Love the overhauled battle mechanics, traits tree, graphic upgrades, and bug fixes (compared to first Fallen Enchantress). First-class game now.
But -- Am I missing something? Only a single scenario? Every competing game in this genre, unless it sells for only a few bucks, going way back to the first Warcraft, has lengthy Campaign, with many scenarios. Yeah, its a huge map, but still...
What would justify the price is a scenario for each Sovereign.
Rushed to market?
Even if I have to pay again for another upgrade, that is what I would like to see. Plenty of variety now in factions and monsters -- just need a variety of missions. More storylines.
I don't particularly like the other maps that are included. Playing random maps now, to try out different trait development. But not really enjoying it, feels repetitive, purposeless.
Now, the concept of having an RPG plot within the sandbox mode is totally viable, and I would have thought easily doable considering the questlike structure FE has.Thoughts?
-Edit: Was quoting GFireflyE here, but my formatting messed up.
While FE/LH is a sandbox game at it's core, I think other scenarios featuring the other stock sovereigns is a cool idea. We could see the Rise of the Empires in between Fallen Enchantress and Legendary heroes. I'd also be interested in how the other Kingdom sovs either came to power (Irayne Carrodus) or consolidated what they inherited (Procipinee and Markin).
Does Civ have scenarios?
Do MoM MoO GalCiv have scenarios?
Honest questions, I don't remember playing any.
TO me, FE/LH feels quite different than Civ & GalCiv, which don't have heroes to level. I was expecting a product along the lines of Might & Magic Heroes. But with more depth to economy & relationships to competing AI opponents. Or the Warcraft / Starcraft series, but turn-based.
Hence my original post. My misperception of the type of experience Elemental/Stardock was offering.
I like the sandbox aspect of games. Thousands of hours with every variation of Civ since the first one.
But I also like missions or scenarios that fit an overarching storyline.
I greatly enjoyed M&M Heroes 6 campaign, with its storyline experienced through the POV of each of the factions, and the relationships between the children of Elrath.
I would LOVE to see something similar based on LH.
I don't play scenarios in these types of games either. I've never played a scenario in civ, for ex, and I've avoided buying quite a bit of civ DLC because it's not worth $5 for a civ + scenario(s) I'll never play.
I'm also disappointed that there aren't more scenarios, or a more lengthy campaign. Like the others I play sandbox primarily because there is absolutely no connection with the built-in factions aside from what you can figure out on a stat sheet. Brad wrote a book, but my experience with books about games isn't favorable, so background lore from there is nil.
IMO, If Stardock were to get around to delivering more DLC, I would be someone that would pay cash for additional scenarios that did more to establish the world of Elemental lore.
For everyone that has not played the scenario in LH, it's really fun, and essentially just a sandbox game on a fun map with A.I. team play, and some scripted events. You're missing out if you don't give it a try, even if you are a sandbox only type of player.
I'm my opinion this game could be more complex, with more e specific elements which makes chooses more harder and makes a bigger difference, also could make more factions instead only kingdom vs empire, a example could be magnar as the slaver master + resoln as the dark soccer + a new demon faction + a undead new faction being part of one group and the same for others "races"
A better balance to AI should is necessary, they should be more harder but without get free levels without do a shit or make citys near monster wildlands without a worry about...
Also minor updates should be welcome like, mini list of guard mode soldiers, auto upgrade all units with a hot key, directly go to traits with a hot key, ctrl + number to select the spell on right slot and more things like that, just to make the game better to play.
But with all of this, I still say this game is cheap and worth all the money paid.
