It's taken me awhile to start this thread, sorry. I know this may end up in flame wars. Again I am sorry.
So everyone knows my situation. Well those close to me on this site do. My computer is finally showing signs of how old it truly is. Keep in mind my computer has a Pentium 4 processor so I am guessing this setup to be almost ten years old. The problem, even after a few friends helped me here with a new hard drive and more memory, is the rest of the system. The processor can't keep up with the newer operating systems. I'm having a hard time just running XP. Found out the other day my DVD Burner drive is almost dead as it will read disc sometimes and other times it will not. Monitor is on it's last legs as well. Hard to read anything and the brightness is going out. It's an old CRT Dell monitor that is almost as old as the tower.
As Starkers had told you this computer is my main way to communicate with the things that are important in my life. So I was hoping someone out there had a few newer parts I could install to extend the life of the machine a bit. Nothing special. I already have DDR2 memory and a newer hard drive. Just need a few other things.
So carry on. Discuss I guess.
No you didn't. We can read under the line ya kmow.
Karma, hehe. kona and I have know each other for at least 10 years. He gives me shit and I give him shit. Always been like that and will probably always be like that.
Last time I checked I don't give you any kind of trouble. This probably still stems from that big issue over at skinning.net with I was a moderator there. Either that or you have nothing better to do. I do my best to avoid you actually. I don't want to start any problems.
I tried the reverse once.....didn't work.
80 GB IDE HDD and cable are on their way.
Should be there on Monday.

Ace, that transfer looks like it went through.DT1
Well I have been keeping busy. Organizing my MP3 collection, and renaming a few eBook collections one by one. Need to organize my bookmarks. Just waiting. Hopefully everything gets here Monday, and everything works. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Have you tracked stuff? Is it close?
Last I checked the tracking number it was in Kansas city
Any news on the disk yet Kona. Snail mail being what it is.
Kona i hope that memory helped you after all
Ed
Yeah I got the disc on Uvah. Got it in last week. I just hope that key works. I don't like calling people! LOL
The memory helped Jaroepz. In fact I am using it right now. Thanks!
The Tower, board, & cables should get there tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. -- Ace --
Also Kona, I wanted to let you know that the tower and the board are already assembled and all the wiring from the front panel is already properly plugged into the board. All you'll need to do is mount your CPU and cooling system , PSU, memory, and Drives, all the proper cabling for these items are already plugged into the proper connections on the board. I wanted to make it as easy for you as I could, but of course as I said earlier, I included the owners manuals for both the board & the tower in the event that you had any questions or problems. That computer was EXTREMELY fast when I was using it , so I'm excited to see what you're experience will be like. -- Ace ---
Well I'm used to a Pentium 4 at 3 Ghz, single core. We will see I guess. Never had a quad core processor. I'm expecting the new CPU to act just like this P4 with the ability to do more in the background, that's it. And I will only have 3 GB of RAM for now, I think I gave away one of my 1 GB sticks.
It has 4 memory slots so you can add a stick anytime you get another, but really, 3GB will be plenty fast for right now. Remember that your video card also has it's own dedicated GPU memory which is an added benfit when it comes to speed. -- Ace --
Yeah the graphics card has 256 MB of memory. Not much by today's standards i guess.
you got it for free and you're dissing it?
No no, you misunderstand. I'm very happy that I got the card, it is a better card than I have ever had. I was just pointing out that by today's standards it may be lacking. As if I care, it will better than this 8mb onboard Intel card i am using. Maybe it will be able to play Command & Conquer with no lagging issues. That would be sweet!
It's ironic that you play Command & Conquer. I'm a HUGE C&C fan.... I play ALL the time and I have every single C&C game there is. I played all the time on that unit I'm sending you with no issues at all. I LOVE C&C !! -- Ace --
Yeah I have Command & Conquer The First Decade. It really doesn't like to play on Windows 7 without a patch or two and even then I can't get the oldest games, made for Windows 95, to work. That's OK, my favs are Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, and Generals. Wonder what C&C 4 is like. I also play a few Facebook games. that's about it other than Monopoly, The Game Of Life, and a few other kids games the kid likes to play.
Don't waste your time or money on C&C 4. It's the worst version of the game I ever played. It is nothing like it's predecesors and it doesn't even look anything like C&C ...I totally wasted $50 bucks on that game and it got horrible reviews as well. My most favorite version is C&C Generals- Zero Hour. But C&C 3 - Tiberium Wars is a good one as well, I play it alot too. Atari also has a good war game that I play alot too, it's called Act of War - Direct Action & an expansion pack Act of War - High Treason. I like it because it plays alot like C&C except that the graphics detail is much better. You can get it online just about anywhere & since it's an older game , you can get it dirt cheap. I got mine 2 years ago for $9 bucks ! -- Ace --
