What happened to Global Warming?
When I put my first above ground pool in around the late 90's we were able to open it in April and start swimming in May.
Now my pool is just opened and still not warm enough to swim in
I'd like some global warming back...
What man parts?
4:16 for the politics
A single blast of cold arctic air and suddenly all problems have blown away... yeah right...
Such cold spells happened in the past and sure it was cold for a few weeks, but they did absolutely nothing to prevent any of the warming in the decades that followed.
What? You mean global warming hasn't eliminated winter in the eastern half of North America yet? Pfft...
Our local ski hills could use some winter - there's no snow and it's 7 degrees C.
Just like 'Superstorm-since-they-couldn't-call-it-a-hurricane' Sandy was caused by AGW, a direct consequence of Exxon-Mobil.
Apparently global warming hasn't eliminated unusual Antarctic sea ice in summer, either.
It's really way easier to be an AGW proponent, since everything that happens is 'evidence' of AGW, cold or hot. Never mind the predictions of increased tropical storm frequency & severity in 2013 and a warmer than normal winter; the absence of same, the unusually low number of 2013 tornadoes and the record low temps across NA are all evidence of AGW. Just staring us right in the face and we still don't get it.
Your single blast of cold arctic air is responsible for record setting cold temperatures throughout the country. Where I live we just hit the coldest temperature in over a century.
Trying to dismiss a record cold storm with "it's winter" makes you sound silly. Especially when every devastating warm-weather caused storm is trumpeted as further proof of AGW. You can't have it both ways.
Either weather is "just weather", and therefore unrelated to AGW, or it's not, and therefore all weather must be considered a relevant data point.
No, what's silly is trying to relate a single event in a small portion of the world to global climate change over decades. It's a displacement of Arctic weather in this instance. What has caused the polar vortex to spill South so much rather than sit around the North Pole do you think?
Lower air pressure in hotter areas that has allowed the higher pressure air in the north to push the low pressure further south then it normally would.
Ya know, I'm entirely sick of hearing all this bullshit about [man made] global warming. It's total crap and we need to dismiss it as such.
As with any other statistic/measurements, the date collected for this money raking exercise has been manipulated to suit those with vested interests... big business, governments and scientists who yet haven't proved anything else worthwhile. The entire farce is about hiking up prices so that we pay more than we should need to for power, fuel, manufactured goods, etc. It's about the aleady stinking rich lining their pockets with even more of your money, and the sooner everyone realises this the better.
So sea levels are rising, so-say due to industry, man made pollution, etc, but there's never any mention of subterranean volcanic activity when their studies are published/made public. I mean, fech me, if a few volcanoes don't warm oceanic waters I dunno what the fech will.
And all that airborne pollution we're responsible for, the volcano in Iceland spewed out more toxic crap in a few dayss than mankind has for half a century or more. Global warming my arse! The events and temperature fluctuations have been occurring for millions of years... and they will continue for a few million more.
Yup, cavemen and other primitives endured the same weather extremes as we are now... the only difference now is that we have a bunch of greedy smart-ass businessmen, politicians and scientists who have beenh paid for seeking to profit from it handsomely... at YOUR friggin' expense.
I'm not saying manking should not clean up its act... it should, but wealthiest 1% should not get even wealthier for employing better practices for the environment. I mean, they've been polluting the planet since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, 200 plus years, so do they suddenly give a fuck now? They didn't give a fuck back then, nor 100 years ago... not even 50 years ago. No, there they were mass producing and polluting the planet in the name of profit, and if they give a fuck now, which I very much doubt, it's in the name of profit.
Put bluntly, Global Warming is a money driven debacle to part you from more of yours.
Why, evil profit-driven carbon-based industry, of course. That and bovine flatulence. What else could it be?
starkers I dare say that what you expressed in your reply has been and is the opinion of most of the folks that are either old enough to have seen several winters or are of the mind that they look at history (and not just recent) rather than just statistics to help them understand just what is going on with the changes we see.
When you do grow old one of things that becomes evident is that our planet has some very distinct cycles it goes through and they are there and available for anyone willing to take some time to look at.
We are all entitled to our opinions but they get trumped by facts, and all the facts, not just the ones we may choose to use in forming our opinions.
So far, the 'global climate models' (you know, the ones done up by scientists) have had no better predictive accuracy than the Farmer's Almanac.
Nah, it's not that. I know a couple of old cows... and they doth protest vehemently if I ever suggest they fart.
Even a little bit.
That's it exactly. I recall a couple Winters back in the mid-60's in Devon, Southern England that were so cold they froze the knobs off a brass bed, and that was not usual for that part of the country. We had temperatures well below zero C several days in a row and we couldn't go to school or work because the major roads were all closed... to the public at least.
The thing is, it was unseasonal weather and was the coldest on record for the area in 70 something years. It hasn't gotten that bad since then, well not to my knowledge, but I have no doubt it will happen again... though not because of so-called global warming. Events like that seem to go in cycles, and when the right conditions prevail [a cold front in the Irish sea and Westerlys similarly blowing down off of Dartmoor] it will happen again.
Personally, I think all the yuppy-type businessmen who created this global warming fallacy are/were hoping that we old timers had 'old timers' and had forgotten all about the unseasonal weather of the past. They don't want any arguments or for anyone to prove them wrong, so if we manage to thwart them and put the knocker on their schemes they'll have to delay things a few more years until we're all gone.... cos they can't discredit us all, can they?
As for the facts, they're all fuct.
Now now, that's not fair. They get paid more to be accurate... or to tell lies more convincingly.
Your emotional dislike/rant and wild guesses about volcanoes and conspiracy theories about "the rich" are not very convincing evidence of anything.
He doesn't need to convince anyone of anything. He is your target audience. He is who will judge whether you are persuasive or not. He isn't attempting to pick anyone's pocket or sell anything. He is the buyer.
Sooner that is recognized, and respected, sooner we may get somewhere.
I give this an A for effort. OK, maybe a B-.
Australia has a 7-year drought cycle....with a peak [greater] one every second...aka 14 years.
2013 was the hottest year on record in Oz....so much so that the B.O.M. introduced a new temp colour range to its maps...50 to 55 Centigrade.
For the non-decimal just think of it as 'fucking hot'.
2 years ago I was laying bricks one Jan....it was 46.2C .... a record for Melbourne ...for those geographically-challenged....that's the bottom end of Oz....sort of 'closest' to Antarctica.
Sure, it's cute to say 'this is normal' except it isn't....and when [not if] the records are broken yet again it will still be 'normal', won't it.
For some it's all 'bullshit'....but for others it's simply page 74 of monotonous repetition.
I REALLY THINK it SHOULD be a pre-requisite of ALL respondents to this thread, old and new, that they MUST read each and every comment on the thread before they are allowed to participate.
If that were the case most would simply say 'fuck it...this is going no-where....and being bloody slow about it'...and simply find a better topic.
There's intellectuals; then there's ignorant, self-absorbed intellectuals. Democracy is about the right of every individual, ignorant or intellectual (both defined by intellectuals, of course), to equal representation and equal standing before the law, among other things.
The irony is that it was certain intellectuals, truly, with keen insights into and understanding of human nature, who created our variation of democracy, a representative republic of limited government. Which other intellectuals, self-designated or otherwise, have been trying to undermine and/or commandeer ever since.
In this context, ignorance is the desire and willingness to leave one's fellow man alone and intellectualism is the compulsion to pester one's fellow man to death.
So... he's posthumously on your side? Did anyone ask HIM that?
Any chance the ignorance lies on the other side of the debate? Probably not, but I thought I'd ask just to be sure.
However we now live in a world were ignorance is a choice. If you want to know the truth about anything you can look it up in a matter of seconds online and find out the different points. From which when you look at the data and information critically you will reach the conclusion that in this case climate change is largely driven by human activity. However like stated people are choosing to remain ignorant and to simply believe what is mention on the main stream media.
I know it's a sad world when one wilfully chooses to be ignorant.
Except that significant numbers of intelligent people have looked at the data and remained unconvinced. And instead of more discussion and the burden of proof shifting back to those who are trying to "change the world", we instead get bullshit about how we are "deniers" and "ignorant". We get dumb /r/politics worthy memes taking a quote from a dead guy that had nothing to do with AGW and applying it to whatever causes you want to paint those you disagree with as ignorant. Nice touch lumping in those who do not believe in carbon driven global warming with not believing in evolution. That's subtle as a brick to the face.
Now I remember why I ignored this thread for the last few weeks.
Talk about encapsulating the arrogance of the warmists. Telling people what conclusion they 'will' reach.
"You can look at the data all you want, but you are ignorant if you come to any conclusion other than mine."
