Fallen Enchantress got top billing today on Valve’s Steam despite not using Steamworks. I plan to write at some length our experiences with Valve over the past year. The short version is that Valve behaves with the kind of enlightened benevolence that earns the respect and trust of those who work with them.
My personal opinion is that the independent nature of Valve (they’re privately owned) has allowed them to foster a company culture whose ethics and earnestness are several steps above the average in our industry. It’s been a real delight to work with them.
I'd be perfectly fine with GCIII being released the way FE was.
I just don't think it would happen, Stardock has made it clear that there are issues on their end- and that putting things on Steamworks is easier for them. I just don't want Steamworks mandatory to play any Stardock game (installing and updating I'm ok with, if it does that it's no different than Impulse, which I was fine with, so it would be hypocritical for me to be railing on that.)
any info on howe is FE selling?
I'm not certain yet. If I had to guess, I'd say we're at around 50,000 total so far. Not bad but not great.
The lack of reviews is definitely hurting us. Given WOM, we really need a lot of reviews and word of mouth so that people know this is a really good game.
Something is borked with the OP in chrome. The pic is overlapping the pages 1st post causing strange effects to the 1st posts. Possibly from using a div tag? Maybe add a few blank lines of text to the text block?
BTW, great to read you're using Steam to distribute but not using Steamworks. I would have no problem buying through Steam if SW was not required to run the game.
