If a topic is so worth discussing then let posters make a new topic, stop leaving old topics open for years and years, it's untidy and needlessly clutters up the Recent Posts view when someone chips in on a topic that was over a long time ago.
MarvinKosh... frequently that's done by spammers and by folks thinking, "Oh, better to post here, my problem is similar.", or folks whose native language isn't English and an OP intimidates them... also, there are some true gems amongst the necrothreads which remind us oldtimers of others and other times...some of which are really nice to remember.
Overall, yes it would be better to create a new OP... but there are mitigating circumstances, at least for some.
Thanks for noticing. Happy holidays to you and yours, and thanks for contributing, here.
.There are some times when a thread needs a bUMp and there are times when it is just a spammer with a forums death wish. (Jafo know how to deal with both)
What ya say we let those who are in charge decide which is which? Leave those "old' topics as they are, please and just move along if need be.
BTW, now that I have replied to this post, it shows up in my 83 pages of replies. Some are junk, some are gems, all are mine. I'm still proud to be here, in thanks to, or in spite of others. At this stage of my life, I'll take either one.
Have a Merry Christmas.
Same to you.
I actually enjoy seeing old threads brought back to life if it's for a good purpose, such as discussing how something turned out a few years later. A necro is a necro, but a good post is also a good post.
In fact, I might just go revive an old beauty right now... well perhaps in a while... just for the hell of it... hehe.
And the more necrotic it is the better, me thinks. Hmmm, something from around when Moses was a lad. perhaps.
Or from when Noah was filling the Ark? Hehe, can't get more necro than that... unless yer wants ta go prehistoric.
There again, something from when Doc was a lad would be pretty ancient, dontcha think? Like the wheel had been invented by then... they just hadn't found a use for it, that's all.
It'd be pretty damned necro if we went back as far to when Jafo was a freckle-faced nipper with red hair and a tongue that hung out of his mouth with monotonous regularity each time he got excited. That trip from King Island to Melbourne was pretty exciting for him, which is probably why he can't remember that the flight was in fact by hot air balloon, not a Gooney Bird, as he so fondly but mistakenly remembers... because propellers for aircraft hadn't been invented as yet.
Then there's Uvah, he was around when God handed out the first dirt to farmers and told them to till the land.
And I, of course, was there when God turned on the lights, so I'm afraid, me old sunshine, you're gonna see some necro threads for a few years to come. But hey, there s one consolation! You won't have to go all the way to the Smithsonian Institute to read ancient scrolls... there'll be some here.
What I done?
I shall find this post and post upon it, in five years.
Bump? hehe
If I wrote it all down it would take people 2 weeks to read it all. they just don't have that much time.
Where you been. I tried to email you and both times it got kicked back sayin' it can't find you. The SMX is ready to go!
Are the dynasties coming back?
Merry Christmas!
Nothing, but you've been around long enough to out-necro the most necro thread of all... and simply, you deserved a [fond] mention
Shoot, and I was gunna wait the 10 years. Oh Well, I can scratch that one off the calendar.... or not!
You would know, now wouldn't ya? Traces of cabbage gasses were found in the fossilized remains of dinosaurs.
Merry Christmas Cap'n!
Yeah, I nearly forgot about you! You're so necro that Merlin took wizard lessons from you... and wondered how something so old still worked.
Yeah, same to you and yours this festive season... and a Happy New Year to you all as well.
One thing I've learned over the years is that no topic is ever truly dead...it's only dormant until the next person in need of those answers comes along
Kinda like Curried Cabbage eh. Whatever happened to the WB I wonder.
I have also seen at least one post on another forum where someone slammed an OP for starting a thread that was previously covered, suggesting they should have done a search.
Okay well really:
https://forums.galciv2.com/117780
https://forums.galciv2.com/98074/
Those two are the most annoying. Every now and then some bright spark gets it into their head to dredge up the long-dead topic of multiplayer GC2. You guys are done with GC2, right?
These topics have served their purpose. If someone wants to research them to come up with a more convincing case for multiplayer then fine, but that argument is going to have more impact if it comes at the head of a fresh topic and not tacked on at page twenty where nobody will read it. And one or two lines of reply to those old topics definitely won't accomplish anything, except to annoy people who see that there's a post about their game, only to realise it's just another plus one job.
If I could mark those topics as 'read, done that, don't show it to me again ever please' then I would, but your forums seem to lack that feature.
Not so! The MOST annoying is the one that accuses me of putting on weight, being frivolous and flippant, flatulent and vulgar... too damned jovial.
Naturally, no link will be provided as I no longer wish to revisit it.
Because he ate the link. Frivolous and Flippant, Flatulent and Vulgar are notorious for that sorta thing.
That'd be right... Uvah's the link when we haven't got a link.
Somebody please remind me next year to take him off my birthday an Christmas card list.
I'm not at all koalified... got expelled before those classes commenced. Mother tried to get me into another school where I could matriculate, but when I told her the head master was into self-flagellation, she just phoned, called him a dirty old pervert and sent me out to work instead. Thus I am unkoalified and don't kow much about anything.
And yet you yourself have posted on the last pages of BOTH ...doing your own bit to keep them from dying a death.
And...
Both are authored by Frogboy so it's a brave lad who'd be willing to cull them....
You CAN be your own worst enemy....
Diskoalified as well.
