What happened to Global Warming?
When I put my first above ground pool in around the late 90's we were able to open it in April and start swimming in May.
Now my pool is just opened and still not warm enough to swim in
I'd like some global warming back...

No they fechen didn't! There were no internet posts or peeple flapping about it on TV... NO, they just got on with things and hoped for the best.
And that's what we gotta do... hope for the best and let the planet do what it has to, cos the planet will eventually get over its hissy fit and put itself right again, with life springing forth in abundance to repopulate and multiply.
I like the bit about repopulation and what that entails, but I won't be here to fulfill any of that as I'll be long gone and the daisies will have stopped growing.
Seriously, I don't thing you fully realize the scope of the problem. It's similar to saying: "Execution? I've had worse. Just chop me head off and be done with it." But once he sees the axe and the block, it's different song altogether.
BTW the planet won't do anything, because it's an inanimate object.
Thank you Hankers, we need to be reminded once in awhile just what all the hand waving and chest thumping is all about. Some may have not appreciated the message from George Carlin but he had a way of putting things in perspective.
Thing is, I do understand the scope of the problem... and it is NOT global warming... NOPE, NOT AT ALL. There are natural causes for what is happening in the Antarctic, natural causes that have been occurring for a couple of billion years, but we won't talk about those cos governments don't know how to fechen tax them.
If you believe that then there is little or no hope you will ever see the bigger picture and start believing in the truth... which is that Planet Earth is a constantly evolving dynamic eco system, which can and does repair/heal itself.
Mankind has placed himself in harms way for centuries now, by camping at the foothills of active volcanoes, or right on top of faultilines/tectonic activity...aka earthquakes, and thoughout the centuries mankind has gone "oh woe is me, x-amount of thousands are dead", yet it is the planet healing itself. I mean, what do you think would happen if Planet Earth suddenly stopped spewing lava, or suddenly became one fused mass and there were no more plate tectonics or earthquakes? Yes, Planet Earth would become inanimate and would eventually die, as would all living things on it.
Coincidentally, the world's most fertile soils are generally situated over volcanic regions - because so many minerals and nutrients are brought up - thus creating rich farming lands, etc. upon which mankind grows food to survive. So for all the "woe is me", there is a huge plus to these so-called disasters... and maybe the increased number of volcanic eruptions over the last decade is just Mother Earth saying: "Well you've destroyed so much farmland and vegetation through mismanagement, so now I have to restore/put it back."
Hehe, Hankers, that Carlin clip is brilliant.. gotta love it. He puts it so much funnier than I, but he's on my wavelength and says pretty much the same things, though with a humourous twist to make it more interesting for his intended audience. I'm no expert on the subject(s), but I did go back to school in my early 30's to try to better myself, and through history, geography, geology and economics, I did learn something about the planet and our role on it... and because of what I did learn, I can't swallow this global warming crap.
Sure, mankind needs to clean up its act for the sake of future generations - food, health and cleaner living, etc - but it is not impacting on the planet to anywhere near the level these GW alarmists are trying to convince us of. However, there's huge sums of money to be made from environmental protection/cleanups,etc, and that's what all this GW crap is all about.... Greed and MONEY.
Carlin clip is one I revisit often. Excellent. No matter what we do, the environment will continue changing. The real question that matters for our descendents is this: How quickly will we turn the entire planet into a midden and thereby make it unsuitable for their continued existence.

What about the US? Like, have there always been so many powerful storms there or has it started a decade ago and people blame climatechange? Do americans believe in climatechange?

Increasing storm severity, and weather severity in general, is non-existent in the US. Low numbers of hurricanes, weak hurricanes when we have them, tornado producing storms are likewise less frequent and less severe. They make a lot of racket over the droughts as well, but the 30's have the last decade or two beat real bad on that front. There may be some nice droughts, but they're no depression era dust bowl.

A nice misleading list of hurricane activity. As you can see by the numbers, we have massively more the last couple decades than any time before, but landfall wise there's nothing unusual at all. 2005 is the only year that was particularly impressive, a real banner year with 3 of the top 10 landfalls. Unfortunately we didn't have satellite tracking in 1933. It matches up quite nicely, once you consider the several storms that milled about in the middle of the Atlantic would only have been reported by sheer dumb luck.
Outside of 2005, which really was quite the impressive year for hurricanes, both landfall and otherwise, the last couple decades have been decidedly uneventful. The last Category 5 landfall was Andrew in 1992, and it wasn't any better than the Labor Day hurricane in 1935.
There's a similar phenomenon being shown in tornado statistics, we've had relatively calm years recently, but when you find graphs showing overall tornado activity, they show massive increases since the 90's, due to our weather satellites picking them up, and tornado chasers running around filming them. The stats show massively more in the last few decades, an order of magnitude more in the 90's than were in the 70's, but the F3+ charts, which are the ones that stick around long enough to regularly do major damage people can see afterwards, show the 70's as having far more. Reporting could easily be skewing tornado statistics by a factor of 20.
The ice storm that hosed Christmas present deliveries was talked up mightily, but the one that hit the same area in the mid 80's left millions of people without power for months.
When used as an argument for climate change, weather is unimpressive.

Weather has gone through various fluctuations since before recorded history, and we have archaeological evidence of this, so what is occurring now is just another fluctuation caused by natural events. And no, it's not cows farting! Nor sheep! As some people would have us believe.
As for the weather being a cantankerous bitch, it was minus 4c here at 6.00am the other morning, and during the day it went up to 24c. That's a difference of 28 degrees and I'm not impressed. First off yer gotta get rugged up to the nines and wear thermal underwear so yer willy don't drop off, then yer gotta put on sunscreen once you've stripped it all off.
Anyway, while global warming is a crock of shit designed to part us from more of our money through various carbon taxes and the like, mankind surely needs to clean up its act and show greater respect for the planet we call home... cos frankly, there ain't any place like it.

I even believe he is partly responsible for 'global warming'.... wot wiv the extra heat emanating from the sun hitting his bald spot.
However, I am of the firm belief that all politicians should take a vow of silence to reduce global temperatures.
If they need to lie... er, say anything, they should carry a small blackboard and some chalk. Now that would reduce the carbon footprint considerably... silent politicians and NO electrical impact whatsoever from computers, mobile phones, etc.

A more clear-cut argument for the adverse effects of man-made global warming cannot be made. The science is now actually settled.
Has anyone ever looked at the wording of the surveys they give to scientists to determine what % of them believe in climate change? I got to see one recently and it was basically 4 questions that went roughly like:
1. Do you believe the average temperate has increased since the start of the industrial revolution?
2. Do you believe Carbon Dioxide, a green house gas, can affect temperature?
3. Do you believe that Carbon Dioxide has increased since the start of the industrial revolution?
4. Do you believe that human beings have contributed to the increase in CO2?
5. Do you think that human beings have contributed to the warming since the industrial revolution?
Now, I consider myself a skeptic but according to the climate change crowd, I'm on their side as I agree with all 5 of these questions. I'm part of the "98%" of scientists who agree in the climate change consensus.
Similarly, I believe (know) that if I jump up and down on Earth that it will affect the Earth's rotation. Of course, the mass difference means that effect is tiny but there is an effect.
The disagreement is not whether CO2 contributes to warming trends. The question is how much.
There can be talk and there can be talk.......whether or not anything will be done.......I seriously doubt it!
