Was just on GoG and they have Galactic Civ 1 for sale. Wow cant believe its been that long that they can now have it. Doesnt look like they had to fix anything, like they do on some games, and there are a few xtra features. By them selling it does it take away from SD then or do they have to get permission first?
I know many of their games are so old they are considered abandon ware or something like that. Just thought id see what SD's take is on it and anybody elses.
I noticed this too. I don't think the GOG.com version is any different from the version you get from stardock. I'm not sure though since I haven't re-bought the game to check.I believe that GOG.com has to get permission and rights to sell games. They may cater to old old games, but it doesn't mean they use abandonware policies. Technically, abandonware is illegal (if I recall correctly), so if GOG.com grabbed what ever titles they wanted, patched them, and sold them - they could be sued by the actual owners.
Given that Stardock advertised this on their own twitter- I think they got permission.
