've grown on me (perhaps they evolved from a marine parasitic species? If Stardock would have me, I could write evolution and other background fluff stories for all the civs ). I hope the Drengin don't use their skulls to sharpen their teeth like cuttlebones...
Nothing important. The Korath invaded it and wiped everyone out.
I have seen pictures of a space-ram scoop that would funnel hydrogen which is then used as fuel to power engines. Used in this way you would not need a huge fuel supply. Although the scoop would need to be several thousand square miles to scoop up stray hydrogen....
This has been answered now. From the Yor page:
"Since they were last seen, the Yor have begun to evolve from being a collection of individual sentient beings into a single super-organism. Thus they are now referred to as the Yor Singularity rather than their old moniker of the Yor Collective."
The Altarians are called a Resistance once more.
For the most part, this has also been explained now:
"Not a single race at all, the Krynn are an organization of many different minor races through a religious movement. After the defeat of the Korx during the Dread Lord wars, the remaining Korx and their allies joined the Krynn. This in turn changed the Krynn, and has brought the criminal elements of the society once again into ascendancy."
One more thing I still don't understand are the dates. The FAQ says, that the campaign will take place five years after TotA, which means 2232. The Thalan page, however, references 2242, while the Arcean page mentions 2247. So, which is it now?
Ah, so that's what happened to the surviving Korx. Given that there was a whole scenario about helping refugees escape the fall of their homeworld, it would have been odd if they had been treated as completely extinct.
I would like to hope some of those war profiting techs make it to the Krynn, and they have other low cost stuff. I have noticed that they r pretty stu[id most of the races. It takes them a really long time to do anything. I would like to see a lot more races though even if this doesn't work on the storyline.
