After about 30 minutes of attempting to play this----I think i am finally beaten. Once again I play this game everynight..I have played for hundreds of hours with no sov pictures, sideways arrows, spells, buildings and heroes that do not do what the tool tip says. I have continued to play even knowing that some factions are virtually unplayable because CORE mechanics dont work...cant play death if your spells make pretty lights and do not do damage. So i download the beta and start in.....City placement is now MORE restrictive and the maps suck as bad as always....now not only do have to find the forest and the river and the food resource BUT you also have to have ESSENCE...CTRl-N like never before. Your cities now intentionally mow down those trees that you need for another building...every single time. OUR cities have to be shunted into a useless growth path almost immediately---an empty que is good for what? OUTPOSTS...not even gonna go there. Seriously guys.
Who are you guys making this game for? We still have errors from three or four patches back that are still here and now we see that the results of the last six months are just to make things prettier and put us on a rail system of city management and gameplay........one spot might get you a good city..one choice...is a decision with only one correct outcome a choice?...in character development.
Fall from heaven kept me going for years because you could get big and loud and stupid and just plop anywhere and try to pull it out. Right now with this patch you better ctrl-n about 20 more times....and you had better not take more than 2 turns to plop somewhere. Can we have a vote for choice? Going to sign off and go download AION...seriously guys.....have a beer and step back and think about what you are doing.
IF you want us reduced to ONE sov ONE city spot on the map ONE correct path ...then just make a video for youtube and people like me that want to PLAY a game can just move on.
Took a break had a smoke and came back ....Froggie Kael and others, speaking for myself, the enjoyment of games if from choices. We are at a point where all our choices are being reduced constantly.
First- abandon essence...it is subtractive not additive.
Second. FIX known errors. sideways arrows and spells that do not work. And 3d models why dont they work? If you need me to bring my PC and show up at the office then we can do that but when I cant see my sov then i really dont have a sense of attachement with the game.
third put stuff back in ---streamlining is exactly NOT the way we want to go. tech tree should be big and bushy and have a couple of choices that are plain foolish.....give us a jester college or a gypsy camp just for the hell of it. Give us back every building, sov, stupid spell, caravan and just plain nonsense. IT IS A world not an amusemaent park I do not want to stand in a line I want to run around in circles and go woohoo. STOR is failing miserably because it a storyline driven ONE track game.
Fourth MAKE more spots to build a city....I can live with a 4-3 if it has a forest or a grain or a mana shard.....but when it takes 10 ctrl-ns to get the minimum playable requirements, then i am just reloading and not Playing.
Sovs--where to start. Give us back the unseen. Quit giving the remainders lobotomies.....pressing end turn while waiting for a troop to back up your sov so they can walk 10 hexes away is just foolish. I could walk an entire FFH map with my leader...Cant do that in FE. I dont care if he or she is smoking hot on turn 300...if she dies eight times before level 5 then she is useless.
CIV 5 has show us exactly how to kill almost an entire segment of the gaming market. TAKE AWAY CHOICES. There are still people playing FALL from Heaven in huge numbers because it was big and bold. Warlock is gaining converts because they added...what? MORE choices.
Yes there is a segment of games that almost certainly requires the correct choices to play successfully- You can crash and burn in Mechwarrior and End of nations if you dont follow a pretty restrictive path....strategy games arent like that we want to build a stupid pyramid on an island just because we can...and beat the hell out of the greeks while we are doing it.....so guys once again i write basically the same damn post asking for more and getting less.
Hound out
Agree the poll show the vast majority of this forums resident enjoy it like it is, but here's is the place of die hard fans , the few grognards left .Do a poll about elemental and you will have pretty much same results. This is the thing that worrying me, far too positive comments here, they will not believe me , why would they , people are happy here. But once its released to a wider audience they will fall from heaven indeed...
Wait for the steam release forum feedback , metacritic scores etc... 53 for elemental right now, i predict 70 at best on FE that being optimistic if its released with untouched mechanism and bugs ironed out.If they want to attain legendary stauts they are far from it, if they want a mediocre game to sastisfy people who were already convinced by elemental , goal attained.
Well, I must say, this clearly isn't the right game for you.
I agree a lot with the OP. It seems once again, like E:WOM before it, this game is turning out to be a buggy mess. The release will be a botched one. I feel like at this stage it should be a lot more polished too. I've put countless hours and nights into this game to test and just can't get past one or two hundred turns without the game being unbearable.
I will give them some benefit of the doubt until BETA 5 comes out but the fact that it is being put on Steam as is means it seems like the devs think things are close enough to the final release as is. That to me is pretty worrisome.
I guess all I can say is us early adopters were promised two expansions. With FE acting as the first I'm already shifting into the mode where I'm thinking maybe the second expansion (or third installment) will be the charm?
The thing is for the OP and me this IS probably the closest game to being the game for us. It's just so poorly executed and buggy. I actually have very little complaints and praise the gameplay but if the core gameplay doesn't even work right then the best game mechanics and design in the world couldn't save the game.
I know the consensus in the forums is that the game is good but I guess it's bias more than anything. They are blatantly over looking the very obvious flaws in the game. (Even Brad does so himself as I've noticed in some of his playthroughs.) Metacritic tells you a lot. I predict the game will get 60% tops. Slight better than WOM.
I know I might catch flack for this, but I'll ask anyways. I see some of the same people complaining about the same stuff. Since I do not follow closely what these complaints are really about, and I am worried that FE will have a similar launch to E:WoM, can each person write out their complaints in a rational voice. I am not looking to argue, I am just very curious what these complaints are since they are spread out over many thread all over the board.
I'd love to assemble them and categorize them and then turn them over or draw the attention of the dev's to them. I'd hate for tunnel-vision to cloud the better judgement and waste the talents of Stardock.
Thank you.
How do you want to put a debug.err file for a slowdown in tactical? ( I could try to make a video of this one, if needed)
There is a sean23 let's play a perfect example of of corrupted saves.
There is mine own thread about autolocking crash and missing 3d models (the link is above a page earlier).
The point is those issues, were properly reported as bugs with saves, pictures, or .err file where possible. we are ready to follow them up when requested. like trying to load a game or test a private patch on our sets, or battlign out hundred of tacticals to see at which point the game slow down. basicaly whatever. The threads with missing models got Frogboy attention, but suggesions for UI improvement where left without comment from devs side.
the end note is that nothing happened. I was not asked to do anything. Nor my bugs fixed.
Hmmm, that's rough. I know the game save corrupts are an issue, and they are being addressed. It looks like they did some work towards that goal in this latest patch/update. The 3d issues, might be specific to your or a few other configs, and I do not know if they can devote a team to trouble shoot only a couple of computer setups. With pc gaming there are soooo many combinations possible. The UI issues, yea, I completely agree there, but again, it's mostly a few people asking. I am not defending them, I'm just saying.
Frogboy started a new thread addressing the bugs we have been discussing. Anyone who has problems with the recurrent bugs should make them known there. I have to say I am a little worried that they are pushing to beta 5 after just one more update. This beta cycle was supposed to be all about cities. We have gotten alot of great city design from beta 4, but .951 was nearly pure UI and AI. They were great changes, but I have to question whether or not enough focus is being put on the strategic side of cities. I guess we'll know in 2-3 weeks.
That is the pupose of a beta nasarog---out of the ten thousand we have ---maybe--in this beta....just a number pulled out of my butt based on the number of views for this forum. Out of the ten thousand if we have a couple hundred with missing 3d models and one of them in the future is a reviewer...boom. Or just the fact that Myself on a commercial machine with windows 7 ONE UPGRADE- a radeon 6450 vid card and NO funky software, cant see 3d models is weird.
Now it has got to the point that i am trying to trouble shoot my own machine and software to figure out the problem.
Well in terms of city features, I think Beta 4 is done. From here on, I imagine it'll mostly be balance and UI in that area. It's not like we'll be adding a new type of city or making flying cities or something.
Bug fixing. Balance. Polish. These are the priorities.
Fair enough. I don't mind you crushing my dreams as long as you do it promptly and in person (I mean this in a good natured joking manner if my tone is not apparent).
I am moreso talking about city levelup choices and a few other buildings that are not optimal yet. There does not seem to be enough focus in the three city types. I guess that counts as balance though really. I do like all the changes you did make to cities in .951. Conclaves got some of the research power they needed in the level 3 choices.
welcome frogboy. downloading 951 now...i will see how it goes.
flying cities???????!!!! i just want a pony.....
Well some of you spoiled my cheese time with contagion. Thanks a freaking lot. I was a big man. A BIG MAN. Now it's going to get nerfed.
Good luck.
I haven't had many problems with FE. I did have the save problem with .95 but haven't noticed it yet with .951
Don't feel bad. Wait till you try to go to Windows 8. Oye.
I am staying away from windows 8. I am going to get some souped up version of win 7, but that's about it.
