Chris Roberts--the primary creator of Games such as Privater, Wing Commander and Freelancer is back in action!.
FROM THE CHAIRMAN:
Welcome!
If you’ve made it here, you probably know who I am. Maybe you have heard of Wing Commander and its sequels, or perhaps Strike Commander, Privateer or Freelancer.
If not, you’re still welcome!
I grew up making video games. I sold my first game at the age of 13 and created Wing Commander when I was 21. But 10 years ago, at the height of my career I took a break. Not because I stopped loving or playing games but because I had become frustrated with the limits of the technology at the time to realize my vision.
I decided to pursue my desire to create detailed worlds and tell sophisticated stories in film.
I always said the moment I became interested in making games again was when I was going to come back.
With the power of today’s computers and the reach of the internet I finally feel I have the tools to build the connected experience that I always dreamed of. A world that would be more satisfying and richer than any film I could work on.
With films you tell stories but with games you create worlds.
If you’ve played my games, you’ll know that’s what I love to do.
I’m here to tell you that I have been working on something for just under a year, something that embraces everything that my past games stood for but takes it to the next level.
I hope you’ll be as excited by it as I am.
My new endeavor is still in its early stages but I invite you to take the journey with me.
If you register below you’ll become an insider that will not only give you early access to the game’s website and forums, but you will also get the opportunity for rewards and privileges that no one else will get. It’s my way of showing how important your early involvement and support is.
The full announcement will be at 10am Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5) on the 10th day of the 10th month of this year.
My name is Chris Roberts.
And if you would indulge me I would like to create a world for you.

The link is here (and "42" is what will get you in if you get stuck). Go enroll and let this guy know you are interested--this is the original scfi game maker who broke all the rules and did the things no one else would.
I would pay for this game in advance without even knowing what it was.
I believe the link gives you the chance to be an alpha-beta tester for the game during the next two years. I'd highly recommend it.
I also think it would be fantastic if Stardock and Ironclad sent him a note of support (I'm just sayin'...)
Count me in!
Count me in as well, Sinperium!
I've joined a fleet (clan) called Brown Coats, after Firefly of course.

I don't normally do the clan/guild thing but the Brown Coats seem to have a philosophy similar to what I see myself as doing in game so I went for it. Easy enough to back out later obviously. What I like is they are setting it up as a group of Independent Captains without any real structure or rules and such. I like that. Don't know if I'll go the citizen route or not. One of the guys actually bought the Corvette and the plan is to use that as a base of operations, safe place to dock, refuel and the like. Then get a space station later if that's possible in the game.
The basic tennets are thus:
Who are the Brown Coats? Why we are just Big Damn Heroes. Or not…Sometimes we might not be carrying the most legal of cargo, but we actively seek to ensure we are not hurting plain simple folks. We won’t traffic in human slavery, nor harmful drugs. (..) Brown Coats will also be explorers, traders, couriers and white hats riding to the rescue of those in need or suffering depredations of pirates.
Heads up that Kickstarter pledges have starting showing up on accounts at RSI so the merging has begun.
*Shameless Bump*
If you haven't looked in a while, you really should.
I'm waiting for my cit card and t-shirt to come in the mail.
Useless trinkets... Hope they comfort you as you drift through space after I've destroyed your ship.
I'm prepared to have a long line of relatives who will seek vengeance!
I won't be easy to deal with in a Hornet... Be ready to drift in space instead of me.
Hah! Then I'll have to destroy them as well.
I like your moxie, but victory will be mine. Civilian models are nothing compared to MilSpec Hornets. Muahahahahaha!
I would seriously buy this, but I would probably need a new computer in order to play it, so I haven't.
We're all probably going to need new computers to play it, but release is still 2 years out, so you may as well get the starter package now (the best benefit is the lifetime insurance on your ship so you will always have at least one) and put a little bit of money off to the side in a jar or something every so often and start saving up. It probably won't pay for the whole thing, but it'll bring the cost down when you're finally ready.
Here's what I do. I've got tubs for pocket change sitting in my living room. It says "spare some change?" on it. Everyone who comes over to hang out, party, drink, whatever usually throws whatever pocket change they have in there. When they're close to full, I take it to my sister-in-law (who works at a bank) and she converts all of the change into funds and deposits it into my secret play money bank account that no one who lives near me knows about. You'd be surprised at how much you can make in a year just from a few weekly deposits by several people.
Between Star Citizen, Planetary Annihilation, and 0 A.D., I am very interested in several games coming out in the near future.
I also hate buy things when I don't know the system requirements.
Okay, well, I have one of each currently available ship so I guess if you decide to play later, I'll probably need a good copilot to take control of my Constellation to give me an alibi while me and my Cutlass are busy harassing Boshimi and Lavo.
*Edit*
At least until I get my Bengal Carrier, then everyone will have to park their ships in my hangers while we fly to some unsuspecting system to take over in the name of -Ue_Carbon. *Huzzah!*
I'm not going to be alone, nor do I intend to be a pirate hunter... I and my guild will go around forming ourselves into a formidable force of sorts and get ourselves a 'roid field or something else to call home. If anything Stant, we could quite easily work together, or at least tolerate each other.
Let the "vadering" sessions begin. You will be the first poor bastard that see's "Killed by Major Stress" on his monitor.
Ha! All I am planning on being is something like a Han Solo (Shipping Unlimited of course) of the galaxy. Betcha i can run in terror faster than you can catch me.
Alright--who all has sneaked in and not told anyone?
I'm making a list you spreadsheet pansies.
Hey all!
Been playing sins for some time now (never online) but never got around to posting on the forums until right now
I wanted to welcome everyone over to Star Citizen! The old website will be going down tomorrow at noon CST and will be down for 24 hours until the new site goes live. This weekend on the 28th Cloud Imperium Games will be having a 24 hour live stream fundraising event which you can participate in at the new website. Lots of new information on the development of the game, a new flyable ship will be shown, and tons of other goodies as well.
Just wanted to say I love Sins and the new DLC. I will continue to support this game until I die I always like to put a good word in for Sins with the Star Citizen community when ever I can
Hope to see you all over there!
You may not see me Ty, but I'll see you in the cross hairs of my 325A, 350R, Aurora LX, Avenger, Caterpillar, Constellation, Cutlass, Freelancer, Gladiator, Hornet, M50, Retaliator, or Starfarer.
I have to admit, Chris Roberts and his team are doing their thing with Star Citizen. They retooled their website and it's just impressive. Those of you who missed their 24 hour livestream event they were doing, here's a highlight of Chris showing off one the ships in the game. Also, check out the vid for the Origin 300, this must be the Lexus of spacecraft in the game...
Damn!
The event was a huge success. We just hit 12 million dollars raised! I'm super stoked for this game
Those animations G_Bison posted of the Constellation, blew my mind. I never thought this game would ever be possible.
With 18 more months of development to go and those ships already looking deadly and sexy as hell... Oculus Rift here I come! (Once I'm happy with development progress on that device.) Now if only the Holodeck was a real thing, I'd end up dying of starvation because I'd never leave.
+1 Ditto!
