What happened to Global Warming?
When I put my first above ground pool in around the late 90's we were able to open it in April and start swimming in May.
Now my pool is just opened and still not warm enough to swim in
I'd like some global warming back...
I love this thread.
Is anyone of you like me in that you don't care about data that's presented in some site that average Joe don't know about?
All those sites that's been linked to, no matter what they're called, are "distant" to me.
I know it sounds SO mainstream and perhaps ignorant but really, I almost only care about my own observations about the weather and YouTubeclips that explain things in an easy way. Like clips that shows glaciers getting destroyed or warmed up and such.
Yes, Psychoak, I know you're staring at the screen in disbelief and probably facepalmed so hard the neighbor heard it
1. Bones?! Was that a TOS joke?! Don't take my nicksake's nick in vain.2. Bones?! The horse was lucky to have bones. We only had cartilage!
Cartilage? You were lucky to have cartilage. We only had a few stringy sinews hanging by a thread.
I don't! Well not yet.... however, I am 'warming' to it.
I actually had a problem with the data specifically because of the local weather. I started looking into this because I was somewhat confused by the idea that 98 was the hottest year on record for the US, well above the dust bowl era. My grandfather grew up in the depression, and his family left the dust bowl on account of it being a dust bowl. I currently live on the edge of that dust bowl now, on the farm he bought when he retired, in the same county he grew up in. I found it perplexing that higher temperatures were supposed to result in more severe droughts, considering the drought this area has been in was far less severe than it was then.
After that, my natural curiosity took over, it's a curse really, and several hundred hours later, I knew more about the subject than the scientists they poll for support. The why behind the lacking drought and other obvious indicators that the US was in a hotter than the 30's climate was explained by the discovery that they reduced old records, and corrected new ones up even though they were in urban heat islands and reading high to begin with. As the years have gone on, the obvious corruption in how they manipulate the data to fit the theory has become far more obvious, but they were already shifting the temperature trend by well over a degree in the late 90's
One of the things you have to realize is that the media, even people posting videos on youtube, are heavily biased towards the destruction of global warming even if they don't have a dog in the race, simply because of the nature of media. No one wants to watch videos of glaciers expanding, it's not sensational or exciting in any way and you'd have to time lapse footage for ten years to get the point across anyway. It also garners a lot more attention if you hype it up when storm X rolls through town, even though it's just a generic, boring ass storm the place has seen a hundred like in the last century. The flooding in the northeast of Texas a few months ago was a perfect example, it was terrible, set new records, blah blah blah. The last time the Red River flooded bad, it washed the railroad tracks out and there were fish swimming across 271 north of Paris, I drove through it about an inch below the peak flood, it was only 5 or 6 inches, and it was a good 15 feet short of the railroad tracks. That was only thirty years back, and they pretend it wasn't far worse.
I reserve face palming for the truly depressing, like whatever the fuck is wrong with my last post. I tried to fix the quotes but they weren't broken.
Edit: Apparently copying someone's post is including hidden metadata that fucks the quote system, I had to use the quote button and copy the quoted text into my reply and nuke my original post to get this one to behave...
The horse be damned eh?
Horses are dumb, smelly animals, I'm not too bent out of shape over it.
.....but they make good glue....
That's right, condone something that exacerbates 'global warming'. Shame on you! The processes to reduce a horse to glue are well known to add to already rising temperatures. So no, while the glue itself may be of high quality, it's not a good idea to 'gum' up the atmosphere with dead horse.
There is definitely correlation between the lack of global warming and the loss of horse manure due to the horses' deceased state.
Keep floggin' em lads
The universe of possibilities based on unproven theory, speculation, correlation, association and imagination is infinite.
The universe of possibilities based on facts and (un-doctored) evidence is rather more discrete and finite.
This particular horse has been beaten to death over and over and over......
my two cents.
That's what I've been trying to say for ages, except people keep feeding the horse in the hope they can beat it some more.
All that's left of the poor bloody thing now is the pile of manure...
I once had a great idea for how I could help save the Earth from the dreaded "global warming" when I heard Al Gore explain his concept of the "carbon footprint". I live in a small apartment... Al Gore has several mansions each of which uses more electricity that my apartment even when he isn't using them. So if I were to burn down one of Al Gore's mansions... I'd have such a massive black hole of a carbon footprint that I would be in the red for life! I think it's a great idea. But, of course, I would never burn down one of Al Gore's homes without his permission. I'm sure Al Gore is a man of integrity who believes what he says, though, so I am sure he would support the idea. Anyone have Al's phone number? Together, me and Al will save the world!!!
Why stop at one? There are NO half measures in these desperate times, so I say burn down the lot.
Burning down one of his mansions would put a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere though. One of the great big jokes of the theory is that wildfires put out more CO2 before industrialization than the transportation sector does now.
Then there's all the volcanic eruptions as well.... not to mention all the hot air above Canberra Washington, etc, sucking the oxygen out of the atmosphere.
Frankly, politicians should keep their mouths shut... thus killing two birds with one stone:
1: A massive reduction in CO2,
2: No more lies/broken promises.
I stopped paying attention to this a long time ago. I have yet to see any kind of consensus. There are deniers, naysayers, wannabe experts, scientists fabricating data and getting caught at it. Money in one hand and to another, on and on. No one knows, no one can know with any certainty. There are too many variables. Greenland losing some ice, huge icebergs calving off of Antartica in one place and gaining ice in another. Its a never ending farce.
The global warming nutcases refuse to recognize that the planets climate is always in a state of change and always will be. They are incapable of understanding that they have never shown that anything other than this natural cycle is occurring. And yet they claim science is on their side and ridicule anyone who attempts to point out the problems in their often silly beliefs. My favorite is that the north pole will melt and flood the world. That ice is already in the water, displacing all the water it is ever going to displace no matter what form it is in. But I apparently I am the crazy and un-scientific person for pointing that out.
The only way the earth will ever flood is if an alien race institutes a massive water relocation program and brings an ocean full of water here from another planet. Man, these people are brain-dead stupid!
I agree.
You know, there is a cartoon that goes like this: a man is sitting at a PC typing madly. His wife/girlfriend asks him to come to bed. He responds "I can't. this is important" She asks "What is". He responds "Someone is wrong on the Internet".
Really, if you're all so tired of people posting a pro-climate change positions here, why do you keep responding?
You're not even responding with facts anymore. Just ridicule, jokes and name calling. and actually expecting someone to review 105 pages of comments.
Let it go. What they believe isn't going to do anything to you. Just let it slide, take a deep breath, and move on to the next thread
No one who has any real influence on climate change policy is going to post in this forum, so it's a huge waste of your time and energy.
And I have a productive suggestion. Just collect a few links to articles that you believe explain your position, and when someone posts here, just resond with a cut and paste of those links. Done.
I have been saying exactly this from word go. Fluctuating weather patterns/climate have been happening for millions of years. There were times of drought, times of flood, and times when it got hotter than usual, but it didn't mean that mankind had anything to do with it. Caveman may have discovered fire and invented the wheel, but that is a far cry from industrialisation... and just because we have become industrialised, it don't mean we have somehow altered things to such an extent as to initiate [such vast] global warming.
As for the poles melting and flooding the world? That's total bullshit! It is meant to induce fear in the ignorant and non-understanding.... to derive bucket loads of money from fools who believe in it. As you rightly pointed out, there can be no water displacement when the ice is already in the water.
There is NO science in this global warming bullshit, just scientific crackpots incorrectly adding up stuff to try and prove their theories... and the annoying thing, if you challenge their 'theories', which is all they are at best, just theories, they and their believers can become quite angry and even aggressive.
What he said.
It's all just pissing into the wind.....and at the end of the day all you get is smelly legs....
Facts? I didn't know facts were required to disprove a theory without fact... or that jokes, ridicule and name calling was/were exclusive to the global warming theorists/believers. I just figure that if they can ridicule me and hurl abuse for not agreeing with them, I can ridicule them, hurl abuse back and call 'em rude names.
What's good for the goose.....
Besides, this thread is on speed dial and I can't help ending up here and taking the piss.
I've always responded with facts, even when ridiculing someone. After all, when you call an idiot an idiot, you're still stating a fact.
This got me banned before, if I remember right...
