What happened to Global Warming?
When I put my first above ground pool in around the late 90's we were able to open it in April and start swimming in May.
Now my pool is just opened and still not warm enough to swim in
I'd like some global warming back...
This relates in a general way. And should please those who consider me a quack.
I've always said this about theoretical scientists, that there's more piss n' wind than substance in their 'papers'. And what worries me is how many scientists have fudged results to 'please' certain bodies, either governmental or corporate. When you consider how may scientists are in the pockets of corporations and/or government [grants; study rebates; labs and equipment] you do have to question the veracity of various findings, and what was the driving force to reach 'that' conclusion. Was it science or corporate/government money?
So, when it comes to 'global warming' how many of the participating scientists owe their livelihoods and equipment to their benefactors.. eg, companies and or government? And how many scientist place company loyalty above scientific integrity? And who stands to gain the most from it should the world accept these findings?
I don't blindly swallow scientific findings as scientific fact because of these these very questions, and that's why I can't swallow this global warming tripe that's based on computer models and theoretical drivel. Somebody's paying for it, but for what agenda? We all know corporations put profit above all else, otherwise they wouldn't be in business. So the burning question is, which corporations envisage getting the most from this global warming travesty. I mean, corporations fucked the planet up over the last century to provide you goods and services, and governments let them do it... and in forgetting the profits and taxes they derived along the way... they're asking: "Why should corporations and governments have to pay to fix it?"
That's right, people, governments and corporations expect YOU to pay for their ecological indiscretions... and that's what this whole global warming charade is about....parting YOU from more of YOUR MONEY!
Am I angry? You bet yer sweet bippy I am. Did the corporations give a flying fuck about the planet 15 - 20 years ago? No, they continued to pillage, plunder and rape it... until now, that is.... well they're continuing to pillage, plunder and rape... but with an ecological message, backed up by pocketed scientists, that the planet is overheating and we need to act now. What this ecological message doesn't say, however, is that YOU will foot 100% of the bill to clean up THEIR act.
Seems fair to you?
You do know the 'Carbon Tax' was intended to make those 'corporations' you despise so much to actually pay their way...so the likes of Rinehart don't have a personal income of $2000000 per hour.
Needless to say Mister Budgie-Smuggler is repealing that because he has her as a pin-up to get all hot and sweaty over.
With the simple reality of what will soon be the richest person on the planet getting away with it...and a Govt making bloody sure she does...we're all in the same handbasket.
You want 'pockets'? Gina and her bunch have our current Govt by the balls.....and fondling vigorously....
Well, thats pretty easy. The money is overwhelmingly on the ANTI Global Warming side.
Most practical research is done by graduate students and postdocs. A grad student generally makes ~20-25k a year. Postdocs are currently at about 30-40k. Those numbers are for physics, since thats the field that I'm familiar with, but physics is one of the best paying fields, so thats basically an upper limit. Professors might make $60-120k depending on their tenure status, but the number of professors is small compared to grad students and postdocs in most groups.
If you compare that against the kind of money from the corporate side (which is overwhelmingly against Global Warming), then your question pretty much answers itself.
Yeah, the line of criticism from your link is certainly fair in some cases. But it doesn't really apply to this specific field.
Its a MASSIVE problem in Biology and medical fields. There is enormous pressure from corporate sources (which are a much bigger source of funding than most fields in bio/medicine) to produce certain results. And for whatever reasons, bio/medical is extremely intolerant of null results. Which is bad science, but since the relationship with corporate overlords is there...yeah, its a problem.
But its not as large a problem in other fields. After all, the major criticism from your link is that groups don't attempt to reproduce each other's results. But, we all know that there are actually many different, INDEPENDENT groups that do global warming modeling who all happen to find similar results. So, since multiple groups are essentially reproducing each other's results, the link isn't directly relevant in this case.
But yeah, I won't deny that science should spend more money and time trying to reproduce previous results.
Had the carbon tax been applied with specific rules and boundaries... ie, not hike up prices to compensate for it, then I was all for it... but every time our power bill went up, there'd be some arsewipe justifying it by saying the carbon tax had significantly increased their costs... then there was the roll on effect where the cost all goods and services went up due to increased fuel and electricity prices. Sorry, Paul, it does not make Rinehart or her ilk/peers pay any more... whatever costs they incur, taxes or otherwise, are passed on to us... you and I.
From what I read, the Carbon Tax can not be repealed without the support of Labor... and I see that coming no time soon. As for the budgie Smuggler, I see his popularity has dropped significantly since attaining office as PM. Personally, I never liked the man [for want of a better word] and never will. His holier than thou attitude makes me sick to my stomach, much like a bucket of raw prawns in the sun would.
As for my despising those corporations so much, there are some that I don't mind. I don't mind Playboy Corp; IGA [Independent Grocers Association] or Microsoft Corp... just don't tell anybody cos I gotta keep up appearances. I mean, it'd ruin my reputation as a dissenting hard-ass with attitude... and we can't have that, can we.
It's her personal wealth that needs taxing.....and a kick in the gonads for even suggesting importing Asian labour for peanuts.
Yep, pay offsite for people to take Australia's mineral wealth offsite...and the ONLY people to benefit will be her...amd her scab labour.
And no....the Libs have the numbers on their own...so the tax is sunk.
There was [past tense] a time when Oz was seen as 'visionary'....leaders rather than followers when it came to ensuring Industry paid appropriately....but not anymore....we too are poisoned by capitalism-at-all-costs.
It probably took me 5 minutes to post this comment.
In that time Rinehart TOOK $170,000 out of Australia's mineral wealth and stuffed it up her panties.
I agree wholeheartedly with your comments re. Rinehart and her ilk... scum of the Earth and should be expunged as such... washed down the sewer with all the other human waste.
And the Libs have the numbers on their own? Well we're all well and truly feched, then.
That fat Mining slug in QLD was to be taxed a squillion....but now he's elected to govt he gets to vote for it to be dumped.
How 'bout dat?
With a bit of luck he'll sink with his Titanic 2....and drown....
Like I said, Rinehart and her ilk. I don't like Palmer any better than her... and notice how the pair of them look like they ate the entire food care package to Ethiopia. Neither of them look like they've missed 4 square [banquets] 4 times a day.
Yup, I place Palmer and Rinehart in the same boat [titanic 2]... as both are greedy, self-indulgent, self-centred balls of blubber impersonating human beings... and as you say, with a bit of luck it'll sink and they both drown.
Hehe, they wouldn't need to send down a salvage team to bring it up again...they'd like just wait until their bodies bloat as most drowning victims do... their combined mass would refloat that tub in no time
Climate science has more in common with political science than with any physical science. It's, to be generous, one of the 'soft' sciences, where the hypotheses are not subject to falsification. It's also not nearly as transparent as it should be.
Flame away.
I would give you karma but...
Oh wait, wrong thread...
Why do armchair scientists think they know better than the real ones? You do know that 97% of all scientific studies support global warming, right?
Here in good ole' Maryland, USA we have what we call a "Rain Tax" whereby you (the homeowner) is taxed per squarefoot of impermeable surface you have on your property that potentially induces "runoff" which makes its way to the Chesapeake bay. The real reason for the tax, while the Liberals spun it as a "we are helping to clean the bay" tax (aka a "good" tax), everyone knows is a sham to just collect more money to pay for all failed social engineering and government run un-employment programs that are so easy to abuse that they don't work.
We pay ridiculously high taxes on everything and our roads never get fixed, stuff never gets any cheaper, we the people get less and less representation every year, and for what? So politicians on both sides of the aisle get to line their pockets.
end of rant
What they're not nearly so unanimous on is the cause. Take CO2, as the biggest hot button issue. Study after study has shown a correlation between atmospheric CO2 and the warming trend. However, the geologic and fossil records show similar correlation in many other historic warming periods that far predate Homo Sapiens. So where is the *causality* amidst the correlation? The simple answer is: we don't know but we damn well better find out.
On a side note to those who may feel sorry for Gaia for her own sake: don't fret, the planet will be fine. Worst case, we'll just get wiped out as a viable civilized species, knocked back to the stone age or further while our remains supply the fossil fuels for the next sapient to come along.
Way too sensible, there, Spock.
Woohoo, I haven't needed the air-con today... the world is cooling, the world is cooling.... hooray, hooray!
Um, I don't fret for the planet, got more than enough 'global warmers' jumping up and down doing that, and I'll leave it to the 'experts'
As for the planet being okay, no it won't! Mankind is too greedy and stupid to stop raping and pillaging it for everything it can extract to amass ever greater profit. Now if the global warming people were actually campaigning for the right cause, rather than something which has too many natural variables to blame it entirely on industry, then I might actually join them. However, I will not support something designed to confiscate more of the average Joe's money.
True, mankind needs to clean up its act to save the planet - can't say to keep the planet safe because we've already feched it - but it needs to be done from a genuine perspective, by targeting true ecological villains who are doing the most to destroy natural environments... the structure of the mantle upon which we and all species live. It may not happen in my lifetime, and people may scoff when I say the planet is in grave danger if we do not cease our relentless pursuit of more and more oil, coal and other minerals.... and God help us if some bright spark decides its a good idea to copy science fiction and drills down to the layer of magma to extract a new and clean energy source.
See, that's the thing, here! There is enough combined stupidity within the human race to inflict immeasurable damage on an already decimated planet, and while that combined stupidity, greed and reckless endangerment continues to be ignored - "Oh, that could never happen." - the closer we come to shitting in our own nest and spilling out of it. Wait!!!l We actually have shit in our own nest already, it's just the stench hasn't become too unbearable as yet.
There's a suburb not far from me, Collingwood Park, where several houses have needed significant repairs or have been demolished due to sink holes and subsidence cause by underground coal mines.... yet mining still continues around the wider Ipswich area. Again, it might not happen in my lifetime and people may scoff at what I say, but it would only take a severe natural event - earthquake, flooding - for the entire suburb to just disappear, well at least large parts of it. And that is only one location of thousands upon thousands around the world where mankind has seriously altered the geology of the area/region. And that's where the greed and combined stupidity... the reckless endangerment come into play... mankind doesn't know when to stop. Hence we are the ticking time bomb to an ever increasingly fragile planet.
If you think average Joe's money count in the big picture, global-warming or otherwise, you are being fooled. You are expendable, and that should scare you.
Nope, not in the slightest... everyone is expendable, many are irrelevant and others are just a waste of space.
So, given that I'm expendable, I feel pretty darned good about myself.
As for the 'Hot Earth Society'... the phrase I just coined to better label global warming proponents, they belong to both the other categories, for mine.
Their message under its present iteration, is irrelevant to me, thus making them a waste of space regarding both the big and small pictures
Of course the average Joe's money counts in the big picture/wider scheme of things. Without his money... and the hours he toiled to earn it, the upper crust would have nobody to take it from. With the exception of a very, very few, less than one percent, the rich and wealthy get where they are off the blood, sweat and tears of the average Joe, so don't try to pass off the little man's contribution as anything less than enormous
I met a few rich people over the years, and all but one of 'em were parasites leeching off everything and everyone around them, and all but one had never done an honest day's work in their lives.,.. or between them.
In fact, given how I watched them fritter away millions on self-absorbed and exorbitant lifestyles, I'd say the average Joe's money counts for a hell of a lot more.
Sorry.
Looks like someone's on a mission...
Death...........it was so close...
You should be.
Okay, so we any closer to getting this sucker locked up?
And while we're at it, how about locking the thread to prevent any more global warming nuts adding to it.
Sorry Daiwa, I just couldn't help myself..... well I could have but chose not to.
