As there is definitely some interest in diversioty in ships, which has lead to the tactical arguement as well as some starbase changes.
One thing I was thinking was fighter craft, be it piloted or drones. Interceptors, fleet defense, patrol bombers etc. That adds some more options and ideas in combat. Its not just your giant ship versus mine trading blows, but with the fighters idea it can open the door to a LOT of diversity. And while I am also a Wingcommander fan and a backer for Star Citizen I am in NO WAY SUGEGSTING that these ships are character pilotable. More just squadron level commands, like which enemy to attach which friendly to defend. This also make sense for Starbase defenses as well.
Any thoughts on this?
With regard to small ships having too much range. I always thought that the Life Support Technologies should be tied to the size of the galaxy. For example, if there are 4 Life Support technologies, then all 4 would need to be researched for any ship type to get from one end of the galaxy to the other, and only 1 Life support module could be attached to any hull. So if you have a maximum size galaxy, you need to research all the Life support technologies for a ship to get from one end to the other without a support base or planet nearby. Each level of life support gives you ability to go 1/4 the length of whichever galaxy size you choose.
Unless your empire is in the middle of the map, in which case you only need half of the life support tree.
What is maps were actually circular?
I don't know, never shoot in vacuum, you know. And since I dropped University to join the Army, I never studied electromagnetic noise generated by shot. Apparently you haven't done that, so as more educated person, can you tell me what'll be should the second astronaut hear anything in case where he has no functioning receiver?
You know, that's brilliant idea. No way to hide in the "corner" of the galaxy. I like.
Having a map with limits is balanced however; if you hide in the corner, you're less exposed to trade routes and you have to invest more to expend, while the invest is true if you're in the middle.
Would it conceivable to toggle the option to switch between a map with limits and a circular map? I think it was possible in Civ 4, but I havent played in so long.
Yet your routes could be the longest, and to extent, more profitable.

But I think in GC environment getting "fenced" is... a bit artificial. I mean in SoaSE or Endless Space we had "links" between systems. GC3 is somewhat free roaming map, so...
I don't know about Civ IV, but Civ II had the option during map generation to switch between a flat map (no wrapping) and a cylindrical (East-West wrapping) map. Whichever you chose was what you'd get for the entire game on that map.
It's not like wrapping the map makes the environment any less artificial. In the case of a North-South or an East-West wrapping, you still have 'fences', in your phrase, on the other sides; in the case where all borders wrap around to the other side the game map essentially becomes the surface of a sphere. Neither of these is particularly more realistic or less artificial than the flat map would be; regardless of its form, the game map is just a representation of a region of special interest, rather than a map of the entire galaxy, or even of a significant region of the galaxy.

Regarding Carriers, is it accurate and agreeable that tiny hulls qualify to be carried? Is it acceptable to say carriers can be cargo hulls with a special module? Is there a role for them when it comes to invasion? Should fighter have a ranged attack for planets and/or ships that are deemed hostile to your Grand Holy Empire? LOL.
