Had a strange conversation with JakeMac, thought I'd post it and get it out there in case this is some exploit he is using.
Check your format please.
Well, the dialogue doesn't say a lot... What do you think the cheat was doing?
Fixed, sorry for the bad formatting. It just strikes me as very odd that he is doing something that is causing the game to crash and he is asking me to help him test it, but he refuses to tell me what it is. And of course then he threatens to have me banned from skilled games for even knowing what he is doing.
On a side note I find it funny that he calls himself tier 1 and claims to be the best player in Sins.
Lol drama - Jakemac has a slim grasp on the English language but it seemed like he was saying he knows a cheat that helps him win yet it makes the game crash? It still doesn't make sense...
I played a game with a guy who as he said caused desync last time.
It was 2v2 game He was loosing in a game when he said he will hack it couple of times so he does not get a loose. True 2 seconds after we were desynced. Coincidence ????
To be honest I don't care but I guess he could know what causes desync and if he passed knowledge to devs we might have more stable game.
Jake is an uber troll just like Huy...only difference is that he doesn't speak ALL CAPS DIALECT...
Ironically Jake has just put himself in a very bad situation that could get him banned if anything he said is actually true...
I'm not sure what Jake is getting at here...though, a friend of mine once told me that they used DNS attacks to disconnect them from game servers without hurting their stats....was a while ago though and not for ICO...
What is the relationship between JakeMac and HuyMac?
Might have been someone trolling, but I think remember the word Nephew coming up at some point. Not positive.
-Huzzah!
I think Huy is Jake's uncle... i remember Jake playing under Huy's name a few times before he got his own account.
According to Jake, yes that is the relationship....of course for all we know Jake is his dog's sisters cat's pet hamster's great great grandstepfather....
So.... a cat has a pet hamster? I can't see that relationship ending well.
Delicious, but not well. I could have swore it was the other way around, though, but I never talked to either one so IDK.
As an FYI for all multiplayer Sins: Rebellion folk: If you encounter a griefer on ICO, please feel free to PM me the date and time (please include time zone - we're in Eastern Time). I am happy to look at the server logs to investigate problem folks and deal with them accordingly.
Thanks Yarlen! I don't think I'd call what he was doing "grief" per se but it certainly was very suspicious and I for one HATE cheaters.
It really does look like he was trying to find a way to crash a game before he loses, but the possibility does exist that he just thought he found something he wanted to keep to himself on a tactical level. A very small chance, for sure, but a chance...
Well, you can simply "kill" the game either through task manager or by tabbing to your desktop...that prevents the game from being registered as a played game...however, that is a well known thing down by many people and I wouldn't say it's necessarily "cheating" since it doesn't help you win and no one gives a rats ass about stats anyway....
Now, being able to cause desyncs on demand, that is entirely different....
Was in a 5v5 last night and ended up next to JakeMac (opposite teams). We go back and forth for a while but he seems to always be outbuilding me and ends up winning. Our teams were fairly even and I don't know how much feed he was getting (it seemed like a LOT the way he is spamming fleet). Immediately upon quitting the game I MD'd (haven't seen one of those in a while, in fact the only I've seen is the one JakeMac caused on purpose in his earlier "tests"). I decided to go back and watch the game to see where I went wrong, but when I loaded the recording it was 1 hour and 13 minutes of.... nothing. Each player sat at their HW with nothing building but income being collected for the entire 1:13:00.
Maybe I'm overreacting, maybe it was just a glitch of some sort. But coupled with my experience with Jake's level of skill in previous games plus the "tests" he was running just a few days ago make me think something is up here.
I think with most games there are exploits the developers have not corrected. Also, most games if your files do not match the game will not start . In WoT you could modify the game player side but it diod not change the game at all. Just did things like making enemies color coded differently, remapping the keys, etc. A distinct advantage that even I used while playing.
However, I ran an antivirus right after finishing playing for the night (or maybe while playing) after testing his "theory". 7 Malware programs had to be removed from my system after he crashed the game with his test. I use social websites and surf websites with attractive women baring it all, but the worst Ive ever found from them is 1 or 2 virus after browsing for an hour or two. Not saying Jake is Hacking, but a smart kid like him just might be "testing" his pc "knowledge" and skills. Its very common lol.
The one thing about pc gaming is TV doesnt hold a candle to it. "Trying" to play at the highest level of gameplay is what a hobby is all about. SoasE has a good interface and if you have ever played other games, you know that after the fix the minidumps have gone down not up. The fixes might cause a little lag, but if you play other games, SoaseR is not that bad. No need to cheat, but unlike WoT you have nothing to lose by losing a game. I am sure the devs will address any issues to keep the game balanced for everyone. The games popularity is still very strong.
This weekend I played about 5-6 games. Twice I was hunting down a capital ship. They played jump in and jump out to avoid my fleet. I admit I wasnt fast enough to divide my fleet and trap them. They did, however jump back and forth twice and jump away the third time on a lane not linked by the map (that I could see). Not sure how they did this. I do know that exploits and tricks that are not in the rulebook are "trade" secrets among the best players.
Now I feel like such a loser since I know none of these.
On the other hand, I feel like such a winner to know that my losses can all be ascribed to other players' exploits and tricks. In fact, I feel nearly elated.
I used to just like to put the blame for my losses on poor play by my teammates. But it's even better that I can blame the enemy team for cheating. This is great news.
If I'm wrong about Jake I'll be the first to stand up and apologize for it. I don't ever assume my loses are due to anything but my inferior skill, knowledge, or execution.
I don't often (or ever) throw this kind of accusation out and I am only saying this in this case because, as Spock teaches us, if you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be true. I don't exactly know what Jake is doing or if he is doing anything at all, but it sure looks like it is something.
Please don't take the above statement to mean I think it's impossible that he beat me. Candido you know I don't advocate for recognition (tier 2, srsly).
And like you, Candido, any "trade secrets" would certainly be news to me. I enjoy a game that is skill against skill. I dislike a game that is rigged. If Jake is doing nothing shady then good on him, he certainly has become very, very good at this game. If he is cheating because he likes to win he should be shamed and shunned in MP.
The replay gets corrupted when a game mini-dumps and usually doesn't work properly. End of game mini-dumps aren't that uncommon for the big games that go long, and from what I could see when I was playing a couple months ago, the problem has not gone away. IF there was any hacking, it would most likely be trying to disrupt the game externally, not actually reaping benefits from inside the game engine. He was probably just fed or snowballed if his attrition was lower.
While I completely admit to not playing much the last 2-3 years, there were never any "trade secrets" that had anything to do with blatant exploits within the game engine. The biggest bug I can think of was how Illuminators over-applied damage and that wasn't a secret, everyone knew Illuminator swarms were the best tactic in the game but no one knew why until JJ demonstrated the bug.The best players just execute faster, have more efficient strategies, and can make better tactical decisions because they can better predict an outcome of a fight based on their experience. That is why replays are so necessary, so you can see how another play pulled off a "trick".
"Tricks", "Exploits", and "Cheats" are 3 very very different things...
"Tricks" are simply good strategies that aren't apparent or obvious to all players...anyone can do them, but a simple lack of experience or knowledge can prevent someone from implementing them...using armistice right before RB actually fires is a "trick" (one would have to know that RB has a delay time)...colonizing asteroids/moons with one colony frigate and using a turret is a "trick" (one would need to know that militia krosovs move and reposition when a turret starts building)...
"Tricks" may not have originally been intended by the devs, but they are by no means game breaking or huge distortions to balance...they also do not require bugs, hacks, or glitches in order to work...
There are many tricks that skilled/experienced players use, and most nearly all of them have been openly discussed on the forums...in short, they are by no means "trade secrets" though one may need to do some asking or browse the forums in order to be aware of them...
"Exploits" are a full step above mere "tricks"...like "tricks", "exploits" are available to all players...however, "exploits" clearly are unintended strategies that result from either a bug/glitch or a dev oversight...playing as VR and glitching 2 Orkies into the same gravity would be an "exploit" if it were possible...illuminator spam back when overtime weapons were bug would be an "exploit"...researching wail then scuttling 4 civ labs (but still being able to use the ability) would be an "exploit" if it was clear by the devs (either through the forums or other game decisions) that all late game abilities were supposed to require labs both to research and use....
Sometimes "exploits" only become apparent when a balance patch comes out...as in the above example, it may not be known whether the devs intended wail to always require 7 civ labs in order to work...but if a patch came out and fixed that, then it would be apparent that it was in fact formerly an exploit...(to clarify, wail in and of itself would not be an "exploit" even if it was grossly OP; researching it then scuttling the labs would be the "exploit")
Like "tricks", "exploits" are fair game since anyone can use them...that they may ruin a game or severely distort balance does not change the fact that they are fair game....but, hosts may ban well known or OP "exploits" and to use them then would put your reputation at risk...
"Cheats" fall into 3 categories...the first kind of "cheats" result from a "proper" mechanism for cheating...for example, nearly all Maxis games (like the Sims) have cheat codes that can be entered in by the player...in sins, this would be the dev.exe, and if it was possible to use it on ICO then doing so would clearly be cheating...
The second kind is what I call "classic cheating"...screen-looking is the most common example for console gamers...if I was in a game with Radioactive (but on the other team), and I was watching his live feed while playing against him, that would also be "classic cheating" (albeit a rather lame one since there is delay and I'd have limited intel)....
The last kind of "cheats" are hacks...they are not part of a "proper" mechanism for cheating and do not exploit mere glitches or simple bugs...this type of cheating is not "available to everyone" in that it requires specialized knowledge or skills...modding your Xbox to fly up in the air while playing Halo 2 is a clear cheat...using a DNS attack to force players out of a game would clearly be cheating...running a program that accelerates your income relative to other players would be cheating...
JakeMac: [Explaining the plan] Alright so when the sub routine compounds the black market exchange rate it is uses all these extra decimal places that just get rounded off. So we simplified the whole thing, we rounded them all down, drop the remainder into credits from other sources. Mr_Book: [Confused] So you're cheating? JakeMac: Ah no, you don't understand. It's very complicated. It's uh it's aggregate, so I'm talking about fractions of a penny here. And over time they add up to a lot. Mr_Book: Oh okay. So you're gonna be making a lot of credits, right? JakeMac: Yeah. Mr_Book: Right. It's not yours? JakeMac: Well it becomes ours. Mr_Book: How is that not cheating? JakeMac: [pauses] I don't think I'm explaining this very well. Mr_Book: Okay. JakeMac: Um... the 7-11. You take a penny from the tray, right? Mr_Book: From the cripple children? JakeMac: No that's the jar. I'm talking about the tray. You know the pennies that are for everybody? Mr_Book: Oh for everybody. Okay. JakeMac: Well those are whole pennies, right? I'm just talking about fractions of a penny here. But we do it from a much bigger tray and we do it a couple a million times.
