Chris Roberts--the primary creator of Games such as Privater, Wing Commander and Freelancer is back in action!.
FROM THE CHAIRMAN:
Welcome!
If you’ve made it here, you probably know who I am. Maybe you have heard of Wing Commander and its sequels, or perhaps Strike Commander, Privateer or Freelancer.
If not, you’re still welcome!
I grew up making video games. I sold my first game at the age of 13 and created Wing Commander when I was 21. But 10 years ago, at the height of my career I took a break. Not because I stopped loving or playing games but because I had become frustrated with the limits of the technology at the time to realize my vision.
I decided to pursue my desire to create detailed worlds and tell sophisticated stories in film.
I always said the moment I became interested in making games again was when I was going to come back.
With the power of today’s computers and the reach of the internet I finally feel I have the tools to build the connected experience that I always dreamed of. A world that would be more satisfying and richer than any film I could work on.
With films you tell stories but with games you create worlds.
If you’ve played my games, you’ll know that’s what I love to do.
I’m here to tell you that I have been working on something for just under a year, something that embraces everything that my past games stood for but takes it to the next level.
I hope you’ll be as excited by it as I am.
My new endeavor is still in its early stages but I invite you to take the journey with me.
If you register below you’ll become an insider that will not only give you early access to the game’s website and forums, but you will also get the opportunity for rewards and privileges that no one else will get. It’s my way of showing how important your early involvement and support is.
The full announcement will be at 10am Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5) on the 10th day of the 10th month of this year.
My name is Chris Roberts.
And if you would indulge me I would like to create a world for you.

The link is here (and "42" is what will get you in if you get stuck). Go enroll and let this guy know you are interested--this is the original scfi game maker who broke all the rules and did the things no one else would.
I would pay for this game in advance without even knowing what it was.
I believe the link gives you the chance to be an alpha-beta tester for the game during the next two years. I'd highly recommend it.
I also think it would be fantastic if Stardock and Ironclad sent him a note of support (I'm just sayin'...)
I didn't mod the hanger module for the flight level to fly and look at every craft... oh no...
At least until the code is locked down.
I am sitting in my hangar pretending I am shooting at Stant.
He has died SO many times.
Show the hell I will.
You see, that's the difference between pretend and reality. When you're pretending, you win, when it's real, I win.
Hey. In case anyone here might be motivated...I am offering a Star Citizen bribe....details here.
And search your feelings, Stant...you know this to be true.
The only truth I know is that my... <ahem> Hangar... Is bigger then yours.
Yessss...I prefer a target rich environment.
Hahaha! You live a wonderful fantasy life... We're gonna have to hang out at one of these CitizenCons or other random events put on by CIG.
So..... Anyone participating in the anniversary sales this week?
Sinperium, you'll be happy to know that your imaginary target rich environment got richer in targets this weekend. Added another Connie and a couple more Lancers Planning on upgrading them all in the future to the as yet unspecified variants. Oh, and a Greycat 'cause walking from one end to the other is just becoming a pain.
Bison, I need a driver. Hope you're not afraid of going really fast and jumping over stuff and through loops...
If you aren't ready to jump on a dime you aren't ready for this sector of the galaxy!
Are Class B legal in interstellar space..? Ah frak, who cares. Just toss me the keys...
*tosses keys*
No license required. BTW, I just spent an hour in the Greycat intentionally missing the ramps and smashing into the crates and canisters as fast as I could, sometimes sliding to the side while doing it, just to see how far I could launch them through the air, or hitting a ramp on an angle so I do a barrel roll and smash the top couple of layers and send them flying while tumbling over the rest of them as the stack collapses. Waaaaaay too much fun. You're definitely trying that out. I'm eager to see that happen from the passenger seat so I can be looking backwards or to the side when things go flying, just so I can see them bounce off of other things. Maybe one day I can put live fuel canisters out there to watch them explode when they hit the wall! OH! Maybe replace one of the bowling pin canisters with a full can to discourage leaving 7 - 10 splits. That'd be so awesome. *BOOM!*
I'm gonna end up dying a lot, I can tell already. Not because Sinperium is having delusions of grandeur, but because of doing reckless crap like I always do. I can honestly say, there will be some point in time, probably several dozens of times where I say, "Okay, you pick, 350R or M50, I'll take the other, let's see who get's through this asteroid field (from it's widest point) the fastest, or let's get to the edge of RADAR range from each other and play a game of full throttle/afterburner chicken."
Okay, seriously, who's up for a game of afterburner chicken? First one to flinch get's booed and taunted mercilessly.
Pew Pew!
I see Boshimi volunteered for the first round of Afterburner Chicken. =D
Let's just say that not having a job is severely limiting my budget. I received my Bachelor's in Computer Information Systems, a programming degree, in June and started on my Master's in July, but I haven't been able to find an entry level programmer position yet.
*nods* Income is a definite issue. If you are able to find around $500 likely you can get a rig that is only missing a mid-to-high tier graphics card to be capable of running the game. You should be able to run it on low with the only piece of improvement really being the graphics. Lastly, Stardock usually has openings, have you checked there?
I technically have the money to get a decent computer for such a purpose, or to at least get a decent graphics card and some more RAM for my current computer, but I kind of don't want to use those funds until I have a source of income that is more substantial than mowing my grandma's lawn and shoveling her driveway. Stardock is a little bit out of my way, and until I finish my Master's, I would prefer not to have to move for a job, unless it is a really attractive opportunity. Working at Stardock would honestly be a dream job.
I'm not a member so I can't really get in to offer this suggestion.....but I'm hoping someone on this thread will carry the torch:
With all the new worlds being developed for Star Citizen, I truly hope there is the occasional Dyson Sphere.....maybe from and ancient alien race.
That is all.
Thanks.
That would be neat actually!
They have said they don't expect to have one--but that's for the short term. Down the road, who knows?
I'm tempted to jump into this, but I think I'll wait a bit longer.
my thoughts exactly.
In many similar way as I was hoping for LH to carry the proverbial torch for MoM, I also hope that Star Citizen will carry the proverbial torch for Privateer.
I'm REALLY hoping for the jump gate system that was used in Privateer. It really gave the player a sense of the depth of space and the need to PLAN accordingly.
