So i've played about a dozen games (and won them all!)
I've put some strategies that some players may not have come across yet, all surrounding TEC :
1. Marza's Missile Barrage is an absolute killer with ships, if you can get 3-4 Dreadnoughts with missile barrage, when you attack a massive enemy AI fleet of any given size, as long as you can encompass them in the circumference of 4 missile barrages and activate them simulaneously, everything, literally, except capital ships will die in less than a minute. Even carriers that have lots of health and heavy cruisers will die. A single missile barrage would wipe out (un-upgraded) frigs like LRMs, disciple vessels and assailants. 2-3 barrages will heavily damage all carriers (red health) 5-6 will usually put enemy caps at the brink of death, let your cap ship escorts mop them up.
This is especially useful if you're attacking a Vasari occupied system that has a starbase and massive fleet occupying it and if they're coming at you like bro, Use the barrages to obliterate the fleet and just concentrate fire on the starbase.
Watch out for enemy repair clouds from Vasari Sikara Carrier since they can negate the damage inflicted and sometimes a "Vicious" AI would try and get away from the range of the missile barrage.
2. Starbase with Trade port upgrades are huge, HUGE investment - when you can, place starbases EVERYWHERE, at every system asteroid belt, plasma clouds, gas giants, even put 4 starbases at a star or even at an allied planet ( you can place a starbase in an allies planet system even though your ally already has a starbase there). Upgrade them to the max with trade ports and you'll have a torrent of credit income. Each starbase with lvl 2 trade port produces 10 Credits per second, i played a 6 player - FFA (AI only) and i did exactly that i pulled in up to 400 Credits per second through starbases and trade ports in comparison with my miniature 40 credits per second through planet taxes. Use the massive credit income to buy Metal and Crystal via Black market and make more starbases, repeat for infinite money.
3. Sometimes, in some maps where you start off, you have very few planets nearby and most of them are just gas planets or Mag/Plasma clouds, since you have limited planets, it's a good idea to put starbase with lvl 2 ship factory behind your main line of defence, starbases produce at an alarming rate with lvl 2 upgrades. saves on logistic slots. Better put the starbase at the edge of a gravity well and set a rally point at one of your assembly points, that way, the ships you produce can jump ASAP as soon as they come out - upgrade trade port to lvl 2 as well.
4. Vicious AIs build really big fleets, really fast..they usually reach max ship population in an hour, depending on size of map, they also like to gather a tonne of ships outside a star system and send a scout every minute at a system they want to invade to determine if they can overpower you. A fully upgraded starbase with 20 Guass platforms and repair bays will hardly guarantee the security of a planet from Vicious AI - they cut through your starbase and all the defences and take your planet. Also, build lots of anti-strikecraft, AI's love carriers.
Okay, time for my noobie questions
1. When enemy attacks and destroys your civilian ships, Refinery/Trade ships, does this disrupt your income? Does each ship produce a certain amount of resources?
2. Are Easy AI's really Easy? i have played a few FFA matches and i find an Easy AI pinning down a more "Harder" AI and taking there planets. On one occasion, an "Easy" sent 10 cap ships (all lvl 4) at my planet, funnily enough, they were all Jarrasul evacuators and demolished my planet.
3. Do AIs offer missions to pirates?
4. Does placing culture centres at your planet boost the allegiance of nearby planets you own and the one it is at?
5. How exactly, threatening is Insurgency? - Wiki says they spawn some ships and randomly attack planet. I've never seen any insurgents.
6. Sometimes my Cielo's and Hoshiko's don't auto-use their abilities.. i have to manually embolden my caps and manually issue repair orders, kinda annoying cause my comp gets a bit-laggy in big fleet battles, hard to micro-manage.
7. Is the "Finest Hour" an buff for the Kol Battleship itself or is it applied to nearby ships too
8. Do Novaliths fire at planets in other star systems?
9. Not a question but - anyone notice how small the Garda is..? it's got more armor than ships 4-5 times its size.
Oh and it seems that the starbase with lvl 2 trade ports product always 10.5 Credits per second and doesn't seem to be affected by a planet's population or allegiance and neither does culture hinder the trade ports performance. Is this true?
2. The primary difference between AI difficulties is how much they "cheat" with regards to income rates. Higher difficulties get higher income rates.
4. Culture centres cause that planet to start producing culture - planets where your culture dominates will have allegiance increase if you or an ally owns the planet and decrease if an enemy owns the planet.
5. Mostly insignificant by that stage of the game. A few defense platforms backed up by a repair bay can handle everything but the LRMs (which outrange the static platforms) and siege frigates (which will avoid the platforms to try to get a clear shot at the planet).
6. The delay becomes noticeable as the game needs to track more ships - it's simply the fact that the game needs to keep tabs on more ships and this takes more time as the number of ships grows.
7. Kol only.
8. Any superweapon can fire on any planet you've explored, plus other limitations depending on weapon. Novaliths and Kosturas can only target enemy planets, Deliverance Engine targets must have population (friendly or hostile).
1. Yes, it does and until a new ship is respawned (aka rebuilt) you have less income of that type.
3. Yes
4. yes but the effect decreases the farther away from the cultural center (by phase lane count) the planet is.
True.
Yup, one of the few great fleet killing abilities of the TEC (and the only one if not TEC Rebels), so use it!
They're also really expensive and take a while to pay themselves off. While its good against the AI, if you ever get into competitive PVP games putting to much money into trade ports and especially star bases means your enemy probably has a better fleet than you, which unlike the AI a human player will use it to try and kill you ASAP.
A little bit, but the destroyer also earns about 50 resources from that. So its probably more of a reward for destroying them then a punishment for letting them get destroyed.
Sometimes the AI is almost brilliant in Rebellion, sometimes its totally stupid. That's probably rare but I can't say I'm totally surprised.
Your allegiance will be boosted at any planet under the influence of friendly culture. Since culture spreads from any planet with a culture center, in theory 1 culture center can max out the allegiance of your entire Empire.
They're annoying, but its usually a heavy cruiser or two, a siege frigate, a light frigate and a long range frigate. Really they're only a threat to undefended planets, not really worth the level 8 tech.
I believe they do occasionally.
Itself. Though since it regenerates the ability cost in antimatter, you're basically getting the shield regeneration, AoE damage and reduced cooldowns for free.
Yes they can.
Its guns are all on the exterior though. Means the ship is probably mostly armor as it doesn't need a big reactor as it has no energy weapons.
sorry but I'm helping noobs out in many ways but this op just gave me cancer
ANS: Yes, income will drop when refinery and trade ships die. As more of these ships fall, income falls proportionately.
ANS: Compared with the same play style (i.e. easy aggressor vs normal aggressor), they are of a lower difficulty. It is likely that your example featured either an easy aggressor or researcher against a hard economist.
ANS: On the harder difficulties and sometimes even on normal, yes. I've been attacked by pirates and enemy fleets at the same time without the pirates ever turning on the enemy fleet, although thus far I've seen only TEC Rebel AIs do this.
ANS: Correct, culture spreads through the system, slowing proportionately as it passes through a gravity field.
ANS: Insurgency only takes effect it an enemy planet is in sway of your culture, i.e. negates enemy culture boost or reducing enemy allegience. Frigates spawned are generally few in number, and can be easily wiped out by modest defenses, but do provide a valuable distraction, especially the 1st time it happens, and forces the enemy to redeploy resources to defense.
ANS: The fleet AI controls ur ships to deploy abilities based on overall battle engagement as well as proximity to available target ships. This means that Cielo's will not spam Designate Target cuz the whole point of the ability is to focus fire on a few ships to destroy them quickly. Likewise, Hoshiko's will not spam repair cuz the damage sustained must exceed a certain threshold and the ship must be in reasonable distance.
ANS: Its only for the Kol.
ANS: Absolutely.
ANS: A hidden mechanic in the game is armor type and they come in a variety of classes e.g. heavy, light capital. The armor on a Garda gives it high defense against bombers and fighters, but leaves it highly vulnerable against any other attack ship. That high armor rating actually only really applies to aircraft, against ships the armor is actually poorer than the basic cobalt in reducing damage. See this thread for a full breakdown on armor types:

Ah, thanks for the answers and tips everyone.
So i played Vasari seriously the other day, and "wow" they're really strong, one of my Vortul Caps took out 30 Cobalts and 3 Kodiaks solo with Power surge on Autocast.
Initially, i hardly need to focus on economy, just build lots of ships and steal planets real fast. Unlike TEC where i focus alot into building trade ports. Vasari seem to be have a decent Metal and Crystal income but always short of money, when i play TEC, after an hour, i've got a tonne of Credits and too much of either metal or crystal, not that it's too much of a problem, i like burying AI under massive bounties and buying resources that i have shortages on.
Vasari's returning armada abillity is pretty good too, seems like Vasari's counterpart to TEC's Industrial Juggernaut. The Kostura cannon is real crazy too and looks EPIC!! - two of them firing at a planet seems to destroy all its stations, useful for killing enemy superweapons i guess?
I have to admit, Vasari ship designs aren't all that appealing, apart from their capital ships, their carrier, LRF, starbase, HC all look weird, Advent's ship look elegant, smooth and refined, TEC ships look boxy and sturdy. Just saying~
Oh i also figured that Economist AI are worthless at fighting, just like Unazaki said, increasing AI intelligence only increases its usefulness moderately, Agressors - well now, Aggressors are definitely a tougher AI to deal with.
Vicious AIs cheat alot... i was 1st in economy but when i look at end of game line graphs, the AI produced 11x more Credits than me through planet income..
Indeed, the Kortul is by far the hardest cap to kill in the game. However, while it certainly gets good DPS, its main use is to cripple Capitalships and Titans with its Disruptive strikes ability, which will drain antimatter and increase cooldown times. Since its a passive ability, it is extremely good at this. Jam weapons can also get you out of tricky strikecraft situations and its ultimate combos good with titan AoE abilities, or just a large fleet.
For the Vasari Loyalists RA is great for quickly getting reinforcements to a battle where their titan is fighting at, and they have more control over what ships they get. For the Rebels, it's not that good. While it may give a bit of a discount, most players prefer to control exactly what ships are in their fleets, not get them at random.
Well they are supposed to be alien and different looking, though I think the new Rebellion (non-titan) ships look a little to insect based. Still, as far as Aesthetics go I rate them as Advent > Vasari > TEC, but no one agrees on that. Even the tank in space Kodiak has its fans...
