I told my wife she should prob divorce me if she wants to be rich after seeing all the games coming out. Warlock 2, Age of Wonders 2, XCOM Enemy Within, all the stuff Stardock is holding back from us, ...
Cool, didn't know they were going to continue with Warlock, I thought the DLC added a lot to the reply value of the original game.
Is Warlock any good? I wasn't really inspired to buy it by the reviews. AI was criticised, as was depth, too much of a grind at the end, etc.
No, it isn't very good, but it is a bit of fun. Pick it up at a sale is my verdict.
My 2 cents is that I like the tactical zoom in battles for a fantasy strategy game (like Legendary Heroes or MoM). Overland battles worked in Civ 4 but not for me in Warlock.
the way i see it:
10/10 = Master of Magic, Age of Wonders 2: Shadow Magic and Fall from Heaven with Modmods
9/10 = Fall from Heaven pure
8/10 = Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes
7/10 = Warlock: Master of the Arcane ( 7.5 with dremer DLC for some challenge!)
Mind you a 7/10 is still pretty damn fun. I look forward to Warlock 2 although my main hope for another 10/10 (but with up to date graphics!) fantasy TBS is of course with Age of Wonders 3. But if Warlock 2 adds some more depth i could see it easly becomming a 8/10
Warlock is more of a PVE interest.
You can spend a great deal of effort surviving the map itself. It's fairly entertaining, but also a frustrating game. Your champion units are extremely important to hold onto, but losing them is relatively easy thanks to critical hits. Once you jump the difficulty up high enough that the game becomes challenging, it's a real pain in the ass to keep things like wizards alive.
You don't have to grind though. The AI isn't any more successful at conquering the powerful areas than you are, if you ignore them and go straight for the jugular, you can take them out pretty efficiently. Even sieging the capital cities isn't that difficult.
I probably put 30-40 hours in it after I figured out how to play, aside from some mutliplayer games I occasionally play with another guy that likes it. Considering the cost of the game, it's definitely worth it if you like TBS.
I played this a lot myself. I was put of by reviews and bought it on sale later. Turned out its quite a blast for me. Trying to keep your first units alive all through the game. There are some mighty funny heroes out there as well (I love the rabbit). Well worth it!
I love warlock. It's fun. It's not very deep. But it is fun.
