Here's the blog that brings it up:

And here's the video:
Typical teaser announcement: very little info, and a mockup of monsters that's not bad. Remains to be seen how UbiSoft treats this one--whether it will be drained of anything that made the series distinctive, or come up with a modern version of something Caneghem might have created.
I played the M&M games more than any other rpg as a kid... more than Baldur's Gate, more than Ultima.
If they screw this up it will make me very sad.
Different company, of course, so screwing it up is certainly possible. That said, Caneghem's flagship series was getting a bit creaky towards the end, recycling ideas he'd had as far back as M&M II, if not M&M I. Great series, though, and if they do it up right, with decent improvements very much in the spirit of the original, I'm sure it could sell.
Parenthetically, I wish Caneghem hadn't sold New World Computing to 3DO. It was Tripp's company, one of the founders of EA, which meant generous buy-in terms, and a ruthless control of product that was aimed solely at creating a massive cash cow to fund Tripp's other failing titles. There were many spin-offs at the time that were completely unworthy of the M&M series.
SimCity ruined, Heroes of Might and Magic ruined, M&M X ?
I see a pattern here. Triple A games are not for the old school players any more (XCOM a decent exception).
I hold more faith in Kickstarter games like StarDrive (the new Master of Orion II in my opinion), Battle for Chronos (the new Battle Isle), Planetary Annihilation (the new Total Annihilation) and the list goes on.
.. Wasterland 2 (the new Fallout), Project Eternity (then new Baldur's Gate), Torment; Numenara (the new Planescape Torment), Grim Dawn (the new Diablo)...
All I've seen of some old Might & Magic game was the beginning and that must have been released in the 90'ies. It had this old style which I don't want to play.
Dragon Age style would bra great
And so unlike the original M&M series as to raise the question: why not use a title other than M&M, if you're not really doing M&M? Because if it's done as DA, it'll raise a chorus of howls from those who like most aspects of the original.
Yeah, judging from the teaser and what they have said, I'm GLAD they are sticking to the 4 party, turn based system. If I want to play DA, I'll play DA.I want Might and Magic. More of the same. Just like I like my Dynasty Warriors to be more of the same, so I want out of M&M.
And here's some more about it:

Two notable points. First, it will take twenty-five hours to complete. That's actually a lot shorter than several of the original series, but a hell of a lot longer than many modern RPGs, where development is quick so teams can be moved onto new titles. Second, the creative director--whatever that may be--states that it's not a successor to M&M 9, but a tribute to the "series of old." That's a clear signal to those like myself who really disliked the changes made by Tripp's new team in M&M 9 after he removed it from New World Computing's control. We're being told it will be faithful to the older titles. We'll see. At least they know where we're coming from.
Just let the Excel guys in suits do their thing, lol You have a new super-streamlined, accessibilized and hip product in no time. Mash X to finish the game!
I believe the same was said about Fallout 3. Atleast that is what I read on NMA. The end result was....not faithful to the old series.
A fansite of Heroes of Might & Magic that I follow are sure to be overjoyed by these news. As for myself, since I have no history with M&M I don't care either way. Gonna be fun to see how it goes though.
But if you'll really read what I wrote, I simply stated that the development team knows what we oldtime RPGers like to hear. That's it. Nothing I wrote should lead you to believe I've bought into the PR, because I don't do that.
I never wrote (or atleast meant) anything about you buying into the PR. Atleast I can't translate what I wrote to mean that.
I see what you mean. My bad, then! I wish we had more than written language to go by on the Web. It's a great place to start wars, but peace? Not so much.
So far, it looks good. I'm guessing not all skills are in, but there are some nice twists to magic for greater variety. The team seem to have their heads screwed on straight, which is more than I can say about some other RPGs that have appeared that were largely the old game reissued with less new content by far than modders had available before.
And I'm not going to mention Baldur's Gate. No sir!
