Hi all!
I haven't played that many stardock games (only FE and gal civ 2) and I liked a lot of things of gal civ 2, among others the the sense of humor. Maybe it is a bit unnecessary to ask for this. Perhaps the humor was there in gal civ 1 as well and therefore probably will be there in gal civ 3. But I create this post, just as much to tell the SD-team how much I liked that part of the previous game, as I want to make a small wish to keep it in gal civ 3.
For instance. I just laugh when Lord Kona says something like: "Ahh, human, good to see you up on your hind legs"
Or when you get really powerful and talk to, say the Arcean, and they go something like: "I like you! I mean I really love you! Here have some stuff!" (and then they give like 54 credits...)
Or when the Korath clan comes up and say: "I just want to inform you that our civilization could utterly destroy yours. Not saying we would, just that we could, you know"
Or the little robot that present all the science breakthroughs.
And so on...
Its all these little things that make gal civ 2 such a great game (apart from everything else of course...)
Sincerely
/N
Since I'm lazy, I'll simply quote those posts that most closely correspond with my own feelings on the matter:
In other words, I don't mind the humor -- I even enjoyed it to some extent -- but I do feel it was too much in GalCiv2. The sheer amount of self-referential humor hurt the game's atmosphere/immersion for me.
Not that I would ever advocate it being eliminated entirely, but I do feel Stardock would do well to cut back on it significantly this time around.
Now where'd my necromancy spellbook go...?
keep its hilarious with all the random references
Humor is, to paraphrase an old saying, in the eye of the beholder. Some loved the GC2 humor, some didn't. I can't see that ever changing. I really find it difficult to believe anyone would reject GC3 as long as the humor is clean and PC.
GalCiv II had some great humor but the game was very inconsistent in it.
I don't mind a game being serious OR a game being humorous as long as it commits to it and is consistent. The problem with GalCiv II's humor, IMO, is that it was inconsistent which served to break the atmosphere of the game.
GalCiv III will be more consistently humorous but it's not a comedy of course. It just has its share of levity.
From a writing perspective, my #1 pet peeve of the Elemental games is that they take themselves too seriously. In Legendary Heroes, I created a quest character (Mimby) and wrote those quests to try to inject some humor into the game.
I want to chime in here... Please keep the humor in the game. I loved all of it...
+2 cents..
what about permitting the crew here to submit possible jokes, one limes, and funny - isms to SD for potential inclusion in Galciv3?
Lets begin: "You have to be kidding, that star is named what?"
Keep the humor! It is one of the things that made this game unique. I agree with the aforementioned inconsistency but overall it was great fun to read all dialogs and descriptions. The more serious 4X space game has already been made: Endless Space.
Submission for consideration:
"Our conglomerate of research and development facilities have just finished work on <insert technology name here>, When we figure out what it does, we'll let you know."
@Brad, what other recent space games - besides SINS - do you like to play?
