Q: What is the Map Pack?
A: It is a collection of pre-made maps and random map stamps.
Q: Does it help with randomly generated maps?
A: Yes, it includes a host of new stamps that make the random maps richer as well.
Q: What’s special about the pre-made maps over a randomly generated map?
A: With pre-made maps, we can do things that the random map generator can’t.
Q: Like what?
A: For example, it includes the Anthys map which is over 5X bigger than the normal large map. A normal large map fills up with 8 players. With Anthsys, over a dozen players would have lots of room to expand.
We also have boats on these maps that players can take to sail out to areas and explore the seas for hidden islands and treasures. Pre-made maps also let us do crazy things like have a map where it’s all Wild Lands all the time with everyone trying to survive and ultimately conquer them.
Q: Are the starting positions hard-coded?
A: No, even on Anthys, we made it so that the starting positions are randomized so that you can play it over and over again.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: $4.99
Q: Where can I get it?
A: You can get it here: https://www.elementalgame.com/fallen-enchantress/purchase. If you bought FE on Steam, you can get it on the Steam page.
While custom maps do not speak to me too much, the boat XML does (once it works for everyone). Could you release the XML for boats and such to the modding community? And yes, I'm aware that with current maps the boats are useless.
Perhaps SD will produce a version with the Wildlands included sometime soon. I am enjoying the extra NPC's they've placed in the Anthys map. Finding a library tile which game +100 research was also nifty- I'd never run across such a large bonus in Sandbox mode.
Very dissapointed with this map pack. I actually only brought it for the Anythys map and I was expecting it to work with game settings.
Purchased for the stamps and huge map.
Purchased to support future development of the game in general.
I just wanted to clarify about "map stamps" for any others that are considering the map pack. I made the assumption that these would take the form of a larger selection of "settings" in the random map generator, but this was not the case. The random map generator contains the same number of setting options with the same possibilities as before map pack installation. The map stamps are the pregenerated puzzle pieces which are added to maps to create obstacles, etc. For example, the map pack adds more different shaped chasms to the game allowing for greater terrain variety.
As an aside, I am one of the E:WoM preorder faithful who received E:FE for free and I have found E:FE to be orders of magnitude more stable and enjoyable. I really haven't much use for the premade maps, but I am a strong believer in voting with your wallet. If my $5 will encourage you to continue development of E:FE, odds are in my favor that you will eventually include content that I would like to see such as a sensible pretactical combat unit arrangement which is dependent on unit position in the army roster (positions 1-3 in the front row, etc). Obviously this would require the ability to shuffle the army roster order. However, this is simply one example. I am happy to support your development philosophy and by extension your development team.
Wow that is bad.Sounds a rush job.
Just a typical job if you ask me

$5.00 is lunch money at fast food. I'll buy it just to support the product line. I also would like fixed positions as an alternative for Anthys. It would also be great if game settings were added to it in the future.
I agree with fixed positions; I would also like wildlands in the world, and more fertile areas. It's a lot bigger but it feels like just a lot more nothingness in between cities.
I also wished boats could become an item to purchase but no luck. Instead of getting the bigger points of Civ - you have a giant, almost desolate world with less "sweet spots" than a randomly generated map. I guess a "Wide" Civ5 player would love having 30 towns, 12 conclaves and 4 fortresses that are each under par, "B level" cities. I like "Tall civilizations" and i like to get 2 towns, 2 conclaves, 1 fortress. Only, all the sub-par locations make it hard, nearly impossible.
Rushed? No, i found the map to have a lot of qualities, actually. There are a few wierd things that happen in naval combat, and a couple really good starting spots - if you ctrl+n enough times. (less times than a random map!)
However, overall, i am not disappointed. Surely better than Civ5 scenario maps/map packs.
So, some more feedback on the Anthys map. Finding Abeix (sp?) near a chasm was cool- defeating him and getting a bloody "Wooden Shield" was less so. Whenever I fought the boss type creatures on a randomly generated map, I rec'd more artifact-y style loot. Maybe it spoiled me, but getting an item I've had access to since virtually the start of the game was a let-down.
I would inagine that you could go into map editor and pull up that map and add fixed locations.
Well since I have 12 factions (Several custom) I was able to play all 12 on the map. Just select customize opponets and choose them all
Agree, defeating these wildlands bosses should always yield a big shiny item. Gives factions more incentive to race to beat them, rather than just clearing out wildlands, possibly opening the door for enemies to settle there!
Yea add me to the disappointed camp.
The Anthys map is empty - I mean remarkably so. No wildlands, very few shards and special resources with no way to increase this apparently. The sculpting of the map is sweet... but whats the point if its super boring to play because it is empty?
I'm not really upset - I mean it's only 5$. I'll still probably buy more DLCs. I'm actually more annoyed I wasted the time to try and play it - I could have just played large random maps!
I believe you can turn on normal spawns of resources and monsters by changing <SpecialMap>1</SpecialMap> into <SpecialMap>0</SpecialMap> in the map file.
I'm at work now so I can't test this, but please oh please let it be true
I wholeheartedly agree with "Anthys with all wildlands" pretty please. there's lots of room there.
edit: unfortunately specialmap=0 doesn't seem to to the trick
Worked like a charm for me. It took 3 ctrl-N's, but I got a decent start with a normal spawn of resources.
I love really large maps. Thanks, Heavenfall.
Worked for me too. This made the maps waaaaay better. Thanks so much!
That sounds like what I've been looking for! Question though- does it overwrite the hand placed things on the maps? IE, will there no longer be the named Wildling Shamans on certain camps?
Or does it add your settings, working around the hand placed props and features? Thanks!
I thought i saw talk of the people who pre-ordered WOM would get this map pack for free. Am i simply mistaken (which is perfectly fine) or am i missing something?
The idea with the Anthys map was that the Wild Land bosses were placed in different parts of the world. Adding Wildlands is something we can do very easily. I'll ask Paul what he thinks about switching those areas to Wildlands areas instead.
Frogboy has said that those who pre-ordered WoM would get FE and the first expansion for free. He's clarified that the "expansion" is the large content pack slated for early/mid 2013, not the DLC's (which are much, much smaller than the expansion will be). I'm pretty sure it was in one of his Elemental Dev Journal posts. (Here is the timeline, at least: https://forums.elementalgame.com/436082)
If you do that, can you leave the plain version there as well, so we'd have Anthys and Anthys_wildlands please?
