What happened to Global Warming?
When I put my first above ground pool in around the late 90's we were able to open it in April and start swimming in May.
Now my pool is just opened and still not warm enough to swim in
I'd like some global warming back...
The science is not settled - http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2016-01/uoo-uit012616.php
Oh, the irony and the beauty. Briffa v. Mann.
So, Mods how is global warming not politics, but discussing Martin Shkreli's is?...
Sounds subjective...
Because this thread is policed in order that it remains apolitical.
Like it or not...idiot opinions [whether for or against] are bipartisan/apolitical/whatever you wish to call it....
As far un secretary generals opinion it was him who said that in spite of what the un releases it is not scientific. According to some scientific evidence it is not locked down.
I don't have an idiot opinion.....that would require far more intellectual ability/restraint than I possess.
Of course it's not. It is ever evolving.... one day backing somebody's theory up and the next calling them a liar....which is so reminiscent of this gloabal warming hogwash.
How not to measure temperature.
Or, how our 'settled scientists' measure temperature.
It's a common misdirection to use that line when confronted with the preponderance of evidence that shows it up as nothing more than a poorly directed money grab, is that close enough?
Where I'm at, it got warmer, in the 90's. It's cooled back off a bit, which is in line with the satellite records for the Earth at large.
No, I think it's correct.
Well I think global warming is cooling off around my parts.... and good thing, too, I hate sweat rash in that vicinty.
The east coast got slammed by a huge storm. Nine people dead, houses ripped to sheds and a forecaster on NBC called the possibility of a moderate tornado somewhat unusual for this part of the country. Next thing ya know an EF2 rips into Lancaster county not twenty miles from where I live. Yet, even though our region was under a tornado watch, here in West Chester, we got almost zero. Some rain, wind and that was it. Seems spring is early by a couple of weeks. Point being weather patterns are changing, mostly due to an El Nino that some say is the strongest in 12 years. An El Nina has the opposite effect and that could influence conditions in the Atlantic more favorable to hurricanes. Leave them both out and everything returns to a semblance of normalcy. Neither one of these two phenomenons are predictable and the only way we get to see the effects is when they're right on top of you. Global warming? Doubtful.
Precisely! What is was, really, was a iddy biddy storm clould rolling around the heavens minding his own business... until he tripped on a speed hump put there to slow down speeding clouds and prevent avoidable collisions. Yeah, alot of the young clouds have absolutely no patience and always wanna be there yesterday, though yet again I have digressed
Anyhow, there's this iddy biddy storm cloud, tripping and stumbling all over the place, picking up junk and debris along the way, before coming to a standstill some hundreds of miles away. In the meantime, his chaotic travels have cut a swathe of destruction on the poor innocent folk below.
Anyone who thinks they have a better, wackier explanation is welcome to post it here.
Better, yes, wackier, no. Shit happens.
For a more informative version, it's been unusually warm for February in the US, with the jet stream further east than it typically is this time of year, allowing cold fronts to mix with the warm air closer to the east coast, forming tornadoes outside of tornado ally, but not in places that are actually abnormal, just not particularly common. Now if we start having tornadoes in Alaska, prepare to meet your maker because the end is nigh.
The thing is, this dead horse has been flogged andressurrected so many times now, and nobody can prove that global warming is anthing more than a cock-eyed theory, so I tend to have a bit of fun with it... like bend the truth a little, sometimes a lot in a tongue-in-cheek sort of a way.
We have had similar weather events here in Oz, with cyclones appearing more frequently, in areas that don't normally experience them, but it has nothing to do with gloal warming. Rather, they are the result of cyclic, naturally occurring events that have happened throughout history.... and always will. I keep hearing about how the cyclones are getting stronger and more ferocious, and how there's nothing like them in living memory because of global warming, but in reality, cyclones aren't gething more frequent or feroious because of anything mankind has done.... and there were more powerful cyclones recorded in history... Darwin 1974, for example.
Sadly, various greedy and ruthless men have concocted this fallacy of global warming to acquire more of our cash, and sadder still, so many have swallowed it hook, line and sinker, almost giving it a validity like it were gospel. Fools, that's all I can say.
Shit happens was my "better" explanation, for what it's worth.
Okay, I hope they make umbrellas for that.... the shit happens bit, that is. It's not weather I'd like to go out in without one.
I don't know, it's got a lot of nostalgia for me. I've had a soft spot for it since the early 90's when I played the Catacomb series. You are knee deep in bat guano!
More bullshit propaganda based on "models".
Hehe, knee deep, eh? That'd be more voluntary than getting caught out in a shit storm without a brolly.
There's places on the planet where one puts their clean laundry at risk from a pigeon shit storm unless they have an open brolly... Trafalgar Square being one of them. My sister was visiting London a few years back and got splatted 4 times in just a few minutes while taking photos in Trafalgar Square.... oh the perils of leaving home without one's brolly.
I'll say it's bullshit! Sea level rises from 30 feet up to 165 feet? Come on, that's gotta be pushing the scare factor buttons to alarm people... and unnecessarily so, too. How irresponsible and reckless!
Like I've said before, by all means, let's clean up our act, but at the same time, let's be honest about it.... the reasons why. This global warming crap is the biggest bunch of lies ever assembled in one place.... with its so-called scientists riväling even politicians and car salesmen on the bullshit meter.
Yup, they should have their mouths washed our wirh [industrial strength] soap and water.
Just to let you know.....you were quoting a spammer who has no relevance with the topic...
{he's no longer with us, BTW]
Hmm...
What's more of issue....same site....

Just goes to show there are crap sites everywhere...and people treat them as gospel.
The recent remake [whatever] of the X Files had the catch phrase finally dawn on me...."The truth is out there".
It din't mean....somewhere you will find the truth....
...but ....the truth is simply 'weird'. "out there" had 2 meanings...and it was a pun....
2 cents of mine I was thinking about the other day. We went into miny ice age n the 1300's the over all global temp dropped 4 degrees celcius. Since 1850 the ice age ended, and the over all global temp went up 1 degree celcius, and glaciers receeded 70 miles.
This is bad news. That means we are going to cause the over Al global temp to rise three more degrees celcius. We are going to experience Al Goors point of no return and glaciers are going to recede 210 more miles.
Really? Some/most glaciers aren't 210 miles long, so how could they recede beyond their actual length?
I think somebody's got their hand on their willy, Wilber.
Oh, and it's Al Gore.
