Apart from bloody Balmer the economist running a tech company...
I want to make one thing clear.. Windows 7 is the best operating system to have ever been released by Microsoft..
Windows 8 is the worst piece of shit in the whole history of microsoft and i can probably guess theres some kind of espionage thing going on where they convert all user hate mail about the new ui to positive reviews.
Anyway --i think this is the best for everyone because now we can all buy macs. Awesome!
I don't know what tech-enabled community you seem to think you have the "pulse" of, but I think you couldn't be more wrong with that statement. I guess time will tell....
Thing is, dozens upon dozens of tech industry commentators and critics have been saying that for a couple of years or more now, that Microsoft is a spent force, but MS didn't blink or waver from its course, just carried on quietly with its work and let hem bump their gums. Yeah, I think Microsoft has been planning for this era of Windows for some time now, and that those detractors will soon be proved comprehensively wrong.
If anything, Apple is the spent force, it just doesn't know it yet. But yeah, there are plenty of people calling IOS stale and behind the times, and others complaining about iPhone 5 lacking in feature that work since the dumping of Google products/services. Then there's those coplaiing about the mini ipad and how it is a far cry from being a miniature of the larger version. You've only got to google it to see that Apple is falling out of favour with the buying public, and that soon it will be struggling to keep its market shares in tablet and phone markets.

your two statements contradict each other.
so, if nobody hacked your account, why do you so often make false statements (and never provide a source)?
you should google the numbers after the iPhone 5 release.
they are doing so bad they are moving parts of the production back to the United States.
http://kottke.org/12/12/apple-to-make-computers-in-usa-again
and if you are googling look for "nokia bankruptcy" as well.
in my opinion both Surface and Windows Phone will end up as the Zune. some market share in the United States and globally irrelevant.
I like to eat spicy things i normaly enjoy a nice
habanero gulyás but then someone told me i should try some of the chilli that had N.jolokia instead of the habaneros mixed in... guess what- i did, but i didn´t know until i tried it.
Apple is only moving some production back to the US because it is just good business to do so. They are still making more money than MS.
Yeah, why do you contradict yourself so often?
The numbers may be impressive, but they are fairly irrelevant when one considers the level of after-sales customer disatisfaction, not only with the iPone 5 but the Mini iPad and the IOS/OS-X operating systems. Many Apple customers feel let down and betrayed by the company, so while the iPhone 5 may have done well, it's the the level of consumer discontent and it doesn't bode well for Apple's future figures/market share.
As for Apple moving production of certain devices back to the US, it sould have done that yonks ago, but I don't know that strategy will actually save it. The complaint is that IOS, OS-X and various iProducts are stale or are fast becoming so, and While Apple has launched 1000's of patents, it will be hard pressed jumping ahead of Samsung, Google and others with something that new and innovative it is breathtaking. That's usually a once in a lifetime thing, and Apple has had its 2 or 3 opportunities with its iPod, iPad, iPhone. Apple's cycle is over now and the law of averages says it is somebody elses turn... the history of economics says so.
Well hopefully Nokia can rise above its financial woes, but if not, it won't ruin my plans to purchase a Lumina 920... because mine has already been manufactured and will be available when I'm ready to buy.
You're entitled to your opinion, but I think you're wrong. True, Zune and Vista didn't do too well in their own rights, but this situation with Surface, W8 Phone and Windows 8 is somewhat different, in that MS has married 3 platforms under one singular operating system. I believe Microsoft has hit on a winner here, and with Skydrive as the universal storage and sharing platform syncing all networked devices, users will realise even greater potential and be more connected than they have ever been before.
Yeah, it is a good move on Apple's part to relocate production back to the US, but I wouldn't bet on it making more money than Microsoft, given that MS has many more fingers in many more financial pies.
From Forbes, talking just about the iPhone:
One Apple product, something that didn’t exist five years ago, has higher sales than everything Microsoft has to offer. More than Windows, Office, Xbox, Bing, Windows Phone, and every other product that Microsoft has created since 1975. In the quarter ended March 31, 2012, iPhone had sales of $22.7 billion; Microsoft Corporation, $17.4 billion.
This is my take on this now 9th page since the OP was created [it was a haiku about someone's displeasure with the Win 8 UI]. F Apple, F MS, F Droid F it all. You use what YOU use and like because that is your Effin prerogative. As a user of what YOU like, you do not need someone to impede on your liking. No matter what anyone says, if it works for YOU then YOU continue to use it. Stop wasting energy on trying to convince anyone else that what YOU like is what they should like. No matter how much data, statistics or anything else you waste time on convincing someone that product A is better than product B boils down to a waste. Live and let live. Do you work for Apple? Do you work for MS? Do you work for Google/Droid? Are you a shares holder? Why are you wasting so much of your time pushing a product? Dang! I am going to log off and not visit WC until Monday morning. Geez people, realize that Life goes on and it's a beautiful thing...
P.S. Just realized the OP creator has not uttered a single syllable since the creation. Looking at his/her username makes me realize his/her intentions have come to fruition. I hope he/she is somewhere sitting behind their keyboard laughing their ass off at all of us...Nah Night...
Oh well, I hope they enjoy it while it lasts, which according to history and changing trends, mightn't be much longer. Thing is, though, that's for just one quarter and seems to neglect some MS investments/businesses. While it mentions MS' core products, I didn't see anything in that Forbes clip about MS' other ventures... those profitable products and companies it has purchased.
See, that's the thing, isn't it, we can all find statistics and articles to support a particular train of thought, but at the end of the day there will always be information to disprove and/or contradict it. I could probably find something to support the argument that Microsoft's overall profit for 2012 exceeded Apples, but frankly, I couldn't be bothered. I'm confident that Microsoft will be the cream that rises to the top in 2013 -14. While Apple has been crowing publicly about its achievements and lapping up the accolades, Microsoft has been quietly working in the background towards a complete and integrated system that will leave Apple wanting and languishing in its wake.
Okay, so the OP has returned since creating the thread, and maybe there have been a few "my dick's bigger than your dick" things going on, but for the most part, there has been some interesting discussion and views shared here. What's wrong with that, may I ask?
Believe what you want. The only reason w8 looks like it does because some dimwit wanted to same UI across devices and therefor it has to be able to run on low power, low memory devices. So flat, square, and buttugly. For the rest it's just w7 with some minor tweaks.
Sales of the mobile devices are projected to be around 10% marketshare in 2016.
Long term, IDC predicts Windows-based tablets (including Windows 8 and Windows RT) will grab share from both iOS and Android, growing from 1% of the market in 2011 to 2.9% in 2012, on its way to 10.2% in 2016.

10%........
Their business model doesn't hold anymore. Once you lost your virtual monopoly you need to compete like any other. And that they never had to do before. Reason why they make blunder after blunder.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/12/04/open_and_shut_oracle/ this is about the same revenue stream that makes up MS main revenue.
Good luck with your toy, you'll need it.
nothing you just posted has anything to do with the price of future MS operating systems.
the look of Windows 8 is personal taste. it is very neutral, so i can't say wether it looks good or bad. i like it better than this for sure though.
like you i do not think that Windows Phone or the Surface will be a success story. i wonder why you think that they never had to compete? they are in the Phone business since many years. they entered the mp3 player market and failed. they entered the game console market and won.
It has everything to do with it. Seeing how their 'strategy' hopelessly failed they quickly dumped w8 on the market, and made it so easy to turn a trial version legal (including now Mediacenter), hoping that way they could gain momentum.
Which fails miserably. Luckily. Anyone who is still so extremely naive that the blackbox is not in the MS planning deserves all he gets. The smart money is on sitting this one out to see how MS tries to turn this disaster into a worthwhile product.
Maybe trying to make a worthwhile product rather then trying to maintain usurper profits would work.
petrossa you should go and get that patented "Blackbox" sounds kinda cool ! - i wonder if it´s the new app we get in the "Blue" update In fact you just inspired me to continue with this.
Nice. No the blackbox you have to pay for and isn't an app. It is a limitation in future generations of Windows on how you can install software. MSstore will be the only way, very handy. All application in one place. Great. All for the betterment of the userexperience ofcourse. As if a trustworthy unblemished company like MS would ever try to trick you.
Ofcourse MS controls what gets in the store and how much it costs, but i'm sure no real Windows aficionado will mind that. So you lose your freedom to install whatever you want when you want and how you want. Small price to pay for that excellent MSstore system.
YOU WILL ASSIMILATE
At some point all the MS-hate/ridicule doesn't look like anything other than anti-fanboi-ism. I can't decide who is worse.....the fanbois or the anti-fanbois.
The smart bet in anything business is to not close doors. This of course means to keep an open mind to as many technological paths as possible in order to choose what is right for you. I personally have seen a significant influx of requests in the last few months of customers wanting to incorporate or even completely move their operations to Win8 including the cloud/sharepoint integration etc. Several of those customers are chomping at the bit to use MS Surface along side Windows Phone8 in their environments even if they don't have Win8 on desktops yet.
I have seen a lot less MS ridicule in my professional circles of late, and not that I'm a fanboi or anything......but maybe that means my nay-sayer and hate-on-everything collegues are finally growing up and realising that ridicule can be directed at anything. More often than not we are better served just choosing what is right for us instead.
Me, either! I'm not a MS fanboi, but I do see the potential of what it is doing with the integration of platforms, and happen to like the idea.
I'm not so fond of Apple products and doubt I'll ever own one, but I'm not anti-Apple. No, it's more the cost and that there are more economical alternatives around that'll do the job. About the only way I'd own an Apple product is if one were gifted to me, and if I had a choice I'd opt for a desktop machine as I wouldn't want an iPod, iPad or iPhone, given I already have devices covering those needs.
You will like it until you can no longer install your favorite software because for some reason it is not MS approved and therefore not offered in the MS store being that the MS store will be the only way to install software.
For all of your anti-MS posting (eventhough you have been shown to contradict yourself even ) please tell us what software you use?
Do you not use anything MS? Or are some MS products exempt? Would you prefer MS keep things as "un-locked" as Google does which just so happens to invite malware into their apps/store (no wait....then you'd jump on the "bash-MS-cause-they-can't-keep-shit-secure" bandwagon)? So do you use anything Google? You do know they are trying to build a "knowledge-base empire".....(actually they already have) an empire which very much includes everyone's browsing habits and various other tidbits of personal data. Bad, bad Google.....they need to be spanked!
Seriously......computational needs (for the masses) as well as the locations in which and from which we expect to tap into our data or the greater connected world have changed so much in recent years is it really that unbelievable that companies like MS are looking to change with us? They should just all be spanked together......Apple, MS and Google........put in the naughty-room!
Did i just missunderstand what you´ve said ? As far as i undertood your saying that there will be no DVD based software anymore and that you will only be able to buy digital software through the app store?
It looks like that is where it is headed. I hope not.
Yeah, a lot of people are saying this, that MS will go the way Apple has, but for me that's just negativity and scare tactics by various ones who don't like the change of direction Windows has taken, or are simply afraid of it. This should be a time of wonderment and excitement, for we are on the cusp of some great technological advances in PC software and how it's used. However, there's the usual naysayers and merchants of doom, trying to shoot it all down, while desperately clinging onto that which is familiar and crying foul.
Anyway, I don't see it being the way for all software, because too many major players, Abobe, Corel, Nero, Acronis, just to name a few, will want control/autonomy over their own products. There are to many major corporations for MS to fight on this one, so no, I think smaller apps may come down to being available only in the App Store, perhaps, but that major software will remain as is... purchased from the developer and installed by the end-user as usual.
