Chris Roberts--the primary creator of Games such as Privater, Wing Commander and Freelancer is back in action!.
FROM THE CHAIRMAN:
Welcome!
If you’ve made it here, you probably know who I am. Maybe you have heard of Wing Commander and its sequels, or perhaps Strike Commander, Privateer or Freelancer.
If not, you’re still welcome!
I grew up making video games. I sold my first game at the age of 13 and created Wing Commander when I was 21. But 10 years ago, at the height of my career I took a break. Not because I stopped loving or playing games but because I had become frustrated with the limits of the technology at the time to realize my vision.
I decided to pursue my desire to create detailed worlds and tell sophisticated stories in film.
I always said the moment I became interested in making games again was when I was going to come back.
With the power of today’s computers and the reach of the internet I finally feel I have the tools to build the connected experience that I always dreamed of. A world that would be more satisfying and richer than any film I could work on.
With films you tell stories but with games you create worlds.
If you’ve played my games, you’ll know that’s what I love to do.
I’m here to tell you that I have been working on something for just under a year, something that embraces everything that my past games stood for but takes it to the next level.
I hope you’ll be as excited by it as I am.
My new endeavor is still in its early stages but I invite you to take the journey with me.
If you register below you’ll become an insider that will not only give you early access to the game’s website and forums, but you will also get the opportunity for rewards and privileges that no one else will get. It’s my way of showing how important your early involvement and support is.
The full announcement will be at 10am Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5) on the 10th day of the 10th month of this year.
My name is Chris Roberts.
And if you would indulge me I would like to create a world for you.

The link is here (and "42" is what will get you in if you get stuck). Go enroll and let this guy know you are interested--this is the original scfi game maker who broke all the rules and did the things no one else would.
I would pay for this game in advance without even knowing what it was.
I believe the link gives you the chance to be an alpha-beta tester for the game during the next two years. I'd highly recommend it.
I also think it would be fantastic if Stardock and Ironclad sent him a note of support (I'm just sayin'...)
Any interest in the MISC MAX? Less pew pew, but more power (power plant can be upgraded 1 extra time over the others) and thrust (4 main thrusters as opposed to 2 on the others), with an additional 112 cargo unit capacity over the base model (more over the other variants).
You'll have to come check out the merchantman when it becomes available. The images of it so far look amazing.
And supposedly the Xi'An Scout (aka the Khartu) will be on sale again for one week, starting tomorrow, Friday, June 20th, so if you're looking to pick up a little alien tech for the PU, this would be an opportunity. The concept art is fantastic.
EDIT: And now a video too.
That was impressive!!!!
I learned how to be deadly in the Hornet, World War 1 style. Last night I caught a case of the no HUD bug and still made it to wave 12 despite not having RADAR, shield/weapon/targeting info, damage levels, control over power output, missiles, weapon grouping, etc. Just had straight ahead cross-hairs and Bitching Betty to keep me company. Wish I got it on video. Would have made combat pilots everywhere proud.
Tonight, with a HUD, I just slaughtered my way through the waves.
Bison, we're gonna have a whole lot of fun flying together chasing down Sinperium.
Makes it more fun not having a cockpit. Seat of the pants, ya' know.
...and you won't have a cockpit because I'll have shot it away.
I'm tempted to say that it's called a bridge, not a cockpit, and with the great and mighty Bison as my second in command the only thing you'll be shooting is your wad to the nurse giving you a sponge bath because the space walk you just took left you as helpless as a baby... But that might spoil the surprise.
Call me, "The Bridge Buster".
Hah, you know well enough you can't give yourself a callsign, peashooter. Don't disappoint me when we finally get to battle it out. I want a challenge so my victory has meaning.
"Goose is dead."
Time for some cooked goose.
I'm still pissed that i cant run the damn game. New PC aint happening fast enough
Really Major?
I woulda thought you haad a cookin' system.
And why did I never get a GalCiv sticker!?
Don't stress... um... Stress.
What's the time frame looking like?
The updated patch 12.4 means citizen numbers up to 200,000 can now take part in multiplayer, not just the swarm AI. That's a big jump overnight where it was only to 60k.
200k targets--how long will that take me I wonder...
The world may never know until you manage to finally kill at least one...
Can't wait for private matches to be a thing. 'Cause then... We settle this.
Several months at the very least. Need to save up at least a grand to get a "decent" setup.
My laptop "was" umm "smoking" when i first got it. Now its smoking because of overload lol. Basically its not DX-11 capable, and i cant upgrade the gpu. Nor can i toss it out a window (as tempting as it may be), because id be without a PC period if i did that lol.
Hmmm. Well, fortunately we're only at dogfighting at the moment, and I believe fps is the next item on the reveal block, so the good stuff like trading/mining/salvage are still some ways off.
You must earn the right to kill me by catching me in the PU. Arenas are for show off losers.
Oh I will since I have an M50 and 350R ready for action, but until there is a PU, Arena is where you will explode repeatedly.
Nah lets give Sinperium the false sense of security... I just want to see his face (through the glass of his cockpit) as i ram his ship screaming SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
Hah, a'ight.
The vid looks great, but looks way better than what I've seen on the official gameplay vids , looks to me they'll have a lotta optimizing to do, not that I didn't expect that of course, it's normal in game production, but we're talking about Crytek if I'm not mistaken.. Baah, I'm only ranting 'cause, the framerate on my PC is really low :/
Lol, Major. That video is a frightening demonstration of how much free time you have.
Ramming is for sissies.
