I've created a custom faction and a character I wish to remove. I do that by deleting the proper files from MyGames/Legendary Heroes/units and /races. Every time I go in-game, the custom faction is back. I then check the MyGames folder and the files I've just deleted have reappeared and are present again.
Are the factions cloud saved? If so we really need an in game way to delete that shit.
You have to delete them from the New Game menu, it only gives the option to delete on the custom factions. You will see the 8 Basic factions plus any you have added, just highlight the faction you wish to delete and you should see some buttons lightup in the bottom middle saying Edit or Delete, or something along those lines.
Edit: I am sorry they seem to have changed this from .50 to .51, to stop a faction from showing up in your game in .51 go to the New Game screen and Right-click the Leader you want to delete, a Prompt will pop-up asking if you are sure, click yes. Boom Leader gone, faction can't show up. Note: You can't delete the original 8.
Double-Edit: If nothing was changed and I was hallucinating a Delete and Edit button, then I apologize I was probably just high, still Right-Click Delete does the trick nicely.
Was also wondering how i could delete some of them.
Thanks for the answer.
Thanks!
How am I not seeing this...I'm so confused...
Right click on the faction you want to delete. You should get a prompt asking if you want to delete it.
That doesn't delete the faction, it only deletes the leader you created for the faction.
Yes. I noted this too. The faction still remains, but the leader is at least deleted.
Yeah, I agree. Before steam you could just delete them in mydocuments/games folder but with steam, they just get added again by steam cloud.
There really has to be in game interface to see, edit and delete existing factions, custom or other. Currently I can't edit faction I have created outside text editor, I can only make new faction and that's it.
If one of the games main feature is that the game expands as you create and play new factions that AI can later use, there really should be more options and tools to manage said factions. Also, some of the things that are available in faction text files should be available for in game faction creation tool, like ability to set AI personalities and ability to make 'cheat' factions that have number of traits above their limit (usually for making powerful AI factions).
This really needs devs attention before the game leaves beta or there will be lots of threads of the type 'I made custom faction, how do I remove it' since steam cloud makes sure you can't delete the game files unless you turn off steam cloud.
I'd strongly suggest turning off cloud save. (that can be done in Steam)
I guess I can turn it off and turn it on to manually delete factions. For the most part, I only use a created faction once, with few exceptions. And I like the cloud saving as I switch from desktop to laptop pretty much every day.
That shouldn't be the solution.
I for one actually don't like it when the AI takes control of a custom faction/leader that I've created in the past.
There are times when I goof around with a design or try something new. When I play a subsequent game, I don't want to have the AI messed up and ruining my game all because they have decided to pick your previous goof.
IMO, there should be a check screen in the menu where you can pre select which leaders and factions are to be made available for the AI's use. Doing that also opens up possbilities for the steam cloud (as much as I hate steam) because you then can gain access to all sorts of leaders and factions that other players have made public, sifting through the data and deciding which leaders and factions you want your AI to be able to choose from.
Until this is implemented, everytime I've tinkered with a leader or faction, when I am done with it, I delete it, because I don't want the AI to become screwed up because of decisions that I have made in a previous game.
This entire arguement can be made for the current AI factions as well. If I play a default leader and create my own units. There is NO way I want the AI to also utilize those units in a subsequent game, espcecially if I've deisgned those units to operate under specific conditions whereas the AI will not be aware of those conditions and will blindly use the units out of context.
Granted I can understand that the AI should be getting better off of the units that you are creating. All that I am saying is that the player should have the ability AHEAD of time to select which units in addition to the default units the AI has access to. Again, the steam cloud could be utilized here to further the experiance.
The control mechanism must first be made though.
I looked into it myself and there's no way to delete a custom faction. You can overwrite it by creating a new one and using the same name, but not actually delete one.
I've just tested this, and you can delete custom factions, by first disabling the cloud save mechanic, then manually deleting them from your MyGames folder. You can also delete custom units and leaders in the same manner.
A bit too much aggravation, imo, but it gets the job done. As I only play with custom factions and leaders, I end up with several that don't work out as intended.
Well, at least we have a way to do it, even if it's a huge pain in the ass and we have been begging for a simple in game solution to this for fucking ever.
I must agree, this is something I greatly disliked in FE, and had hopes of seeing fixed for LH.
Until I read this thread, I had no idea you could delete custom leaders by right clicking, so that is a start, at least.
You can't put quality-of-life UI enhancements as bullets points on a store page, so they get a lot less attention. That seems to be why baffling UI decisions seem to still exist in this game.
I was going to remark that I've had no issues with this, but then I remembered I disabled cloud saving since I only use 1 computer to play and a bad experience with loading from the cloud instead of a local save and losing a ton of progress as a result.
Well, bugger.
Just started up Steam, then started LH, to discover that all of the factions I'd deleted have been added back.
This needs fixing.
Correction. Not all of the earlier created factions returned, only those with different names. However, sovereigns with the same name did reappear.
Yep true, but at least now our bastard children will not be showing up randomly in our games unless we want them to, and yes I am referring to custom factions, not actual children.
Sorta on topic another thing that has annoyed me which I'm sure my fellow custom leader/factioners have encountered, I can't seem to save a biography for the life of me. It always reverts to the same corny default custom bio. It's too bad because I wrote a few really rich ones. Nor can I set a faction background. It always goes to the race's default background (this is basically only for the new game menu and the diplomacy screen, I'm not referring to the medallion)
Also for any Newcomers I've updated my original post in this thread with the exact instructions to follow, with a brief message explaining why my previous instructions might not have been entirely accurate.
I think changing anything in the faction design resets its profile. Try writing it as a last thing and then save faction immediately.
I thought that might be the case as well but I tried exactly that and it still sets it to the default bio, so I'm just gonna hold off on penning wonderful descriptive biographies until Stardock takes a look at it.
Have you checked the character details? From what I can tell, in FE, custom descriptions show up in the details once you start to play, but not in the opening narration. It probably works the same in LH.
