Salted pork is a create, cheap item to use to heal your champs instead of going Life tree..but pork isnt kosher/Halal and thus I cant use it. Please change this so the items are culturally acceptable to every player. THanks
Maybe we should all have a class on Tolerance. And we could talk about our feelings and sing Kumbiya around a camp fire.
Ummmmm Pork. I think I'm going to have some thick pork chops tonight.
I am vegetarian please make it salted cabbage
I am anthropophagian please make it salted human !
Both Halal and the rules of Kashrut state it is fine to even eat pork if the other option is to die.
Good gosh now we have religious types forcing their disturbing views in games--is no place free from their oppression?
I can see it now the fight in court the separation of Church and game.
I am sorry OP but i really dislike religious people like you.
What if you're playing somebody who doesn't have Life (Heal) or Death (Drain Life) magic?
Well I either die or when the combat and sit in my city for a few turns. I was either buffing/debuffing an enemy or offensive spells at them no time for potions and the like. And when I first started playing WOM I did not know what the Salt pork was for because it was not labled so I sold it. And selling it became a habit even after I found out what it did. And to tell you the truth there was really no need for it. Either you overwelmed the bad guys or you were one or two shoted to death so no real time for healing. AS I said I did use some spell healing but it was rare in battle.
I find anti-semitic remarks offensive, which includes hostile "I'm gonna be an ass because I hate you for your beliefs" remarks which I've seen several of in this thread and I'm not a Semite -- in fact, I'm an atheist.
However, I do find a demand or insistence that a game meant for everyone should censor itself to fit the tolerances of one group. If pork offends you to the point you cannot even fictionally portray your avatar consuming it, then the answer is simple: don't. What you choose for yourself to eat or refrain from eating is your own personal freedom. The fervent insistence that no one else should be allowed to vary from your beliefs is the motivation behind the world's atrocities -- its what drove the founder of the Lutheran church, for example, to write that all decent Christians should slaughter Jews and many objective historians ascribe as being a source for Hitler's anti-semitism. The Crusades, the Inquisition, the Conquistadores, the witch trials ... history is replete with the blood of innocents due to such intolerance.
Insisting the game makers remove X due to your religious beliefs is no different than, say, vegetarians remove all meat consumption from the game.
Insisting X be removed from a game because it is against your beliefs is unreasonably intolerant. That does not excuse, however, the counter-intolerances I've seen made in retribution to your original post.
I never claimed to be tolerant of trolls, ignorance, or those who attempt to force their beliefs on me and others. I am actually very intolerant of all three of those.
I'm one of those who think the OP's request is silly. But this is a bit of an overreaction I think.
Diabetes does not cause an allergic reaction. The pancreas is unable to produce the insulin required to process sugar in the bloodstream. This can be rectified through diet (for Type II Diabetes) or injection of insulin (for Type I Diabetes). This does not prohibit the intake of any type of food. Also I would note that diabetes is a medical condition, not a choice like the other examples being discussed.
This PSA brought to you by Stuie_. We now return to this otherwise non-sensical thread.
I find hate too strong a word but i do dislike zealots of any religious stripe trying to force their views down other peoples throats. I do not believe in any religion but i do not go around telling them to quit their religion because it or something in it might offend me and i expect the same tolerance from the religious groups towards my views.
Edit: the quote was supposed to be from Chibiabos==sorry for confusion.
Still holding..............
I think he meant that the fruit, having a lot of sugar, would be bad for diabetics. Not an allergic reaction, but to be fair, I didn't take too much time in reading any of it.
I'm not allowed rape my slaves in this game which is unbiblical.
Hence this game is offensive to me.
But being serious and pretending the OP isn't a troll.
In the world of elemental there is no covenant and no chosen people or prophet; noone is saved and noone is damned. Hence there is no injunction to avoid eating animals with certain shaped feet.
I wonder if the Iru have any special rules about eating things. I can't remember from the novel.
I can respect another culture. I can't respect another culture insisting that my culture conform to theirs. That's what I find ridiculous. It has absolutely nothing to do with his personal beliefs.
@Chibiabos
I find no reason to be tolerant or change my behavior to appease the religious beliefs of others when they interfere with my life. Believe whatever the fuck you want, but don't ask me to pray, don't ask to change how I dress, don't ask me to not watch a movie, or read a book, or change a video game to appease your imaginary friend.
If the OP is not a troll then he is a hypocrite and fails to properly understand the point of such rules in his own religious tenants. If what he posted is how he truly feels then he needs to uninstall the game. Failing to do so causes him to lose all credibility. He is definitely taking the letter of the law to the extreme on this particular matter and failing to understand the spirit of the law. He is failing to see the bigger picture.
The Jewish Sadducee and Pharisees of biblical times acted much like this while committing numerous sins, because they were able to make excuses about not breaking the law on various technicalities. However they would severely persecute those who they perceived to be directly offending the law. Of course those who pointed out such hypocrisy were stoned to death or they had the Roman occupiers crucify them.
On a side note:
Have you ever played with your toys as a kid and have your G.I. Joe's, legos, or whatever do make choices that you personally would not do? Did you not have villains and heroes playing out some crazy story you created as you went along? Isn't that the point of play, to experiment with decision making in an entertaining way that you yourself would never actually do most likely? To have dangerous experiences in a safe and non threatening way? To explore possibilities? Is the act of playing games really any different?
Well I'm no religious expert, so I will just say this. If it makes you feel any better, that salted pork is just ones and zeroes. As an in-game item you're free to mod it to suit your own particular preferences. Too bad we can't do the same so easily with real food.
I'm sure Stardock is loving this thread since they plan on adding "religion" to the second expansion. "Faith" will be a new resource and they will call it Fallen Enchantress: Gods & Kings.
P.S. Xia, will you please wear jeans and a T-shirt for me?
If you were serious about your religion you would have your characters behave completely immorally.
God doesn't exist (or make himself known) in these fantasy worlds so everyone would be utterly corrupt; with no prophet and no bible or quran there is no way to know right from wrong.
In fact you'd be blaspheming by behaving according to law in this game. Complaining about it means you are surely bound for hell.
I'm guessing (hoping?) this is a joke? LOL
