Screw it, all future games will just have the word Poochie in it.
Every time we try to think of a name for a future game, pow. It’s taken.
make up words or a Sci-fi sounding name in it
Urmongdon's Portal
Most will get the hint of the game type by the included graphic and icon.
Prepare to be sued by Mattel:
I'll bet "Developer's Instant Regret" isn't taken yet. Then again, I wanted to name my favorite double black diamond run "Dental Records".
Stop using non-proper nouns. Bam, problem solved.
Seriously, your games use the most generic words ever. Elemental? Fallen? Enchantress? War? Magic? Please. It's not that those are bad words per say, its just so basic. Obviously the generic words get used first.
From a list I found of all games Stardock developed, as opposed to published:
Business Tycoon
Galactic Civilizations
Society
Entrepreneur
The Political Machine
These are not names, they are dry descriptions of what happens in the game. Some of them are just individual common nouns. How do you expect to use a single common noun and come up with original names?
pacov will create the best game title ever for you. Describe the game. Boom. Franchise worth 2 mil. You are welcome.
random letters as someone/something's name... then tag on some other rubbish for the genre related part
I fear this will someday become a problem for movies as well...I can already see it...

Only game that stood out on the top 100 steam games was Skyrim, but it's also prefaced with The Elder Scrolls
My assumption is naming games is like naming movies. A bad name can turn people off from a good game or movie while a great name won't help a bland game or movie as much.
Basically you want the name to be memorable and hopefully create a mental image towards the game.
On the flip side some obfuscated name that is so original it has no meaning won't probably work as well.
I'm not sure what my opinions of a "good name" are, or at least my opinions on how valuable it is. I've always thought that "Sins of a Solar Empire" was a fantastic of a name for any game, book, etc as I have ever heard. Never played it though. So no matter how cool I thought the name was, I have never played the game.
That's pretty much the point. Great names won't help a product as much as a Bad name can hurt a product.
Heh, Sins made me think of some kind of Leisure Suit Larry in space kind of game for some reason. Well I never played it either, but can't say the name had anything to do with that decision.
You should make another business game. I like business games.
You could name it "That Other Business Game" or something.
"sim publisher"
"the game where the people do some stuff for some other people to stop the bad people from doing more stuff to the good people and ruining that place where the people do their stuff in the process"
I take cash or credit. Available on Windows 7/8/whatever newfangled derperating system Microsoft comes up with in the future.
