A few of us would like to try a GAME-OF-THE-MONTH format where we all play the same game, share experiences, strategies, have some fun, and see who can win the victory condition by the earliest turn. The ground rules are:
- play by honor system (no cheats)
- do not use pioneer-bank exploit
- do not load from autosave unless you crash
We will try different factions, victory conditions, map types, difficulty levels, etc. The second game-of-the-month is outlined in screenshots below: Magnar, Master Quest, Fallen Dragon Map Defaults, 4 Opponents, Normal/Normal.
Post your end game screen or video when finished.

Awesome I'll try!
Just finished GOTM2 in 116 turns (score isn't very high tho). I'm thinking it can be done in less than 100 turns. Here's what I did and would differently so maybe you guys can try this:
SPOLIER ALERT
Very Nice, another GOTM! (+1 Karma for you, Trojasmic)The change to a different faction, victory condition, difficulty level and a map that feels completely different to GOTM1 are appreciated. It's a bit painful to admit but I just resigned my first serious try. I guess I underestimated the challenge. My whole strategy was based around defeating the ogres at turn 85 (I was already very well prepared for the end fight) but the ogres fight was way tougher than I remembered it to be.In fact I got my ass kicked, and my whole strategy proved to be incorrect. So, it's back to the drawing board for me...
I put a lot of effort and thought into this GOTM (much more so than the previous) one.In my third try I finally finished it in 79 turns.
I tried a couple of different strategies but in the end I settled on something similar to how Trojasmic played, but with a few twists:
SPOILERS-I Used Magnar to summon skeletal hordes (and single skeletons) and casted cull the weak on them for free mana.-I also casted cull the weak on a number of slave militia (to exchanges 1 turn of production into 20 mana).-I used detailed knowledge of the map layout to quickly establish 4 cities.-My second champion became a road building commander specialising in lore.-I didn't wage any wars with AI opponents, and just concentrated on the Quest. Why would I, when they were happily paying tribute?-I used consume on 1 shard relatively early to get going.-I used the kill spell (death 5) to finish off Waerloga. I only had a 12% success chance per spell attempt. Even though I was always able to cast the spell 3 times (which amounts to a 36% chance to win the fight), I still needed 5 reloads before I got the desired result.Possible improvements-I should have consumed 2 fire shards as well. I thought I perhaps needed them, but in the end I didn't use fire spells that much. I mainly used kill, horrific wail and touch of entropy, so only the death shards were in fact used.

Spoilers below.
Had a fun time exploring the map using cull the weak on skeleton army for mana. First hero went commander and roadbuilding.
Had 3 cities first a fort 5,3,1 spot second a town 2,4 spot and third a conclave 5,3,1 spot. Soverign was lvl 15 when i did the masterquest.
Wow at _flector_ turn 79 is indeed impressive.
For a faster finish i would have split up the heroes and used that experience spell. Not waiting on mounts (-50ish turns) for troops and probably some wars for free population. Probably would have built just conclaves and consumed alot of shards.
Did a second try to use the faster strategy. Sadly the game crashes turn 12 and loading autosave makes it crash turn 14 turn 16 and so on.
Nice job hyboric! Tell us more about how you did it. What would you do differently next time?
So when is the next one?
Now that the new patch is live I wouldn't mind trying my hand at one of these...
What kept you away before the patch?
Nothing. I usually just roll my own factions/games, but while starting up the game tonight to try out the new patch the idea popped into my head to see if there was a new game of the month.
