Greetings!
Today’s the big day. In fact, 2 hours from now 1.0 will go live.
Now, to save yourself pain and aggravation please do the following: UNINSTALL the beta. Completely. That also means go into the my games\fallen enchantress directory and rename it to something else (or delete it entirely). Edit: ensuring that \program files (x86)\stardock games\FallenEnchantress is also cleaned out is a good sanity check from after the beta.
Don’t take any chances. Start from a clean setup.
Only if you purchase through Steam.
What I did worked for folks who are having problems.
so... why is the 1.0 called.. .
"fallen enchantress upgrade digital"?!
Worth noting. This is NOT at:
<user>\My Games\Fallen Enchantress
but at
<user>\My Documents\My Games\Fallen Enchantress
Where <user> is by default C:\Users\YourUsername\
I know I'm getting the full game today, so why do I feel sad and a little chocked up.
Thanks for the Tip, Taltamir! My experience was similar to yours (as to the location of the extra directory files). Also, I found, not 1, but 3 files in: <user>/My Documents/My Games/Fallen Enchantress
that were appropriate to manually remove. They were a (seemingly) general Fallen Enchantress file, a Beta2 type file, and a Beta 5 type file. I believe that has left me with a Clean Slate!
(I think that many users may have slightly different experiences, based upon their specific Operating Systems, whether or not they downloaded Mods, and various other vagaries of their computers and/or their regular practices.)
Something that I found if you are having difficulty use the IOBit uninstaller to remove the older versions of the game using power uninstall and make sure you do a final powerful scan at the end of the uninstall, it will remove and stray registry files that can cause that NO$KEY error. It took me two days to get that fixed. Hope you guys are having fun.
And when you do an uninstall, run a registry fix program like Glary's to get any errors out. Couldn't hurt to restart afterwards as well. Just a friendly tip.
I use Revo uninstaller which takes care of that. While I do not relish uninstalling everything, I guess I understand. Some pain now means hopefully none later.
And I say to you "You don't run my life buddy BOY!" I'll complain as much as I want when I want and I'll give a LOW review score if I choose to because of having to redownload and Reinstall because I wasn't WARNED about it until just recently. Otherwise I WOULDN'T have kept up with the BETA downloads. So guess who can 'GET OVER IT NOW" buddy BOY! hahahahah
Is this the case for Steam as well? Uninstall first? Via Steam itself, then find the directory to manually remove?
As a general rule, I would suggest never runing registry fix / cleanup applications. Unless you know what you are doing you can cause serious problems!
Just use the application uninstaller, reboot after uninstallation (if the product might have files in use - unlikely with a game), and then run the new installer.
The self-entitlement is strong with this one.
Steam is still shipping 0.992
So, we don't get steam keys if we've owned the game for a while? I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but I really like steam.
Correct. If you got FE free from Stardock or purchased direct from Stardock then you do not get Steam keys.

Never mind, figured it out... d'oh...
No stronger than the one telling ME to "Get Over It". I bought the Collectors edtion of this game 2 years ago paid over $80 for it so I expect some QUALITY service amongst those that only paid a paultry sum for it. Btw it's still sealed in the plastic wrap and I hope my pewter dragon is still inside. Figure I'd sell it as some antique ancient collectors item when I'm old and gray.
Well War of Magic is a different game.
I don't know about the other two.
Yeah, entirely my fault... even went back and edited the message because I relaized my mistake. To show support to SD, I purchased a version from Steam as well as the free version from pre-ordering WoM. BTW, thanx Brad!
Umm never beta much have you. This is common in these situations with the exception of MMO betas going from beta to live.
And as far as the download lets face it there are not thousands trying to download at the same time like in a MMO so I thing it will be ok. Besides just hold off until tomorrow before download or let it download over night.
3mb per sec is slow for you?
Pfft, if a download here reaches 250kb/s we celebrate! And I am not complaining.
God, first world problems.
Update: Just to provide one Beta tester's Download experience with v 1.00.0 . After de-installing the Beta(s), and starting with a clean slate, it took about 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete the download. I started a little before 3PM Eastern time, and finished a little after 5PM Eastern time. (I know that some folks claimed download times well under an hour -- Lucky them ! -- but on my (admittedly) not very robust InterNet connection, it took quite a bit longer.) The program is 3.48 Gigabytes. I was downloading initially at the rate of just over 800 KB per second, but the rate gradually slowed to about 450 KB per second. I don't know if this slowdown was due to more users accessing the Stardock server as the afternoon dragged on, or if my computer was just getting tired, and slowing down as a result. After the download, installation and configuration took perhaps another 20 minutes.
On the Plus Side, after this joyful passage of some 2 hours and 40 minutes, Fallen Enchantress fired right up, and appears to be working beautifully. I do think it is possible that folks who wait a day or two may find the whole process to be significantly faster/easier, after the initial rush of some 80,000 rabid Beta testers and Early Purchasers has subsided. Good Luck, All !
There was no application uninstaller in my case, I looked for that first.
I tried other stuff first, but I have had enough problems with this beta installing previous versions that I felt it was necessary.
Never had these problems with Impulse/previous SD games.
ThAnks a lot ! Being with all of you for this beta has been an awesome experience ! The 1.0 is fantastic and I look forward the success of FE and the future addons already !!! I can't say how much I love FE definitely the best game of this slowly ending 2012 !!!
