Dream Team Academy
So, I have decided to challenge some of my clanmates and other pro players of the community to take *one* new player under their wing and help them get better at sins. We will look for people who are dedicated and are serious about getting better. I am not trying to help out every person at once, but rather focus our attentions on one or two people at a time to get them caught up to speed and ready to contribute to 5v5s.
This means each pro takes a player under his wing, and at the very least should:
If you are new, or a pro, you can post here to sign up and I'll add you to the list.
For the new players:
You need to show some commitment and enthusiasm if you expect to be tutored. Every pro has his own standards for accepting an apprentice. For example, if I have a vacancy, I expect new players to add me on steam after sending me a PM on sins forums notifying me of their interest and steam name. From there I will conduct a small interview just to get to know them and determine their enthusiasm. If I like what I hear, I will add them to the list.
In your post, be sure to include:
For the pros:
If you are a pro, you too must be committed to helping a player learn in the long haul, and even if you are bored of sins, you still are around on steam to answer questions when you are playing other games. Be communicative and encourage them to play sins with you when you are.
Pros signed up:

Mentees looking for tutoring:
Hi All
I would be grateful for an opportunity to be mentored in the very near future and wonder what the prerequisites will be.
I ve basically bought the original game several months ago with no research what so ever, and i asume like many other players, was put off by lack of any story or campaign mode, which normally allows you to learn a game. So i just started a custom game --> stared at my starting planet blankly for 20 seconds --> Menu -->Quit.
However last week i came across a youtube video of someone playing the game and expaining game mechanics and basically loved everything about the game. I promptly reinstalled Sins and was hooked after the first game. I have only played a few games as they do take many hours to complete for a totally new player. First game i played took me 5 hours 10 minutes to beat the Normal AI. Second game 3 hours 20 minutes to beat Hard AI on a small map.
These few games were enough for me to ditch the old Sins and buy Rebellion off steam to be up to date and be able to use all the new toys and features. New race splits and researches are awesome btw!
Anyways i wonder what kind of basic knowledge do i need to qualify for some mentoring bearing in mind that i havent even played every race, although i can beat AI on Hard difficulty and not lost a game vs computer yet. I would like to get up to speed pretty quick and do like multiplayer games.
Normally im pretty good with RTS games, used to play Warcraft 3 for years and more recently SC2 / Dota2. I love the war of attrition tactics( RA2 anyone? ) but obviously they arent ideal in MP games. However since this game is more macro oriented than most micro-intense RTS games i dont know how long it will take for me to pick it up or get to a decent level!
Already got a mate to buy rebellion as well as trying to get more friends to get involved.
Anyways hi to everyone from a new player.
Regards
JinglyGoo
If you are looking for a mentor, it seems folks are generously giving of their time based on the volunteer list. So, if you're new to the game, and....
1... want to be a pro-fighter and just kill everyone early, completely, and right away, try to sign up with PlayerSlayer
2.... want to get down economics, laying a foundation, and then dominating everyone, try to sign up with Howthe?
3... want a balanced approached, sign up with Doci.
I would really like all the pros to start including their steam name, this way the noobs know how to get in contact with you. I have updated the list of people looking for mentors, I'd like to think I can play grand matchmaker, but if the noobs add all the pros with open slots, this would make my life easier. They can then talk to each individual pro and see if it will be a good fit. If they have no luck, they can always talk to me or post again on the forums and I will see what I can do to accommodate them.
Hi, I'm a Starcraft 2 player and I bought the game a few weeks ago on steam.
I've since played a few SP games, the tutorial, and a few MP games to get a grip, but I still don't quite understand how the game works with the whole 'team' aspect.
See, I'm used to playing on my own terms. In Starcraft 2, I play Terran. This means that I dictate the pace of the game; Terran is the aggressive race. The one that never stops attacking after the initial economic build-up. If you're forced to stop attacking and harassing, then you die.
I support myself, and only play 1v1's. I rarely played team games if ever because I hated having to rely on a team. Here, it's the standard. It's slow, meticulous, and involves a lot more talking and strategising.
I'm lost. I want to enjoy the game, but I don't understand much of it at all. I try to build my economy and fleet at the same time because I don't want to die to attacks, but I don't want to fall behind either, so I either end up dying to a huge fleet early, or I die to a huge fleet later.
My nickname on steam is Fencar. I'll see you sometime~
Akaihane, Gneckes, Chefwong, please post here if you are still interetsed, I haven't received a pm from you guys or an invite on steam
Hey Fencar, I'll be in contact with you
I am totally new to Steam and have only casually played SOASE the original when it first came out. I have been playing Rebellion now for about a week and have only attempted single player to try to get the hang of things but inevitably either end in a stand off with just one AI or get obliterated by 4. I could really use some help here. I am typically on for hours in the evening just trying to figure out what I am doing wrong LOL.
New players, in your post could you also indicate under which pro you would like to be mentored?
I'm not sure which pro would be a good fit for me but from what I have read Doci may be more up my ally as far as playing style.
So last night in a 4v4 Zyzyfer was the last player standing on his team and his HW was destroyed. 2 other players had already "gg"ed out and were being controlled by AI. Zyzyher, however, refused to leave, forcing us to spend about 45 minutes clearing out the AI's, nor would he even respond to anything said in game. I don't know if he just tabbed out and was surfing the internet or what, but if you read this Zyzyfer understand that is extremely rude and will get you booted from any games I'm a part of.
Doci here and I'm still open for mentoring any new players wishing to learn! To contact me, either message me on ICO if I'm on, or add my steam account: simplygone
I'm a noob, ready to learn. lol... i get the basics relatively and have played a few games.
Sent an invite on Steam Doci...
Added you on Steam on Nightraid3r.
That's actually a pretty accurate description of our strong points, but it is not unheard of for Slayer to do "soft eco" and for me to rush someone.
Lord Daem, I think I can help you out as my time zone is also London. I will add you as steam. Do you want to accept me as your mentor? My steam name is PlayerSlayer.
Lord Daem is officially my mentee.
Yea Star, change the open slots of mine and Player to filled, please.
My apologies to you Sir, didn't realise the situation; albeit I am getting better at it and since then even learned how to chat in game only to allies using "tab" *LOL yeah I am a noob. If I stayed in game when I should have surrendered, this was not done intentionally or to bring fret onto other players. I must have simply missed your messages. It's also hard to notice players logging off at times, and until very recently I wasn't even aware of the mechanics surrounding this ( I wrongly assumed a defeated player will simply disappear and not get replaced by AI- so until very recently I though AI's were the actual players). I will pay closer attention to loggers/GG's.
Zyzyfer, I guess it happens, just be more careful next time.
As to the rest of you who have signed up, welcome. I will be adding you on steam, or answering PMs today.
Zyzyfer I appreciate the apology and accept it, but I certainly caution you to pay attention to in-game chat. You had no planets for a LONG time and the in game chat is white text in the top middle of the screen. I told you about 15 times that the game was over and it was time to quit.
I will give you another chance, just remember that kind of behavior is about the fastest way to get blacklisted and booted from future games.
Sorry, I've only just seen this! Thanks for becoming my mentor
Hey star, I'm officially mentoring Cha0t1k That is his ico name. His account on forums is hendricksonba. Anyway, make sure you put me as filled.
