Hey all. I bought rebellion a few months ago and I've been playing mostly offline with some of my real life friends. I decided to start playing online because I was getting more involved and wanted to play more often. I've now played about 20 games and I've run into a trend that I greatly dislike...
It seems like the majority of players online just want a fast, rush style game. Sometimes they are 5v5, 3v3, FFA whatever the basic idea seems to be the same. All settings to faster and try to rush your opponent as fast as possible to win. I understand that this strategy works and that the highly competitive players do this to win. My issue is that it seems like the vast majority of players online have this mentality. As if everyone was playing for money or something. I see thread after thread about people trying to maximize their outputs and do every click planned and thought out. There is even a thread where one player tells another that he was 1 min late getting a certain ship out...
The point of this thread is that I'm looking to find people that play for fun and not min/max gaming. That kind of gaming is best left for starcraft or similar fast paced RTS. To me, this game is a slower paced, more laid back RTS and that's what I enjoy about it so much. I can get up and go to the bathroom and not worry that I missed 30 seconds of microing my techs lol.
I've only played 20 games so I know it's a small sample size, but are there players like this online? If so where is a good place to find casual players? The lobby never has more than 5 people in it and they are either AFK or looking to join a 5s skilled game.
Also I don't want anyone to get confused, casual does not mean bad player. I do quiet well online even though I hate the fast paced style. I'm something like 16-4 in my 20 games, mostly in those fast paced skilled games. My desire is to find players who are more laid back and willing to play at a slower and more enjoyable pace. I like games that last two hours as opposed to thirty mins.
Thanks
I have tried to find games online and have seen the same issues of no one in the lobby or people only looking to set a new speed record on finishing a game. I would be interested in playing a more relaxed atmosphere type game so hit me up sometime... That goes for all who have posted in this thread.
oops forgot to give my steam handle
i go by careylv on steam as well... please add... hope to see you all online
I'm also into the laid back style of Sins which has got me hooked onto this game. So add me.
My Steam handle is Arodace.
The only problem is that I am from Australia so when everyone is asleep I am awake and vice versa (usually the case). So communicating a time would be a tad difficult but there is not harm in trying eh.
I'm nocturnal. Problem solved.

The curse of being an Australian online gamer. You're not the only Australian sinner out there. A guy named Hack used to play the game often (but hasn't been around for about two or three years). One of the frequent players is an Australian guy named BagsX.
The multiplayer is fun. The hardcore players play very competitively. Its true in most games. I stopped playing multiplayer as it is very fun but I was having mild dizzy spells in the hardcore games. Not to mention the language that flew out of my mouth.
There are plenty of slower 3v3 and other games. You cant escape the hardcore players in a good game like this. They are a good group of people but you have to be able to keep up.
Nice to see some people of a similar mindset. I used to play way back when the original was first released and was looking to get back into it. I have kicked on ICO a few times but haven't seen anybody playing the original which I suppose is to be expected. After looking over the forums I can see the community has become quite small and seemingly hyper competitive. Obviously I would be extremely rusty and have to learn some of the new mechanics of the expansions but if there is still a more casual crowd kicking around let me know and maybe I will pick up Rebellion. And don't get me wrong I do like to compete I am just not looking to develop 120 apm and practice a build order down to the second as that takes the fun out of it for me.
Add me! Me and my friends play non-competitive FFAs and stuff, and I'm trying to build up a non-competitive community around it. Though, the trouble is that a non-competitive player often means an infrequent one, so all I have are my actual friends who I can convince to join me and a few players from playing online who are never on.
I'm hoping that once I have enough people, there will be a point of critical mass in which there will be enough people to play to make it more worth while for everyone to be on, which will hopefully create a self-sustaining casual community.
