I think the prices on armor for heroes should be lower, maybe some other items too. The production cost for things like armor is quite low; yet it can cost 50-ish gildar to buy a single piece of leather armor for a hero. Whereas buy cost to build that item for the 3 units in a troop would be far cheaper.
I can understand things that take special resources like crystal or metal costing somewhat more to buy; but things made off pure production shoudln't be expensive at all to get for a hero.
Agree.
Me too.
Equiping a hero with basic armour (at least, a shield and a helmet) should not be so expensive, and more in the early game, when gildar are so scarce.
Yep, I agree, it's should be cheaper for leather armors...I think high end armor is just about right, but not sure about medium armor like a chain armor in tree might need little bit cheaper since I get those "mastercraft chain armor" in my custion faction...
I don't think you're meant to just buy all your equips, that would make the adventuring part of the game seem rather meaningless. Hunting, selling loot, buying armor... to be honest, I think it's a pretty good balance atm.
I don't mean to buy all equip, only to have an easier access to the most basic leather set.
It is sad that in early/mid game, you can deploy armies with, let's say, chainmails and swords, and the sov only has a leather shield or a rusty helmet, and that thanks to having found it in a quest/loot.
I usually build my heros with no weapons or armor and just buy it, it's cheaper and reduces the build time.
The items at start and from mobs are usually far better than leather crap anyways. Stock up on Rusty stuff , save your gold for chain/light plate instead. The prices seems okay to me.
I agree with this. It's fun to be able loot something you can actually use. If you can easily buy a complete set--even if it's just leather--then most of what we loot early will just be stuff to sell to a vendor.
I agree. The costs are way too high compared to what it would cost to build the items on normal troops. Money is better spent elsewhere than the outrageous 90 gold for a leather tunic.
You can find far better loot than leather armor. Being able to afford a full set of leather would in no way reduce my desire to loot everything I can find. It would make early game lairing easier though so perhaps that's why they don't want us running around in leather right away.
The game is about all about making hard choices... where do want to spend your money? Rushing buildings? Recruiting heroes? Buying equipment? Trading with the AI?
They are not going to change the prices. If you want to make a game of non-difficult choices, you can mod or ask one of the modders for a new game.
I think that the high prices of regular equipment solved several problems from a game design perspective. For one thing, it made common loot more valuable. When you quest early, and find a pair of leather bracers, you're actually happy. For another thing, there was a quite serious problem in earlier versions where all your heroes started to look exactly the same. This was at least partly because they were all equipped with the best equipment that was available in the stores. This problem, which really bothered me, is pretty much gone. A little bit of weirdness about why prices are so high is a small price to pay for these important fixes.
What a point of of buying those leather armor in store if loot is a better? It's far better had leather armor pices cheaper...
The only problem is that there is no choice. You just don't buy stuff from the shop.
