GunMetalXeno used it to save his fleet against PJI. Other players in game to vouch for veracity of my statement: RandomMap, Kfear, bscompany.
u tell em!
thats so thoughtful of you mr book. since you've given me a special place in your heart next to other people you have "close" to you, then it's fair to say that I do also have a special place in my heart for you and your troll friends. a place where i will always think of you and the rest of your forum buddy's as a stubborn grown little trolls who have nothing to validate a case and explain in an intelligent matter why z axis should not be used. don not trouble yourself mr_book for I will always remember you as the name calling forum troll who have no more than 3 words to say about the topic and/or issue's that are being said.
So.... you are calling someone other than yourself a name caller in this thread. And you can't find any valid points why not to z-axis in game? I'm thinking you've only been looking at your own posts and ignoring everyone else's.
LOL I ACTUALLY TROLLED SOMEONE INSTEAD OF JUST BEING AN ASSHAT!
Mr. CilverBUG (TM) has made my life on the internet complete.
-Lord Brony
P.S. I'm fairly sure that trolling is permitted on this thread.
I have to admit that I LOLed @ Brony!
Why are you all entertaining cliver?
He's a troll...
He's an asshat...
And he's not even funny....
We might as well write about Moses riding dinosaurs while listening to cassette tapes because that would be more productive than this thread....
not being arrogant and all but who in the world came up with asshat and wtf does asshat means anyway...? talk about name callings, atleast i can z axis my way out and avoid trolls wearing asshats
Asshat means that you're an annoying derp who can't even troll right.
i guess if i cant troll right then i'm considered the annoying troll

No, you're an annoying asshat. Get it right.
even your original 640 x 360 is showing some z axis movements. you can't escape the z axis sphere of influence. you might as well accept it.
LOL there Gunmetal
candido, seems that due to your failpost....
UR GETTIN MUGGED, KID
(By gunmetal! D:)
Thank you for your well written, thoughtful, and informative post Moo Sephei! All of us are better people having read it. I eagerly look forward to your next important contribution to this forum and specifically this thread.
Phase jump inhibitors and starbases are meant to be effective defensive weapons, with Z-axis they become useless piece of crap. (Starbases are already close to it because of bombers)
You guys seem very clever, then tell me how do you counter Z-axis tactics? Nohow? Yeah z-axis shouldn't be banned exploit, we can counter it many ways, or no?..................
My opinion is to ban things that are extremely hard to counter (if even it's possible), these thing ruin the whole game as someone can exploit Z-axis, and the other one can't as this game is meant to be played in a 2D enviromnent, where the 3rd dimension is just for minor extra movement places or just the game to look good.
The best solution would be to allow Z axis placement for structures.
And the counter for Z-axis using fleets are the very thing that all the 'how to not be a noob' posts tell you. Rely on fleets for defence, never trust static defence alone.
Ok I got the idea of fleets are better than static defenses, but making all of them even more useless was not the original idea of this game I think (although there are problems rooting in original game ideas, like I put a gauss defense platform somewhere and it will never be used, ever in the whole game because it can't even orbit the poor planet I wanted to defend it with because my opponent will not be stupid to move in range...ridiculous). Z-axis placement would be a terrible thing in my opinion, as their range is near 2D, everything that has a range acts weird if it's about 3D, their range is not an orb as far as I have noticed, but if they solved it, so they had real 3D range, maybe it would be interesting, but still you couldn't place structures to have an un-escapable effect, still will be more up or more down position along Z-axis where ships are unaffected.
MORE INSIGHT!
Did you know, turrets actually have spherical range?
so z axis isn't really an exploit at all, especially if you build your starbase with z axis!
In my very very important opinion, its ridiculous that anyone can think that z-axis can be fair at all. You're insinuating that a full half of this game is meaningless and that its possible to counter a carrier fleet 10000 miles above you.
If anyone has ever played supreme commander 2 on the xbox, you will understand where claims of "cheating is okay" die. Over the years and through the unwavering dedication of the pro community there has been a set of unwritten rules created.
1 If anyone in the game is a total noob with under 10 games, do not cheat
2 If you are cheating, announce it to the whole lobby first
3 If you feel it is necessary to cheat in secret, prepare to be booted.
Ocean, ships can easily exceed the range of turrets by going above/below them...it is not at all hard to fortify a planet such that no ship could avoid turrets in the 2D plane, but ships could easily avoid them if they just went up or down....this is because ships can go far above or below a planet (farther than they can go in the 2D plane due to the size of the gravity well) and directly above/below a region that turrets can't even be built in (since you can't build structures inside planets)...
Even if turrets could hit all targets, that doesn't change the fact PJIs and mines can be entirely avoided, and there is nothing you can do about that...
Furthermore, even if you do build an SB using the z-axis, and say build that SB above the planet, that leaves the entire 2D plane and everything below the planet well outside the range of the SB...in essence, the SB can cover a significant portion of the 2D plane, but it cannot cover even close to a significant portion of the 3D space around a planet...that TEC/Advent SBs can't shoot directly up or down only makes matters worse...
They don't have to fire DIRECTLY down.
If you position it at the top or bottom of the planet, it will fire at an angle of 50 degrees or something
it's a pity the z-axis was never implemented completely as a mechanic, it is set in space after all
ban players who use tec royalists. There the biggest trolls and cannon spammers.
