=================================The events in this mod occur 10 years after the story of Freelancer. Not all of the Nomads were pulled through the Hyper Gate by Edison's work, in fact those events led to another group being awakened and consequently getting another shot at taking out the colonies. However this group is larger and more experienced than the previous ones awoken by Rheinland, and they're not happy about being separated from their brethren. About 5 Years ago: all the trade lane and jump-gate technology 'inexplicably' failed, however thanks to some breakthroughs by Ageria Technologies, Cruise drive speed has been increased to fill the gap left by the failure of the trade-lanes. They also developed a system to allow a cruise drive to be 'super charged' in close proximity to a star, allowing for long distance jumps between systems. While not as fast as jump-gates it helped to keep the colonies in contact. 4 Years ago: the relative peace shared between the colonies since the nomad infestation started to breakdown. The Kusari Empire annexed GMG and raised the export taxes to Bretonian space, raising the cost of vital H-fuel. Bretonia responded in kind cutting back on the raw resources they were exporting to assist in Kusari rebuilding. Once Liberty de-regulated Ageira Technologies' new cruise drive upgrades and shared the designs throughout the colonies Rheinland was no longer held back, and started flexing their muscle again. Focusing on moving their newly rebuilt fleet to gain a foothold in contested space. 3 Years ago: the first Corsair capital ships were seen. A large Bretonian military convoy carrying supplies and materials were ambushed by a Corsair fleet led by a cruiser of unknown design. The cruiser destroyed the escort gunboats with ease and raided the transport ships. Corsair raids become more frequent and daring requiring the houses to devote more resources into their military and police. 2 Years ago: Secretive 'Nomad Cults' have been on the rise, these Fanatics believe that the Nomads were the messengers of 'God' and that Edison is the Devil Incarnate who tried to stop mankind hearing their message. While they were thought to be a few harmless kooks at first, they have recently become quite aggressive and militant; and their insanity is quickly spreading. Current day: relations between factions has deteriorated even more. With increased military focus due to piracy and border disputes and the political situation quickly turning sour, all-out war could break out at any moment.=================================
Rheinland Valkyries are ready to go.
Some more pics:
Rheinland is taking the stage. Liberty will burn...
New FX for the Liberty Cruiser:
While I would be normally foaming at the mouth over this. The video is private.
We cannot see the awesome.
Fixed it
Been a little sidetracked by this:
I've managed to import the central Liberty Skybox into Sins, there is a problem with some seams at the top and bottom that I need to try to fix, but other than that it works pretty well
Recently made some changes, Crystal will now be H-Fuel.
H-Fuel is required for building Capital Ships and other high end stuff. Regular fighters will generally not require H-Fuel as it is assumed they use a fairly small amount and can be supplied by your 'fleet tax'
Each Player Capital has an initial supply of 0.4 H-Fuel per second. This is to represent the gradual amount your forces can scrounge up.
However, to get a decent supply of H-Fuel you will need to get control of some H-Fuel Extractors.H-Fuel Extractors will only be found orbiting Gas Giants or present in Gas Clouds/Nebulae. Because of this any present H-Fuel Extractors on the map will be highly sought after and many battles will be fought over their control. You will also need to link up an Extractor with a Military Depot in a neighboring grav well if you want to get a steady supply coming in.
Here is some pics of H-Fuel Extractors in an Ice Field:
Now this does mean you may end up in a situation where your enemy has access to a good supply of H-Fuel and you don't.
Of course you can always buy some from the Neural Net Market, but not all is lost if you lack the resources.
While Capital Ships will be powerful they will be using a lot more supply than fighters, and if someone tries to build an all capital fleet they may find themselves getting swarmed by a fighter heavy one.
I think this will be good for overall game play as it will make H-Fuel rich grav wells highly contested areas that can give you an edge if you can hold on to them.
Being that there are no conventional star-bases either means you need to station some ships or a Flagship to protect the area or risk losing it to your enemies.
Ah, The Barrier. How I missed seeing you against the stars.
Star skyboxes are linked to the stars, right? It'll be awesome much, much later on in development if you also recreated the specific stars for each Freelancer system, with the proper skybox linked to them. Would make for amazing Galaxy Forge created maps, recreating all of Sirius Sector like that. Not sure how you'd go about the binary or trinary stars though.
Looking good, Wintercross! Keep up the amazing work!
Yes! This is my plan. Link the skyboxes to specific stars so that we can have accurate Freelancer maps. Then I plan making lots of maps to go with it. 'Phase lanes' will be placed where trade lanes used to be, wormholes for the jump points and maybe even inactive/ruined jump gates in their right places...For multi-star systems I can do a similar thing to what we do in 7DS were we have 'planet' stars.
Shouldn't the H-Fuel extractor look like a gas miner instead of a satellite? There's plenty of them in Sigma-13 to look at for example.
Also an idea in regards to nebula fields, Freelancer vanilla implies that capital ships have very limited scanning visibility in nebula fields, perhaps add debuffs to accuracy/damage for capital ships within a nebula gravity well to keep that element of lore in?
Well there are several gas collecter models but I only need one. See there is a limited amount of stations in freelancer and I need assets for all sorts of things so some repurposing is required.
This model looks good with the particle effect I made.
About nebulae and gas clouds etc. They will have custom abilities that will most likely do as you suggested.
I have all fighters flagged as corvettes so I am able to target them seperatly from freighters and capitals. Radiation zones on the other hand will be really bad for fighters >=D
* Yholl starts having flashbacks of Omega-11 and Omega-41.
* Yholl curls up into fetal position and cries to himself.
* Yholl remembers that he no longer has to worry about vaguely defined insta-kill coronas and planetary atmospheres.
* Yholl is comforted.
Oooooh i cant wait to play as Rheinland they were always my favourite side in the four colonies... well, besides the corsairs.
Great work man; keep it up! cant wait to play the next release.

With those Galaxy Forge maps, do you have any plans to add extra systems? Just to extrapolate on the universe a bit more, and add some territory for factions like the Nomads and BHG to be able to put up a decent fight.
Add additional Omicron systems for the Nomads and Corsairs to fight over, along with the Dyson Sphere. I'm not quite sure how that could work, maybe see if you can get the outside sphere texture and apply it to a super oversized planet?
In Omega-5 (and I think Omega-41), you can see what appears to be the vortex of a black hole in the skybox. Maybe make an Omega system with that, thanks to the Stellar Phenomena Black Hole. Have interesting and very dangerous systems on the edge of known space, filled with resources for those brave enough to take them.
I should probably stop asking about stuff that's a long way off, shouldn't I?
What are your plans for the research trees? I imagine due to the Capital/Fighter weapon split, there would be restructuring of the weapon techs, at least. I was also thinking that maybe the Metal/H-Fuel costs of research be based on the type of research it is, like armor or hull techs would require large amounts of metal, and thruster, power and cruise speed upgrades would require lots of H-Fuel, etc. I'm not sure if that would balance well ingame, though.
If you haven't got anything specifc planned, I might try and draw up a crude research tree for Liberty, see what you think of it and all that. Let me know if there are any Liberty specific research things you plan to have in it, and I'll see if I can come up with something good.
Yeah you can work on a rough idea if you want.
The main points I guess is that the defence page is going to be used for artifact and experimental tech. Also I intend to make the civilian tree a sort of 'corporate contracts' set up. Probably with Ageria Technologies, Deep Space Engineering and a third I haven't decided on yet
for maps, I'd like to make one big map, but also a series of smaller 'scenario' type maps. I probably will expand out the regions a bit.
A news post on ModDB about the four houses strengths and weaknesses: The Four Houses
Here is a short video showing off some of my new particle work:
Nice Work !
What do you mean, vaguely defined? Don't fly so close to the sun! And I'm pretty sure there was an option to turn planetary atmospheres on so you could see a safe zone you could fly in..
I don't think I'll ever forget the time I jumped out of a trade lane to see an AI train and its escort suicide into New Tokyo...
I was playing around with cruise settings one time... I wanted to make it accelerate really fast to max speed (which I made something huge, you could cross a system really fast) but I couldn't work out the right settings to make ships decelerate fast from exiting the cruise... suffice to say many, many brave men and women of the Sirius Sector died from high speed collisions with planets, stations and other objects =P
There wasn't such an option.
And as for vaguely defined, the coronas are not based on the type of star at all. So Sigma-17 has Medium stars with a 6K corona, Omicron Gamma has a Red Dwarf with a 7K corona, other places have Medium stars with 10K coronas, etc.
Thankfully the Red Giant of Omega-11 induces such fear in people that memorising it's corona radius is done by default.
Gotta fly close to the sun to get to the things close to the sun, just pray that your course does not overlap the invisible death sphere.
Anyway, those particles are excellent, you've really got making these down, Wintercross! The Freelancer feel of this is really starting to come together now!
Heh, two cruisers with anti-capital supercannons killed by a capital, wat
Walker is spinning in his grave.
I was considering at some point of making stars kill ships that get too close... so you're not completely in the clear yet Yholl >=P
The Cruiser main guns do need a bit of tweaking... probably reduce the frequency of fire and up the damage a bit...They really do help when going against a Battleship though as the main gun also prevents their shields (and energy I think) from regenerating for a while
I'm sure you noticed I am attempting to at least make my Kinetic weaponry resemble the stuff from Freelancer.Pretty proud of the Rail-Cannon travel and hit effects. I made a smaller version for weaker guns (like the ones on the Liberator) and also made small blue-white tracer rounds for the fighter cannons.
Anyways, I was wondering if you're still up for some research designing Yholl? I'm pretty keen to get something worked out for the next release.
nooOoOOoooOo the stellar bodies they hunger
Yeah, I just haven't gotten around to it yet as I've been full-on modding a different game lately, trying to get out a new beta release.
I haven't been able to work out the best way of displaying a rough draft research tree, so I haven't really started yet. If you've got a good idea for how I could present it, I'll get started right away.
Otherwise I was just going to end up modding it directly into the game and taking screenshots or something really stupid like that, heh.
I was thinking of drafting a rough layout in Photoshop and working it out from there. Not sure if you have Photoshop or an equivalent, but you could get the research background pictures and map it out over it.
Yeah, got GIMP.
I'll put together a rough thing-ama-thing, see how it turns out.
