I just stumbled across these.
3 has been out since 2006 and only became avail on steam a couple of weeks ago.
4 is in beta for a coule more days and not yet avail on steam.
Reviews are very positive. Main weakness is that graphics are not that good.
If you can live with that though, and I Can. They appear awesome in scope.
I tried to get the download beta of 4 and couldn't. So I got the clunkeire three version
600 page manual - 600 spells 26 civs - 1500 units , tac battles create your own etc etc etc
3 has hot seat play.
I have NO idea what I am am doing but having quite a bit of fun just generating opening games.
I Guess thius is the fantasy verswion of gal civ, to pay a compliment
Note if you like building types ala MOM this may not impress
Here is a link to a hardcore Dom3 community. They play a lot of games by email. http://z7.invisionfree.com/Dom3mods/index.php?act=idx
Thank you, Lord Xia. You were very helpful.
I took the jump and started with Dom 3 a few months back. Didnt play before because of the learning curve (and graphics). Must say that Dom 3 is VERY cool and Dom 4 beta is even better. The UI is improved, and in most game that isnt all that important. Here is really matters cause of the game complexity. Autobuy of units is a super WIN.
I love Dom 4 and advise all strategists to try!
Ok Resok bugged me and planned the idea that I need it, looked it up and liked what I see. I'm downloading 4 right now. Should I get 3 too?
I would guess there is no reason to get 3 if you are getting 4.
4 doesn't seem drastically different from 3 anyway, just improves on it, there wasn't much to love about 3 anyway that shouldn't also be present in 4.
Though I'm not bothering with 4 for the time being. From what I can tell the mirco and UI are still below my standards.
It's still very much along the lines of 3, with more content and options. While micro is still an issue, there have been some much needed improvements, such as blood hunts sending slaves straight to the gem treasury, orders to conserve battlefield gem use, and repeat recruitment. It's certainly a better game than Dom3, while still holding true to everything the previous game was.
Thank you, I think I'll stick with 4 then. I'm running around with my head cut off but I know the big manual will be out on launch. I should start interrogating Resok.
Awesome game, very addicting. I stopped playing Fallen Enchantress because every faction seemed to play the same and made replaying boring. This game has tons of factions and most are very different from each other. Very high learning curve but well worth the time investment with long-term support from the developers. They added factions to Dominions 3 years after the game came out and their latest patch was a few months ago.
OMG THIS GAME IS GREAT! Funniest shit, had a group of archers most with missing limbs which I didn't realize at the start of a fight. My god who is a dragon would do his spells the rain fire on my enemies and then go melee. Longbows would support, my cav and infantry would wait before going to the slaughter, but NO half of my archers CHARGE HEAD FIRST IN BATTLE AGAINST CALVARY! REAL SOLDIERS! Hell my dragon then popped up right beside them and casted one last fire breath. Horrible but so damn funny. In my army you serve until death. Doesn't matter if your limbless u roll, hop, or whatever your ass to your enemy and kill them. If you lucky you can be put on guard duty... We will just prop you up against something... (I'm a terrible god)
