What happened to Global Warming?
When I put my first above ground pool in around the late 90's we were able to open it in April and start swimming in May.
Now my pool is just opened and still not warm enough to swim in
I'd like some global warming back...
South Africa gets it right....they have an 'open season' on poachers. [rhino]. They shoot first and ask questions later.
No-one should be able to 'buy' a kill of an endangered species.
Period.
Stick to hunting humans....they're not endangered. [other than by global warming]
See what I did there? ....
The whole idea of hunting for trophies is patently wrong and despicable. I don't care which lion, rhino, elephant it is, the whole senseless thing stinks to high heavens.
For mine, trophy hunters should be hunted by skilled bushmen with a view to a kill [there's a movie in that somewhere]. Hopefully trophy hunters would then become extinct long before their prey.
Nope! What did you do there?
And hunting trophy hunters to extinction would help reduce mankind's carbon footprint.... not that I believe in such a thing.
I see we have gone off topic (if there ever was one).
Get rid of humans. Poaching and global warming solved in one move.
You raise great discussion points. Two thoughts:
Holdren and Ehrlich stated, "'Indeed, it has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society,” Holdren and Ehrlich wrote in a textbook. “Few today consider the situation in the United States serious enough to justify compulsion, however'” - http://dailycaller.com/2015/02/04/activist-claim-birth-control-the-key-to-stopping-global-warming/.
Who is John Holdren? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Holdren
Who is Paul Ehrlich? https://ccb.stanford.edu/paul-r-ehrlich
Eugenics, the progressive dream.
There was one.... but that was so long, long ago it's too easy to go off on various tangents.
Anyway, back to global warming..... again....
Recent studies are now suggesting that fire ants are responsible for rising temperatures globally. A group of scientists working out of an old shed in a suburban backyard in Brisbane Australia have concluded that fire ants milling around and mating and procreating are the cause of rising temperatures and heatwaves of late. And when you think of it, they're probably right. I mean, sparks fly when just two of 'em get down to doin' the nasty, so it's not hard to imagine millions upon millions of 'em 'sparking' off localised heatwaves as they do what they do do well.
Yes, fire ants are a bigger threat to the planet than the fossil fueled generation of electricity, millions of cars milling about and spewing noxious fumes, and certainly more than the millions of sheep in Australasia [which includes New Zealand] expelling tonnes of methane into the atmosphere each day. I mean, we're lucky that fire ants haven't colonised the poles, or we'd be truly feched. The last thing we need is for the polar ice caps to melt because fornicating fire ants can't keep it in their pants, so let's all hope and pray they don't adapt to extreme cold and set up polar homesteads
I'd be more concerned about the quaint and current reality that opposite ends of the planet....the 2 'greatest' places for bushfires are currently having....bushfires.
Sure...it's fine that California's having them....it's the height of summer there.....but New South Wales? it's the 'height' of WINTER.
Oh, of course it's a perfectly normal anomaly [btw...that's the epitome of oxymoron].
It's all settled at the LA Times: link
Well, the forum ate my post, but here goes...
The average monthly rainfall in the area varies between 27mm and 18mm, it's a desert. An intentionally set bush fire, in a desert, is rarely anything but uncontrolled, winter or not. This would easily happen during the wettest and coldest years the area has seen, all it would take is a decent length of time after a rain, (the mean days of rainfall per month sit around two, a couple weeks is more than enough) and some asshole with a match.
California's main problem is that they don't clear brush. It's illegal to properly fireproof a residence by removing the brush far enough out to actually have a proper fire break, and they do next to no intentional burnings to counteract the damage done by stopping all the natural fires. I expect NSW has a similar problem, as the environmentally stupid vastly outnumber those with a history of fire behavior. Without us around stopping them, fires regularly burned vast areas in what is now the US, some laid waste to entire states.
psychoak....it's winter here in Oz.
Starts in June...so August is the last month...ergo it is the 'depth' of winter. We don't normally have bushfires in winter....arson or not.
Of course, re arson....that should be a capital offence without appeal.
Shoot first...say 'my bad' later....
Humans... they choose to live in places fraught with danger then complain when it actually happens.
The OMG, this area of brush is so beautiful I must build a house there, is suddenly replaced with...
...OMG, this brush is so dangerous, lets get rid of it...
Oh, and if you are going to live on top of a major fault, don't whinge when your house is shaken to bits. We don't want to hear about it and we don't care what happens to you
Well, complaining about a fire when you live in a forest is indeed idiotic, but you can live in a forest and still do intelligent things. I myself live in a heavily forested cattle area. There are hundreds of acres of trees on the property, and fires are frequent in the area, but the tree line stops hundreds of feet from the structures, and the scrub is kept maintained. Our fire risk is exactly zero, one guy with a hose can guarantee the safety of the home even in the worst drought conditions, without doing any fire breaks.
Californians should be able to keep their homes around by mowing their immediate surrounding down to the nub and watering it before they leave, instead they go up in smoke all the time because they're too dense to practice sound property defense and kick out the pinko's and do some reasonable land management.
Middle of winter....NSW has bushfires and Hobart has snow on the beach....
Re choosing stupid places.....most of 'middle America' where the annual trick is rebuilding houses blown away in hurricanes.
Just come to sunny Oz. We NEVER have hurricanes....not one....ever.
....cos down this end of the world they're called 'Cyclones'.....
....we do have those [sometimes]...
What's particularly nice is how much of that "annual rebuilding" comes from Uncle, via his pervy hands in our pants.
You are the conspiracy nut this time.
WOW....
'just' 2460 comments behind.
We'll just sit here a year or so and wait for you to catch-up ....
I had to, I just had to do Jafo. Lol
God, I love this place.
Until the fire ants move in.
Oh, and another huge reason why we have 'global warming'.... all the extinct animals.
Nah, seriously, think about it!
Yep. But mostly plankton & algae. Weren't for the damn Jurassic, we'd have no problem.
This summer is a definitive proof that global warming is really just a great hoax. The conspiring scientists even go so far as to pool their money for heating fuel and heat lamps to increase the temperature artificially. Sneaky scientist bastards.
I predict by December of this year scientists will conclusively prove 2015 was the hottest year on record. Anyone want to take a counter bet?
