I'm going to say this from the beginning to make myself very clear. If you are a Steam fanboy, which is the same as a Steam supporter, then kindly shut the hell up and don't comment on how wonderful Steam works, don't give me platitudes like "I've been using Steam for several years and I have never had a problem with it". You're a liar if you say something like that. I hope that is blunt enough for all who read this. If you don't like it, shut the hell up.
In case one didn't get the message by now. I'm pissed off with Steam being chosen to distribute LH. It is a dumb ass idea any way you look at it. I've never had a problem with a game if it was downloaded from Stardock. From Steam, that is a different animal. I just started playing LH a couple of days ago and having alot of fun with it. Yesterday, I had a steam error, saying I've never played Steam on this computer, though I had just the day before. Eventually, the damn thing let me connect and play LH. Today, the damn thing again said I've never played LH on this computer. And now I really can't play it. Maybe I'll be able to again once Steam gives me permission. I have a brand new computer, just been built, and I have no problems with anything but Steam. Last year when Xcom came out I foolishly bought it for PC, which required Steam. I never could play Xcom. I had an older computer then, but never had a problem playing any games unless they were Steam. Guess what I did? I returned Xcom for PC and bought it on PS3. It worked right out of the box.
STEAM will be the death of PC games. Why the hell would I want to spend time with a screwed up Steam client to play a video game when I can simply purchase a PS3 title. I know LH won't be offered on the PS3, so I guess I won't be playing it unless Steam is dropped or the Steam gods allow me to play again.
Rant off, for now.
Oh dear god. Really?
In before the haters and the arguments. Or the possible/probable thread lock.
My suggestion is to go into C:\Users\YOURNAME\Desktop\Steam\steamapps\common\FE Legendary Heroes make a shortcut of LegendaryHeroes.exe, its the one thats an application, and has the icon. This will allow you to launch the game from your desktop without ever starting steam. Also I've never had an issue with Steam, nor know anyone whom has.
Thanks for the tip. I share the sentiments about Steam. Hate it, is the short version. Can't stand that it has to run even playing games.
Wouldn't be so bad if I had to just deal with it to download and forget it.. but no it's setup that way at the start at least.
Probably because Steam reaches a huge audience that no other platform comes near to, makes perfect business sense to put it on there.
When it updates (which is sometimes considerably behind schedule ) it autoupdates. So a player who has Steam running won't have to bother downloading an update manually.
Personally I have no problems with manual updates, and have done so on tons of mods for various games. But it does make the procedure less annoying for some folks.
Well, I'm not a liar, and I don't appreciate you telling a bunch of people you don't even know to "shut the hell up". I have never had any problems with Steam. I'm sorry if you don't want to hear that. I am also sorry you have problems with it. You will be missing out on a great game with Legendary Heroes.
Just please don't come on here and tell a group of people to "shut the hell up".
Putting LH on Steam? Yes.
Making Steam mandatory to play LH, no matter where it was bought? NO!
No need to get bent out of shape. there's a simple solution.
Vote with your dollars. If you don't like Steam, simply don't purchase games that require it.
If enough people feel the same way you do, Steam will suffer financially.
However, you are currently in the minority, so save you energy for constructively getting your point across.
People have commented on my writing style, but boy, do you take the cake...
Just remember you attract more flies with honey...
than poison? mmm poison
Apparently I'm a liar. I prefer Steam client-wise, but I don't like Valve all that much so I buy from Origin. (Was Impulse, but Gamestop made that boring since it's apparently never going to get any feature upgrades again.)
The two situations I know of where Steam doesn't work are your security software sucks (either by letting something in or causing problems with apps) or your ISP sucks.
In the end, ignoring everything else, there are simply way more people out there who will only buy PC games on Steam than who won't buy it because it is/requires it. If you look back at Brad's posts, you'll see comments that even some of our older titles are selling amazingly well since we put them up on Steam. You'd think that most people who want a game would have it already years on, but apparently Steam is a really big deal to some people.
Anyway, in your particular case it sounds like you're having some problem with the anti-account-theft system Steam uses that requires you to authorize an IP address/machine the first time you log in from there? If you're on a frequently-renewing dynamic IP I can see that being a pain. I'm not sure if there is any opt-out for that, but I'd expect Steam support should be able to help in some fashion.
The great thing about the Internet is that I don't have to listen to giant turds like you telling people what to do.
I like Steam.
I've never had problems with Steam.
I'm glad it's available on Steam.
If Steam works for the majority of people, and not you, maybe Steam isn't the problem.
Because I don't have a PS3, and from all the complaints I've seen, it is more messed up than Steam?
If you are a Steam fanboy, which is the same as a Steam supporter, then kindly shut the hell up and don't comment on how wonderful Steam works, don't give me platitudes like "I've been using Steam for several years and I have never had a problem with it". You're a liar if you say something like that. I hope that is blunt enough for all who read this.
I can honestly say, that to the best of my knowledge, I have never had any significant issues with Steam. Hardly any minor ones either. Instead of saying, "if you disagree with me, your wrong and an evil liar." you could instead say that you have reservations and that you, yourself, have had numerous issues with them. Telling people they are wrong about their own experiences, most of whom you don't know, is a childish rant at best. Your experiences are not king, those statements are simply insulting.
"Yesterday, I had a steam error, saying I've never played Steam on this computer, though I had just the day before. Eventually, the damn thing let me connect and play LH. Ive owned XCom since day one through Steam, never had a steam related issue with it. Same goes for your LH debacle. Have you tried contacting steamsupport to resolve this?
As to your question, I'd guess steam reaches a far larger audience than most other distribution methods and this will help sales. FE is more of a niche game and it needs the help, I love LH and want to see more from this franchise, Steam will help this.
Comments like this are really not helpful, either.
The OP can't play the game and that is a real, valid problem that we'd like to get resolved. If you can't contribute constructively to helping resolve that issue, please refrain from commenting.
LOL this thread is funny, simple put: dont like it dont buy it
: like it buy it
i thought we were here to help LH out right guys
CASE CLOSED
Steam completely jacked up my LH order, so I can definitely sympathize with the OP. Would much rather DL direct from StarDock or even Good Old Games than Steam (PoS).
I've been using Steam since it was in beta. Never had a problem with a single game. MAYBE an update or release doesn't come out at the exact time every now and again but no problems otherwise. The majority of people don't have problems with it, so I'm sorry, but it's your problem if Steam is having issues.
Check for hardware conflicts, check to see if ports need to be forwarded, if it's in your exceptions on firewall etc.
In it's current state Steam is exceptionally stable and versatile. It also completely changed the way we PC gamers can get games and it's here to stay, so I would suggest finding a way to get it running smoothly.
The stability of Steam is entirely dependent on your system. I've never had a problem with it, but I've never had a problem with my PC since I built it in 2007 (updated in 2010). I suppose I can't open Catalyst Control Centre right now... I could fix that if I felt like it. I do know some people who's computer slows down with steam open. Maybe you have 32bit Steam or something. Steam releases are usually very stable. Could be an incompatibility with your CPU (if its a new release) until they touch up the programming. BUT HEY you just built your PC? Could only be the beginning of your problems.
OH right TOPIC: Steam sells games. If it's Steam DRM then I guess it could be a little bit of a problem for some. But as long as your log in details are saved you can load steam in offline mode and still play your games.
It comes down to this: Stardock didn't want to do SDC and Steam releases simultaneously, so one of them had to go, and unfortunately SDC was what went.
That still starts Steam. I do wish there was a way to start the game without starting Steam, sometimes Steam is stupid.
Lol I like your style +1 karma to you. :_)
The point is not whether it can be played offline or without starting Steam. The point is having to install Steam in the first place. Key word HAVING to.
Your writing style is horrible. Please don't post anymore. :_)
Yeah Steam's great. Been using it since they launched, and only had like 5 games. Never had a problem. Never couldn't play any of the games I purchased. Steam went down for a minute or two, a few times this summer, which kicked me out of DayZ but I was able to get right back in, and that was it, ever. My buddies use Steam too, no problems for them either. The problem is definitely on your end. Steam support is great. If you are serious about getting LH working and not just trolling steam then I would contact them. Heck my buddy bought Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead for $25. Then a week later Arma 2 Complete Collection goes on sale for $19, he asks them if he could get a refund to purchase the whole collection instead and they gave it to him. He's happier than a pig in *hit pluggin away at zombies. They didn't have to do that for him, they coulda been like "nope pay an extra 19 if you want the complete collection, even tho you own one of the games already". So give it a shot, maybe things will work out for you too
Had similar problem on my 4th PC (laptop) I wanted to play FE on.
I simply authorized it through menus and through registered email and it worked.
never had a problem with steam. and I play a lot of games on few PCs with offline mode.
