I personally dislike any and all games having to do with zombies, and I'm not big on survival titles, either. But this turn-based strategy is a winner.
Basically, it puts you in charge of five survivors of a zombie apocalypse, trying to survive in a city until they can get a radio and frequency for a military pickup, or scrounge enough parts to build an escape vehicle. Gameplay involves the most elegant use of a text-based frame I've yet seen, where you can click to change the dozens of actions in general and detail that every member of your squad can do, before launching the next hour-long turn. A click lets you draw a unit across town, or view the skills it's best in, etc. Combat only shows as a result. This isn't a game about fighting, but about getting the hell of a procedurally designed Dodge.
I suspect the developers got their ideas for relationships from Jagged Alliance. Your team members, randomly designed from a host of professions, skills, characteristics, and prejudices, develop likes and dislikes with each other that can affect performance, and in extreme cases lead to violence. Thee are ways to work around these problems--planted rumors, "feasts" that raise everybody's morale, successful team activities that make all participants feel slightly better about one another--but you'd be a fool to disregard them. And it does give a real sense of life, of characters moving beyond your control, when one person during rest hours convinces another to get drunk together, or accuses another of poisoning a feast they're making for the team.
A cute little game but I really don't like that I can't decide who equips what. Also I feel like you can avoid much of the game if you just have your members doing different tasks. They only interact (beyond your control) when doing the same tasks, it seems. I like how the game plays out, and its random world generation feels very solid. If you're a fan of zombie games that focus on survival, try out the demo on their site.
Thing is, you need to send some people into tasks as teams, and then you may end up having to balance relationships against skill sets. Plus, it's easier to do certain things together (like hold a feast). But I'd also like some control over who gets what weapon.
I forgot to mention that it's very easy to do extremely simple mods, adding survivors of your own (photos plus ratings you supply), and locations, then deciding whether they'll appear randomly in new games, or all the time.
