The popular PC space strategy game, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion from Ironclad Games and Stardock Entertainment, will be getting its first downloadable content on June 5th. "Forbidden Worlds" adds new planet types, planet specialization, technologies, planetary bonuses and additional Steam achievements all for $4.99.
The war between the loyalists and the rebels within the TEC, Advent and Vasari continues within the depths of Trader Space. Yet, this sector of the galaxy has far more worlds and history than any of the factions are aware. The need to survive forces each to expand into the unknown, discovering worlds of hazard, wealth, risk, and mystery. Most ominously, the Trader factions have been loathe to expand to these worlds due to the dark myths that surround them.
Feature List:
The Forbidden Worlds DLC will be available direct, as well as on Steam, GameStop, GamersGate and GameFly.

Will the icons and pictures of the original planet types be updated or left as is?
Also, is the polar pinching a consequence of increasing the texture resolution or is that going to change?
Also, noticed with the terran that the planetary lights are not working properly...

Having trouble getting a good picture to show here but there's a link to it above....

Frequent Meteorites is a very old planet bonus.
Habitable Caverns and Polluted Environment(I believe not too sure on this one) we've seen before. I have never seen something like Feudal Society before until this DLC was annouced.
$5 DLC ... does this make it so people without DLC can't play with those who have it? imho, this is a souped up mod that goes the next step of Solar Sins, Distant Stars and others by having more code applied. Good stuff for modders. 7DS tried for custom ocean/forest/etc... worlds, but at least the code in rebellion will permit the variety we wanted.
so a mod... cool.
Interesting.
I am so so so so excited for this...
I have felt for a while that the Explore part of the 4X in Sins was a bit lacking, and this DLC not only addresses but completely overhauls that system... Thank you, Yarlen and Stardock and Ironclad too if they are not too busy creating their new game.
I will most certainly purchase this.
To many more Sins Rebellion DLC packs!
And to HouseRalan,
How can you be unhappy? Sins Rebellion is getting more content! If it is similar to or inspired by a mod, who cares? And I'm sure that the designers did not simply copy and paste the ideas and planets from mods into the game - they are enhancing and putting their own spin on it. And evidently they are tying it into Sins lore. All of this sounds great to me.
Generally, when they've said N new techs in the past they mean literally N. Think 15 divided by 3 factions equals 5 new techs per faction from what I can gather given the size of the DLC.
Semaz/Ralan is never happy about anything. I think he is destined to complain until Sins either becomes 7DS or they answer of all his modding questions.
I'm excited about this. I want to know what that black planet is.
I SHALL MAKE IT MY HOMEWORLD.
(unless it turns out it's some sort of horrible death planet)
Shut up and take my money!
It is very likely that it is a simple Barren world..
Those are examples of the new planet bonuses, yes.
Frequent Meteorites has been there since the original Sins' released. None of the DLC content is unlocked in the beta update.
What i am trying to say, if both these things concern income rates, they kinda cancel each other, so you have only culture vs production left. And i think nobody in his right mind is going to choose culture. If you however include some research improvements to that social path, it may be actually worth considering over the industrial one.
Nope.
We haven't made any decisions about more DLC, this is simply the first. Forbidden Worlds is not on par with either Entrenchment or Diplomacy and shouldn't be compared to them.
Both Entrenchment and Diplomacy worked like mods, in terms of how the game loaded them, loaded the base Sins stuff, then Ent, then Diplo.
Will Sins one day get Steam Workshop love? (lots of good mods in mod section and moddb)
So... the first of more to come? (:
*Man tears*
Speaking as a modder, I'm not entirely sure that's a good move.
There's no plans for Steam Workshop right now. At this point, I probably wouldn't count on it.
@Yarlen> Thanks for answering my questions.
Thanks for the quick response as always Yarlen.
I only say this is it gives more ways for people to view what modders can do with Sins. People may see Sins and go I don't care for it. But they may see mod x and say "screw it I'm buying it just for mod x." (Civ 5 + Communitas = heaven well for me)
More options for modders to show their stuff the better I'd say in my book. (not saying workshop be the only way and even if they have this option its still optional)
Now I will end my rant and also ready to preorder damn it!
