Played my first real Sins game in about a month (had minidump issues prior to 1.o4)
Fleets need a expensive Titan killer, or it becomes I need to get my Titan to kill yours..
Maybe as an upgrade to existing ship or a new missile type? I know bombers are suppose to work well, but that means every fleet now needs a fleet of carriers to survive?
There are a lot of ways to kill an enemy titan. Bombers are just a good example, yet a fleet composed of a lot of Heavy Cruisers and supporting frigates should also do the job.
I don't think a specific titan counter ship class is really needed at this point.
Agreed..... it's supposed to be hard to kill... if there were an easy way, or sometting you could research and build to kill a titan, it would defeat the purpose of having one.
I like to think of them like the "Death Star"... tough as hell and the only way to kill it is thinking of something clever, and a hell of a lot of luck! Try and find a weak point....
On the bright side, they may have a titan, but so do you!!! Build yours first and start killing things! Remember, the higher the level, the tougher the titan... if yours is higher level than your opponant, it can go a long way to surviving a drawn out fight.
I have found the best Titan killer to be your own Titan
Really..
Yup, its called a good fleet.
maybe, just maybe you should get good at this game and not depend on x to defeat y. You know carriers, heavy cruisers and frigates can kill a low level titan pretty fast yet you seem to think a fast expansion towards the enemy is not a vaiable option to solve your problem. Therefore i think if you work on getting good on this game then you will find out that titans aren't as strong as you might think.
Infact you could essentially catch them being built at the foundary and destroy them if your offense and expansion is very good.
Good luck
Damage table wise Corvettes do a good number on titans... too bad their AoE attacks will rip the to shreads.
I actually have always wanted a dedicated titan hunter in game. Doesn't have to be a powerful monstrosity just something as effective as the Ogrov vs. the Orkulus and in the capital ship slot and cost range.
Make it very vulnerable to other things and make it only damage titans.
It's the same concept as real life hunter-killer submarines and anti-ballistic missiles not to mention the hypersonic supercarrier killers China has and Russia is developing.
A ship in a real-life fleet as effective as a titan would beg for an effective and cheaper deterrent--that's how it works.
There are two counters to titans in this game:
Pick one...
Coronata also. Thanks to the damage debuff from Supression Aura it might be even better than the Ragnarov now against single targets.
Until it does chaining damage I refuse to acknowledge that ability....
I'm not personally wanting to nerf titans at all--but as a military history buff, I don't see why there wouldn't be things like "anti-titan mines", "titan hunter-killers", etc. etc.
Everything is balance.
While you refuse to believe, I will happily blast your titan while stealing and frigates you might be stupid enough to bring with you.
Chain keep us together.
Meanwhile, I am running in the shadows.
To be honest I was playing with thought that corvettes should be true titan counter.
Titans should only be able to attack them with only 1 or 2 weapon type they posses and their AOE abilities shouldn't affect them.
Corvettes were actually originally intended as the titan killers--or at least "hurters".
Unfortunately the side effects: game lagging and fun destroying Zerg attacks kinda ruined this role for them.
So back to one of my first comments: think of a titan hunter as a "corvette capital ship".
My thoughts exactly.........
Are you really going to try and tell me Unity Mass does more damage than snipe? I didn't know you trolled, Goa....
No, but it is close enough now with the UM buff.
The lower cooldown with each level is what really give Snipe the edge. However, one thing not noted here is that Snipe is far less antimatter efficient, especially with needing overcharge to do max damage, while the extra potential damage from UM is free and can be done on each attack (you can only get overcharge in what, once every 4 shots of snipe?).
And it certainly doesn't need chaining damage to be competitive. Maybe just increase the base damage a bit while lowering the max extra damage.
Ragnarov has explosive shot and scattershot...that's like uber damage...Coronata has "steal frigates"...cause you know, people still build frigates....
Just admit it Goa, Ragnarov has more phallic might...
And this is why we need an official troll list....
Yes but as they came out b4 1,4 they were good against everything. If they were good only against titans and weak they wouldn't bee spammed as they were in those times
You'd be surprised, I rushed a Coronata on ICO a two days ago. Its actually great mid game for making up for the fleet you didn't build while getting the titan.
Yes, of course the Ragnarov's other abilities give it more damage potential. Does Scattershot work on titans? That armor debuff would allow Snipe to beat out UM easy...
I won't comment on where the Ragnarov get its power from.
I'm thinking very much the same thing. Now that abilities that target frigates don't automatically target corvettes... removing corvettes from all titan AoE attacks could go a long way to making titans more manageable. As Corvettes also apply debuffs, which are more effective on single, strong targets, it would both allow you to build something that won't just get decimated by Chastic burst etc. while the debuffs make it easier for your own titan and cap ships to take it down.
