So I really like this game eventho the playerbase is small. On Ico. Many of the new players dislike me because sometimes I kick them for better players. Some players I've played and tried to help and they ignore my advices and many of good players trying to give them advice aswell. This is sad but I know there is some people out there that want to learn. So therefore I'm making this thread.Earlier I've made a Daily replay thread, which I will continue with. There U can find replays from regular to skilled games and sometimes Highskilled. Now I'm gonna try to start a new 'project'Here noobs AND REGULARS can post their replays and ask for advice. At the moment the players that will review replays is Me, Ekko-Tek, Seleuceia and PlayerSlayer.Greg30007 will also do some occasional inputs and thoughts. So, now many of u new players think. "But how do I save replays and upload them?"So I've made a guide for you. Start of by going into Singe player mode. Start a game and press the menu button. Then Record and then check the box. Shown in the picture below. So, now Ur replays will be saved. They can be found in C:\Users\{name}\Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\AutoRecord-MultiPlayerSo, How u gonna upload them?I recommend using 2shared It's easy to use and it's fast. Then u just post the link in this thread and if there is anything specific u want to know/improve, ask for that. Otherwise say u want to improve ur general gameplay and someone of us will check it as soon as possible and write you a review. As for manners on ICO and how to behave to be more accepted amongs the regulars etc. See this thread here. by ProtoplazmMany new players come into games and they're like "GO START NOW GO START GO START GAME FFA? GO PLZ"This will get you kicked.
For you trolls who doubt the power of the VL titan...
Test 1: lvl 1 VL titan with 25 overseers (325 fleet supply) vs. 100 Kodiaks (1000 fleet supply)...points in hull and desperation...
VL titan levels after killing 5 Kodiaks (10 if you had another cap there, but I didn't)...
When the titan died, about 90 Kodiaks are left with an average hull of around 50%...
Test 2: lvl 2 VL titan with 25 overseers vs. 100 Kodiaks...points in hull, desperation, and weapons (4th point doesn't matter)...
VL titan levels after killing 8 Kodiaks...at which point now you get that juicy lvl 2 desperation...
When the titan dies, about 80 Kodiaks are left with an average hull of around 30%...
Test 3: lvl 3 VL titan with 25 overseers vs. 100 Kodiaks...points in hull, desperation, and weapons...
Titan walks away at lvl 8 and with nearly all its hull...didn't even need to use Maw...
Now some of you nay-sayers out there are probably like "But Sel, this is grossly unrealistic"....you're right, odds are no one is going to have 100 Kodiaks, which means they are even more screwed against the VL titan...more likely, they won't even have HCs (probably LFs or LRFs), which means their ships will die even faster to desperation...even if they did have that many frigates, you can bet the VL would then be able to field a lot more supporting fleet...
Corvettes are the worst thing to use since they are the most vulnerable to desperation...I have tried numerous times to corvette spam even low level VL titans to see if it works (since corvettes apparently are the titan counter in this game)...it doesn't....and if you think you can run once your corvettes take enough damage, micro phase jump will show you otherwise...
Of course there's always the bomber spam option...
Test 4: lvl 3 VL titan with 25 overseers (325 fleet supply) vs. 50 Aerias with 150 bombers (1000 fleet supply)...points in hull, desperation, and micro phase jump...
Titan walks away at lvl 8...now granted, after killing the carriers (still didn't use Maw) I had to micro phase jump to get away from the remaining bombers...but since they will all die anyway that's basically just some free XP I missed out on...
I can practically hear it already..."but Sel, a skilled player would break up their carriers into small groups"....yeah, and a skilled Vasari could have micro phased jump their ass out of there to a planet with an Orky and repair bays whenever they wanted to...they also could have been using a lot more than one third the fleet supply of the opposing force...throw in a few Kortuls with JW and some carriers with fighters, and the VL would still be in great shape....
I suppose some Advent lover would play the Repulsion card now...did I mention I didn't have any PM wielding kanraks or bombers?
The bottom line is that the VL titan is by far the hardest to "counter" (if that word is even appropriate)...you need overwhelming force...we are talking like 2 or 3 players tag teaming just the titan...having your own high level titans would help wipe out the support ships for the VL...of course, that's assuming your titans can withstand the Vasari bomber spam that all too often accompanies the VL fleet...and the odds of an Orky being involved are fairly high as well, even if the VL is on the offensive...
Bottomline is that the VL titan is the single closest thing to an "I win" button this game currently has...
Yes, it is true that you need to have a good early game to even get your VL titan....yes, it is true that you need skill to handle it properly...yes, it is true that other high level titans are pretty good...
But no other titan with its faction's support ships is as strong at lvl 1...no other titan has micro-phase jump, the ultimate "Get out of jail Free" card...no other titan has Maw (which I didn't even use in the above tests)...
That VL also get Orkies and Kortuls with JW is just insult to injury for the poor Advent and TEC blokes...
Since lvl 3 is essentially "high level" enough for the VL titan to absolutely dominate...if you are going to blame your teammates for feeding a titan to lvl 3, you would be the pinnacle of asshatry...
1750 XP is all that's needed to get a titan to lvl 3...to put things into perspective, 1600 XP is needed to get a cap to lvl 4 and heaven forbid if you ever let your enemy get one of those..and if the VL has a clear shot to the pirate base, who you going to blame then?
I LOL at 50 Aerias not been able to kill a lvl 3 titan with 25 overseers. You obviously do not know how to fight one. And no...someone that knows how to fight a VL Titan WILL NOT just use 50 Aerias, so your tests only shows some numbers but not something that a pro will use to counter a VL Titan.
However, I do agree that VL Titan is the most powerful Titan out of all of them. But like I said , VL is weak at the start...so if you are a better skilled A or T player than the VL player...you will still beat him before he can get his titan out if you know what you are doing.
The unfortunate scenario is that a pro VL player meets an average A or T player or the VL player is in eco spot. This is when the VL player may get unstoppable.
I just finished a game where I might have won if I decide to play on because I had a lvl 10 VL titan and strip researched and soon to be max out weapon research. Even though 2 of my teammates have left, I have basically destroyed 2 others as well. But I decided to leave the game as its late and I needed sleep anyway.
Oh...and i think i can hear ppl screaming ban VL next. So what do we have soon? 3 out of 6 races banned and maybe in future , only one race is left to play.
I'm not a big fan of banning something in a game unless its a bug. If you think a skill or race is overpower, use it by all means...nobody is stopping you. And if you can't use it as well...then pls don't cry to your mommy...
I shall defer to what I said before...
What would a skilled player have done in that situation? Well, for starters they would probably have spread their carriers out assuming they were on the defensive and had the time to do so...they probably would have also brought in some guardians with repulsion, though you'd have to spread them out as well to get any use out of them...we could also throw in an Advent titan (take your pick, doesn't matter) and some caps, though none of the Advent caps other than maybe Halcyons would have been that much use (with the carriers spread out, concentration aura is useless, so might as well go for more SC and TK push)....
But adding in a titan and caps and guardians, you are looking at easily 300 or so more fleet supply, for a total of 1300 or so...
Meanwhile, I used only 325 fleet supply, less than third of what the enemy was using (or 4th if you add in titan, caps, and guardians)...I could pick corvettes or sentinels, I could pick fighters and/or bombers, I could pick kortuls with JW, or a skirantra with repair cloud....hell I could even pick subverters and minelayers if I was really in the mood to micro...
I didn't even properly support the VL titan....if I had, no amount of good micro would have yielded victory for the aerias even if they had their own Advent support...micro phase jump means the titan can be anywhere it needs to, it can catch carriers, it can avoid enemy SBs or titans, and it can run if need be...the best case the Advent could hope for is to force the Vasari to retreat...so the VL titan walks away with some hull damage and having gotten lots of XP from fighters/corvettes/flak shooting down the bombers...that is still in the end a loss for the Advent and a win for the VL...if it were TEC, the situation is even more dire since their SC are weaker and they don't have guardians...
No other faction can come close to that killing power with their fleet, not even close...
As I've stated before, sure these tests were unrealistic...in reality the VL player could support their titan with all the fixings to counter whatever you throw at it...not only will the VL fleet be stronger, but it also can probably err on the side of being smaller as well...
There was a time in diplomacy when the Vasari were grossly OP even in the early game...dual skirantra starts were incredibly hard to counter because of OP scramble bombers....there were no corvettes back then, so LRFs were king and the illuminators suffered immensely as the worst of them (they hadn't had their frontal damage buffed yet)...
No one played Advent in skilled games other than some very diehard Advents who like a challenge...most games saw only TEC and Vasari, no Advent at all...with one race absolutely terrible and another race grossly OP, the game lost a lot of its appeal...quite simply, it just wasn't as fun...
When something is grossly OP, sure you can choose to play that faction and use that instrument...but it's not very fun...hosts have banned jumping Orkies (or VR altogether) and wail because including them simply wasn't fun...sure, everyone could have played VR or AR and been jumping Orky wail whores....
But where's the fun in that?
Poor game balance is never good for a game...it reduces the strategic variety in a game and it makes it less fun...I boggles my mind that you would encourage OP elements to be in a game....
PlayerSlayer right?
I would like it if you would watch a replay of mine. To see what I could improve, I would appreciate it.
Auqia plays Advert and he just showed how to defeat near max fleet lvl 10 VL Titan using Advert....and no the person playing VL was radioactive so you can't say that he dunno how to control.
The problem right now is that 90% of players do not understand VL Titan and thus do not know how to fight it.
There was hardly any VL players when i start playing this game one month ago. Everyone was into either Tec or Advert because of the disciple/Cobalt spam rush which used to kill most Vasari players. All the China players were telling me that all top players use Tec or Advert but I refuse to believe it. Then I came across ooloo playing and watched his replay to learn VL. And then I started killing Top players using VL after awhile.
Strategy games are all about discovering new strat and counters. Unless something is obviously unstoppable, it can be counter with the right strat.
Reply of game please ....
I don't mean to distract from your heated debate about vasari balance, but I still have two replays which I'd like someone to review.
