I am beyond excited about this game... and starting to get greedy about features. Haha.
That said...
I would love to see moons and large asteroids have some utility, as well as gas giants. Perhaps outposts to allow you to lay claim to them... military vs mining vs research, much like GC2's starbases? Upgradeable, attackable, and provide bonuses to the local planet much like asteroid mining.
This could get really taxing on your system, since these small bodies could easily outnumber planets by orders of magnitude. But you could put those on an options slider to help throttle the impact...
And... maybe something with stars, too. With advanced tech, maybe you can "mine" stars for fuel, energy, etc. Or build wormholes off of them...
Basically, I want everything in the galaxy to have eventual utility. I want ALL THE THINGS. hahaha
YESSSSS
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
/died from exertion on his poor heart...
How about movable (auto intelligent/private sector) sollar system machines?
Mine gas giants like ME3 , mine planetary rings, allow to build specialized buildings on moons according to their types and your tech, asteroid belt mining, GYARK (heart attack).............
I know the 'anti-planet spam league' will hate this one, but I'd love to see you able to do SOMETHING with all of those PQ0 worlds...
Not necessarily a whole 'colony management' thing, but at least build an outpost (similar to a starbase) that produces minerals, etc. Minerals are subsumed into economy, but something similar to the Asteroid mining mechanic would work nicely for these.
The bigger the world, the more valueable it might be. Some 'hidden gems' might be fun too, i.e. you establish a mining colony on vacuum world Vargas III, and find out that it has a large deposit of radioactives (+100 to income produced).
Also, Since you ARE mining those asteroids, those would make great locations for starbases, perhaps at a discount. Why haul all of those metal plates into the middle of nowhere when you have that big hunk of asteroid you can just hollow out...
Completely agree. This was one of the things I liked about Distant Worlds. Every planet had a use even if it was just for mining resources.
Awesome! Glad to see I'm not alone in wanting this.
I like the idea of using outposts as a land-grab, so that you can claim systems or even parts of systems even when they don't have colonize-able planets.
Also, in a separate post about starbases... one way to avoid "constructor spam" for outpost management would be to have an intermediary currency. So for example, colonies could be set to produce "outpost points" that could be spent on upgrading outposts after they're initially built. Then you could use a governor-style approach to manage all your research outposts, all your military outposts, etc.
All of this would allow you to really spam your empire across the stars without requiring heavy micro-management. And it could tie in well with diplomacy... if you did a big land grab with outposts early on, you could horse-trade them with the AI (or other players) for whatever they might have that you want.
