I am not sure where to post this , so if its in the wrong place hopefully a Mod will put it where it needs to be , then let me know where it was put
I have the adin18_Double Weather Calender Gadget version 1 , it keeps forgetting my Zip Code , every or almost every day it has a pop-up that says the Zip Code is not valid , then it has some strange Zip Code , and you have to re-enter your correct Zip Code , its like it forgets what it was or does not save it properly , it does this randomly , sometimes several times in 1 day
Any idea's how i can remedy this ? Thanks Jim
Well , its doing the Zip Code thing again , so i am guessing what triggers this is when the PC is restarted , since it worked perfect until it was restarted , i just had to re-instal(setup) it again , and again , this is on a Win XP SP3 PC
EDIT:
I just downloaded the "5 Day Forecast Weather Gadget" , i am hoping this one does not have the same bug , though i do wish this one was large as the other one , its pretty small and harder to read , i might have to try another one since there is no option to change the size , will keep you informed
OK the 5 day weather gadget is also doing the same thing with the "This doesn't appear to be a valid Zip Code , Please Try Again" error , its dont it about 10 times in the last 3 minutes
Going to try another one
Just set up the Weather F-C Gadget , i will report back if it does it too , hopefully not , but what could be causing this ?? , since this last time i did not restart the PC , it just was sitting (screensaver slideshow on) , when i went to get online , i looked and it had the error , so i re-typed the zip code , and within about 20 seconds , it did it again , then while i was typing my post here i looked and it had about 4 of them over top each other asking for the correct zip code , this is really strange !!
Well the F-C Gadget is now doing the Zip Code error !!!
Is there something i am missing ??? , would a Wireless Connection have anything to do with it ?? (signal fading occasionally ??) but then , i cant figure out why every one is giving the same error within a few days of setup , but on my Laptop (also Wireless) has not had any issues at all , so that kind of blows the Wireless theory i guess !
All i want is a simple Desktop function so i can see the local weather for the week , i have the Weather Channel Desktop App , but its huge , so i have to have it minimized if i want to access anything else on my desktop and i cant see my background when its on , i really like the functionality of these little ones , but this Zip Code error is driving me nuts .....it just did it again !..... , that is 3 times since i started typing this
Any Answers , ideas ,guesses ????
Just something else i noticed , when the error came up i clicked "Close" on each pop-up (they were stacked over each other) so they were all gone , then when it came up again for the zip (right after i closed the last one), i typed in the zip code because if i just click ok or cancel like i had, it just keeps popping up , so i added my zip again (all this time it is showing my location , so it recognizes the zip as its showing my city the entire time , but its not remembering again, or so the error says) and after i added my zip the same box came up and i had to enter it again , then the same again , basically for every time it popped up with the error i have to enter the zip or it will continue to pop up , just a added WTF to add to this confusion !
I am currently testing these on XP HP SP3. So far they have run for 2 hours and restarted fine after multiple reboots. You may want to give them a try also. I'll post here if they also lose the location setting.

https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/desktop_gadgets/450/ (multiple locations) A very, very good gadget.
I have been getting the same results as you and RnD with the others.
Update: All three gadgets ran overnight and after a reboot this morning, Cool Weather errored, the other two are still fine.
It supposed to work fine with XP, strange... Have you seen the "Preferences"* of this gadget and checked the box "Run automatically when Windows start"?
*Right click on the small gadget icon, at the tray, next to date, in the bottom right area of your monitor.
Strange, I just saw all the above posts...The last 2-3 years I didn't have any problem with the Weather Gadgets and I never hear any complain about their functionality.
This an Internet connection problem, 99% , sorry I can't think any other solution for your computer issue.
Only issue with Internet Connection being the problem (i had thought so as well at first), is both my PC's are on the same Wireless Connection , and only the one with XP does it , my laptop with Vista 64 has not had one issue yet ! , on a side note , it has not done it in 2 days (basically since my last post , so yesterday and today)
Update:
Of the 3 I have been testing on XP;
Cool Weather gave the zipcode error several times today.
Weatherlab gave a message on the gadget itself that the "The internet connection is missing" (it isn't) and had to be manually refreshed to reconnect to the server.
July Weather gave no error but at 7:00PM was still showing the temps from this morning. It also needed to be manually refreshed to show current temps.
I'm guessing when they refresh/update themselves that the server(s) don't respond in the same ways they did when the scripts were written.
It isn't any one gadget maker with non-working weather on XP. It appears that previously working gadgets just do not work anymore.
At no time during my tests did I lose my internet connection but obviously, there is some sort of communication breakdown.
Damn shame too, since there are still a lot of XP users out there, and my favorite DX skinner has truckloads of weather gadgets that can't be used on XP any more
At least the others will load, mine crash instantly on XP. I'll check with sViz.
For some days now my weather gadgets (testing 3 of them) are working fine at my wife's laptop with XP, no problem at all... it is really strange to read that people have problems with weather gadgets and XP....
OK mine did it again this morning so it lasted 3 days without a error , BUT , i decided to write down , since it always has something there that is NOT my zip code(i dont know if this will help or not) the zip code/text it shows in the area where you enter your zip code , it says UKXX0929 i dont know if that has any significance or not but i figured i would let you know to see if that might narrow down the issue
Again my Laptop with Vista 64 has not had any issues at all with the original one i first posted about on my XP PC , were 4 so far have had issues on my PC with XP Home 32 SP3
Hi Jim,
What you write for your location? London. UK or Paris, France for example or just numbers?
UKXX0929 is a city location for Hastings, United Kingdom
I understand you all want to get to the bottom of it...I think it's the internutz connection. Since you have Winstep, why not use the weather module? Yeah, yeah. You want Nikos' to work...but I'd bet it's a server thing at the weather services thing.
Are you nutz? lol..jk.
Winstep is good, but it ain't DX. But then, I may soon give up DX, since I now skin Winstep.
That is what it showed in the area where MY zip code should go when it gives the error that this appears not to be a valid zip code , my Zip Code is 83672 (USA) , and that is what i put in that area , 83672 , nothing else
That is why i posted that , because i think the App is getting confused as to where it is , but the App shows my city (Weiser, Idaho) the entire time , and the temps , that is why this is annoying , if it was blank i would say it would be a connection issue , but it shows the current temp and the correct location , it just gives the zip code error , should i try entering the CITY/STATE instead of just the zip code ?
83672 is good for your city, try Weiser, ID if you want... but I guess this is not the problem.
When you get an error you should accept the code that exist there by default (UKXX0929) and after you can change it back to your city (83672).
I have no idea why this is happening only with Windows XP and not with Vista or Seven... sorry Jim.
try USID0271 , this would be the correct weather.com id.
When i leave that # and click OK , it just pops up with the same error again , right away , i have to enter MY Zip in order for it not to continue to pop up
I will try entering my city Weiser, Idaho and see if it still does it , and check back with results !
Yes, that is the real puzzle to this, they all work fine with any other OS but fail on XP. The ones I linked to except for Cool Weather don't give a zip code error, they just lose connection with the servers.
OK today is the first it has done it since the 13th , i was actually typing on another forum(dirtbike forum) when i heard the windows error ding , i finished my post , closed the page and there was the error , i re-entered my city name/state and it came right back up with the error , it did this 3 times within 1 minute till i entered the Zip Code , then it was fine again , this is still on the 5 day gadget , my Laptop has yet to give a error of any kind with the original gadget (III) , any idea's yet ??
For both my XP rig, and my wife's 7 rig I use Yo Window. It has a lot of good features including a live sky view and a screensaver with weather.
Give it a try. http://yowindow.com/ It's accurate, up to date, easy to set up and fun to use.
(and it remembers where I live)
The only issue is , what i wanted was a Weather Gadget that was small and not required to open anything , one that i can just glance at , these Gadgets are perfect for that , with the exception that they all keep giving the same error on the same machine , as i said , my laptop with Vista 64 works perfect
Hi Jim, it may be a Firewall issue, that doesn't allow weather updates from the internet, exclude this gadget from your XP Firewall, just an idea...
