I'm more and more impressed with all the things you've improved over FE. If FE had 20 things wrong with it, you've nailed like 18 of them. Great work across the board!
I have to agree with the original poster. This game is a solid 8 as it stands now. Certainly lightyears ahead of that 4X imposter StarDrive that was released a while ago. There is nothing in LH that is a game breaker for me. Of course there are areas that I would like to see improved like diplomacy and such but nothing game ending. Congrats to Stardock and team.
Frog, I thought the original plan was to release Fallen Enchantress and two expansions, one provided free to early adopters and the next being a paid-by-all expansion. Has that changed?
I've been pretty vocal about my love for this version of Elemental. It's really good. I'd hate to think there won't be more....
Either way, you've won me back.
4X imposter? It's actually pretty damn good if you ask me. The core game, that is. Maybe buggy, but very good.
I haven't played Stardrive but it looked good to me. Just haven't had a chance to play it.
I don't think there was ever a plan to release 2 expansion to Fallen Enchantress.
The plan was to release 2 expansions for Elemental itself. Fallen Enchantress being the first and Legendary Heroes the second. But since FE got so big, it ended up as its own stand alone entry with LH being an expansion on that.
The next thing on our list would be something pretty major. Ironically, the biggest problem we're having is # of developers. Cari becoming a stay at home mom (she was our lead developer) is a major setback for us. We're hiring!
What kind of experience do you need to be a developer?
Depends on the position. You need to be pretty proficient in C++.
Was just curious, I am not planning on becoming a developer haha. I am a teacher and I love it.
Major, as in, major gameplay changes or another entry in the series?
I think LH will sell well. The reviews will be good, so I think people will pick it up. I wish had programming experience. It looks like a good time to be at Stardock. Alas, I'm a firefighter/paramedic, so unless you need emergency medical services, I'm of no help.
Do you already have ideas floating around for the possibility of another Elemental entry? I can keep a secret
It all depends on how well this game does. As long as people want us making fantasy strategy games, we aim to provide them.
So far, we've made Elemental: War of Magic - which was a commercial success but a critical failure. Then we made Elemental: Fallen Enchantress which did well and was generally well liked but didn't sell as well as WOM (since WOM had gotten a lot of pre-release coverage). Now we have Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes.
The next game would be like Fallen Enchantress. A new entry for the game universe that shares some basic design elements but goes down a new path.
I'd like to see more diplomatic and a LOT more faction differentiation (both visually and mechanically). I'd also like to see the magic system revisited right from the start. But like I said, that's more of a "in the future" thing.
Legendary Heroes is likely to be *THE* last word on Fallen Enchantress with future enhancements via free updates funded by DLC additions. So LH will continue to evolve but it's not like one day there will be an update where there's a new magic system.
I for one would like to see a continuation of this series and fantasy strategy that you've done here. I've spent some time with this system and see quite a bit that can be done with the system currently that it would be a shame, if this were to be the last in the series. I think you have done a great job (at least for me) the bordom in the first 15 turns of a 4x strategy game (it's not just end turn end turn end turn, there is some adventure to it).
Honestly, that's what I'd like to see for your next entry, too. Faction differentiation and diplomacy overhaul would make an absolute classic. God, I hope you guys do that....
Either way, thank you for sticking with it. You guys are my favorite developer studio. I've spent more time with your games than any other developer, ever.
Seconded! I've been playing Stardock games since their OS/2 days. And this one is really fun. Since .90 was released I've been playing the campaign, and it's far better than the FE campaign. Really enjoying it!
