I've logged about 80 hours now or so on "legendary heroes" and I find it too easy.. yah, know get yourself a cave/maul bear into your army with a collar/spell and you are semi-unstoppable..
In all my hours of playing.. I have yet to even build one army in my cities or need one..? in fact cities seem a waste! (purposeless), be attacked by the AI (one time)? and when I take my armies against the AI I just crush e'm anyway.. this game reminds me of "age of wonders" which was also a easy game.. cept it wasn't ALWAYS easy..
I've tried turning up the settings on my single player games.. but I still find it too easy.. I think maybe the problem is the monsters help me level up/equipment up so easily and or get that "cave bear" that I become unstoppable so I'm thinking of removing monsters which will make me have to go to war for experience etc.
Am I the only that finds the game easy.. the AI incompetent or what? Is there something I'm missing..? I'm running games on insane now and while there's a few monsters I can't beat with no losses "yet" a large percentage I could do within 20 to 50 turnsI've only beaten one game so far and that was the scenario which just go so boorrrrring (cause too easy) in my expert/insane games I haven't even bothered to beat it.. cause it was "too easy" I would like to try building armies for my heroes..? but seems pointless cause I haven't needed it so far.. at least turning off the monsters I believe that will change it
Saving and reloading breaks balance, and invalids any complaints as far as I am concerned. Let people save and reload as much as they want, but please Stardock, dont change the game based on such playstyles.
Oh please you knew what the OP was saying lets not get bogged down in this Political Correctness crap that has plague the country for yeas now.
Bottom line is the game is too easy. And it is too easy for those of us who never save and reload which I don't. Oh I'll save and use auto save but only reload if A) the game crashed or I've stopped playing for a while than later on come back and play again.
Never do I reload for stupid reasons like losing a battle or getting a start up area that is not good to settle when game starts etc.
One thought I had for making Tame less overpowered is to only allow it to be used on animals which are the same level or lower as the caster. That way it is still useful, but just not so overpowered at the start of the game. Playing on a higher difficulty level which makes monsters higher level would then at least mean that your sovereign had to do a few battles and quests without beasts before building up a free army of bears and spiders etc.
Consume shard and Cull the weak does seem pretty overpowered as well (this was Chaosti's strategy). I like the tradeoff with Consume, but 200 mana is too much. 100 mana, which would probably be enough to win one big battle, would still make it worth doing. Cull the Weak + Summon Skeleton Horde is even more overpowered. Make your sovereign a summoning mage and get to Summon Skeleton Horde, which you takes what, three or four levels? Now cast Skeleton Horde in every battle. It's a powerful spell capable of winning battles in its own right, but the main point is that when you've won the battle, surround the last remaining enemies with skeletons and put them on Defend. Now cull the surviving skeletons. If you can only cull four, that means you've cast a possibly battle winning spell and gained approximately 35 mana (if Summon Horde costs you 45 mana). If you can cull six, add 40 mana to that. If it's an easy battle and you can cull eight skeletons, add another forty, for a total of about 115 mana, on top of winning the battle.
That's just crazy. Cull the weak needs to not work on summoned units. Deathlash already only works on trained units, so it should be possible to do something similar with Cull the weak.
And I assume that the custmer feedback that you say is useless is that which YOU disagree with. No you don't have to answer that because we know it to be true by you statements.
When you were against the impale/cleave idea did you actully play with it. See it in action or did you base your original impressions on what you were told or read? Well it does play well in the game however Maul does not. And the reason I know this it because I played with it in the game (it is just too powerful.) People who say the game is two easy are saying this because they have played many games and the outcome is the same. IT is too easy. And if the devs ignore this feedback they could loose some customers like they did wihen they put out the WOM.
Now you are right DEVS need to watch out which customer suggestions they use and which they don't because some suggestions may not be good for the over all game. But they should not ignore suggestions out right just becasue.
So what your saying is that you have toi gimp the game to make it challanging? HELLO!!!! doen't this tell you that there is something wrong here that needs attention?
lol no you just need to rebuild the army and develop another tactic to take out the bear. Hell I love these types of senarios escpecially if my towns are in danger. Unfortunatly the game does not have enough of this. I do think the Maul is a bit too OP. It should be powerfull but I would limit how many attacks it can do if the creature does not miss (I'd say it shoulds get 3 attacks plus one more per level of the creature so a High level creature with maul should be deadly while a bear cub should not be so much)
During my 2nd game recently +1 year later.. I handicapped myself a bit.. by not getting "beast lord" (so powerful to get easy maulers or units early on) and went basic battle mage and this guy/asshole named resoln is kicking my ass..
He's using 2 army's to attack me from 2 different sides and I only got 2 cities + I mean he actual sent! a 2nd army to claim a outpost and then he is using the window "transport" spell in to transport armies for the 2nd one.. I've never seen AI like this.. so either I'm really unlucky or what a surprise.. I only got 1 army and 2 cities...
Holy mega-hell whoever wrote the scripts for the AI.. this well, it's impressive
Quoting Chaosti, reply 17 The game is too easy. Mainly because there are a lot of utterly overpowered abilities which exist in this game. A player can easily take advantage of them, but the AI cannot. And the AI seems to run around like a headless chicken most of the game, rarely attacking the player. I'm hoping for more balancing and AI changes, and knowing stardock, they'll get around to it... eventually (with additional expansions and such probably). As it is, I'm just playing this game for now, but as soon as Rome 2: Total War and Age of Wonders 3 come out (I think they're August and October 2013?) this game is probably off my PC permanently, unless there are some massive AI and balancing changes. It's was fun figuring out the game and how to play it, but once you do, there's no challenge to it whatsoever, which makes it boring. This is playing the game without ever loading saves (I now have autosaves turned off due to its bugs). If I lose a battle, I lose it, not that I ever lose battles anymore (I did the first few playthroughs, but it's easy to figure out how strong/weak the enemy is after getting some experience in the game).
I would like to say this is no longer the case.. in my recent experience so far.. the AI has definitely been massively over-hauled
Also I've played AOE3 too but their AI is semi-weak.. it needs some toughen'ing up And don't get me started on AOE2's ai.. which if I'm being honest is non-existant.. what they've done here with "LH:FE" is so impressive.. (so far) I don't think anyone's done anything better before..?? maybe thats why the game crashes processing those attack scripts? (seems graphical but I dunno?) but I don't think even civ has. that. no scratch that.. the AI of civ2 was "not bad" I think..
But in terms of AI programming so far.. i'm all thumbs
I still have my saves from a year ago.. if you really want e'm?
But I think yah, know with the game having been updated once or twice since then.. they may not work.. well let me know if you want e'm?
Let me be perfectly clear.. MAUL last year was frickin' awesome if you played the game and you got to watch maul just kill everything in it's path.. it's awesome! But the point was.. maul made it too easy.. I don't even know if "maul" is in the latest 1.7b patch..? but I just assumed it was..? and chose to start playing this game again with more challenge in mind for myself
hmm.. think I've been beaten.. which means I'll have to go back 40 to even my full 83 moves or whatever? and start all over.. so that's impressive AI.. cause that's never happened to me before
What I've noticed and what's kicking my ass is all the "archers" in the game I see now.. the AI brings in 6-8 units of archers.. aka he's not f@#^@#^ around
Maybe Maul needs a nerf. Although it is a key part of Yithril's unique unit/strategy I think?
The other animal to tame of course is the Great Wolf - the howl ability raises every individuals attack by 1 per level. So a level 10 hero gets +10 attack. Having the wolf with an army of archers is....... well you can imagine.
I think Maul plays better with a slight nerf, parrottmath has made one here in his mod collection:

Hmm hadn't thought of that one, nasty.
Quoting Redaxe,
nasty is an understatement - it literally lets you wipe the floor of the entire battleground with no difficulty whatsoever. Give it a try and see for yourself.
