With 1 Stables it will take 15 seasons to get enough to form a cavalry unit with just 3 horses.
Combined with bad road building and less horse resources movement will be severely restricted.
This will seriously slow down the game and make it boring. The game already suffers from excessive unrest.
Yes. Looks like horses have gone frtoo having too many to having too few
There is a difference between comments and critics. Also, if I complain about the high temperature and my host turns on conditioned air at the highest setting effectively freezing me, am I forbidden from complaining just because I already complained once?
I don't understand some of the people who post here. It seems like any time something becomes slightly more than situationally useful, they demand it be nerfed to the ground. OTOH, uninteresting or underpowered mechanics are praised for being balanced. *shrug*
I think horse and warg resources are spread around the map much better than previous. I'm finding I have to prioritise claiming them as opposed to .85 and earlier, when I took it for granted I'd have enough. The spawn rate seems about right, cavalry are occupying a much smaller percentage of my army, and filling my sovereigns army out with all mounted troops feels like an accomplishment. Trading extra wargs to get the last few from my next enemy makes it even sweeter.
I like it the way it is.
yeah, more non-horse/warg units in the army is a good thing.
The new mount mechanics are much appreciated. Leave it as is for now.
A horse shortage could create interesting ways to overcome it. For example there could be a horse-lord faction that gets +1 horses/turn. This would give them an all-horse army if they wanted it and opportunities for trading with other players.
Or there could be quests with the reward of a number of horses (eg 30), or a new horse resource, at the end of it.
Or there could be a research option to increase horse numbers, or a building for the same thing. Or a magic spell ...
They are fine as of .87
It means you won't pimp out all your units next season with mounts, nor will you have enough to give them to everyone. In time you will get to the point where you can afford to have mounted troops on 3 or more heroes.
And there is always trading. Just sayin'
Unlike Civ5, the AI will always trade you a resource, EVEN IF YOU TAKE EVERY BIT OF IT, as long as you offer him an exchange he finds fair. So there's no "I won't give you my horses so that you can surpass me in military power". Which sort of should be looked at.
+1. Great idea for a faction or sovereign trait; add Warg Lord to that, or combine them to give a bonus to both resources.
From what I've seen, they are much more balanced in 0.87 now.
Not every troop and their dog should think they need to be mounted.
Horses and Wargs are now a commodity based upon scarcity and that is awesome!
Awesome ideas!!!
I would also like to add that, now with Horses and Wargs being more scarce than before, this opens up the door for fantastic mounts! Being able to find a Unicorn Grove or a Griffin's Roost and have them outpost scarcer amounts of mounts relative to horses or wargs, but enough to that the player can fully explore having the new tech "Fantastic Mounts", being researchable right after 'Warg Riders'.
Unicorns should have the ability Teleport: 5 turn cooldown, Unit is able to teleport anywhere on the tactical map.
Griffins should be flying units, able to traverse strategic terrains that would otherwise inhibit movement.
I welcome other suggestions for fantastic mounts....
I like how it is. Please leave it.
But add more mounts, please!
Yeah, I like the new system the way it is, horses and wargs are so much more balanced. I can actually build infantry without feeling like I'm committing a grave tactical error! This is good.
This idea is great! I would love to be able to get fantastical mounts, it would really lead to even more troop diversity and choices to make.
Would you play without necklaces or boots?
Mounts are just another upgrade slot. You're asking the devs to make it useless or leave it empty and that is a bad thing for the game.
Mounts don't have to be balanced against infantry because mounted troops are an upgrade to infantry not something meant to be in parallel.
Mounts should be balanced between eachother wargs beeing just as useful as horses (or a bit more since they require more research). I hope at some point we'll have other mounts too (spiders, panthers, etc.) to make it more interesting.
Don't they already have a spider mount? Yeah they do already have one. you can mount a ravenous harriden. Not sure how to get one in game without modding at the moment, but you can get one.
I think Ceresa's faction cen get those spider mounts and I think there's also a lizard mount summoned by an item or quest. Anyway, I hope to get more mounts to make the slot more interesting.
The new amounts are great. You have to consciously decide when/where you want cavalry, as it should be. No longer can you have horse mounted troops everywhere. They are a powerful complement to your army rather than your entire army.
I don't mind the fact it's harder to field a mounted army but I don't like the new bonuses.
The bonuses are so small they don't matter beyond early game. The only bonus that still has some value mid to late game is movement speed and horses have bigger movement speed (making wargs useless).
A summon mount spell would be cool, put one in life and death spell books, to give you a death steed and a giant toad/turtle/unicorn/bear/etc..., or something like that.
I like the mount scarcity changes. Still think there's work to be done on balancing their respective skills/benefits. Horses are available before Wargs, and Horses are still generally better than Wargs if you have them available to you. As another person (forget who, sorry) mentioned in the Horse/Warg balance thread the Knockdown % on mounts really shouldn't be 100%.
I think this is because of the animations that need to be created to make this look correct.
I just thought I'd say that I find the new numbers to be much better. Wargs do need some kind of bonus, though - or they should just go back to being mutually exclusive again, which I was just fine with.
Mutually exclusive always made sense to me.
The new numbers are good. My practical experience is that in my 1 long game since 0.87 came out, I have many, many spare horses. I suspect I may play other games where I see less horse sites, and have a practical limit on cav, and I will love that.
