After about 30 minutes of attempting to play this----I think i am finally beaten. Once again I play this game everynight..I have played for hundreds of hours with no sov pictures, sideways arrows, spells, buildings and heroes that do not do what the tool tip says. I have continued to play even knowing that some factions are virtually unplayable because CORE mechanics dont work...cant play death if your spells make pretty lights and do not do damage. So i download the beta and start in.....City placement is now MORE restrictive and the maps suck as bad as always....now not only do have to find the forest and the river and the food resource BUT you also have to have ESSENCE...CTRl-N like never before. Your cities now intentionally mow down those trees that you need for another building...every single time. OUR cities have to be shunted into a useless growth path almost immediately---an empty que is good for what? OUTPOSTS...not even gonna go there. Seriously guys.
Who are you guys making this game for? We still have errors from three or four patches back that are still here and now we see that the results of the last six months are just to make things prettier and put us on a rail system of city management and gameplay........one spot might get you a good city..one choice...is a decision with only one correct outcome a choice?...in character development.
Fall from heaven kept me going for years because you could get big and loud and stupid and just plop anywhere and try to pull it out. Right now with this patch you better ctrl-n about 20 more times....and you had better not take more than 2 turns to plop somewhere. Can we have a vote for choice? Going to sign off and go download AION...seriously guys.....have a beer and step back and think about what you are doing.
IF you want us reduced to ONE sov ONE city spot on the map ONE correct path ...then just make a video for youtube and people like me that want to PLAY a game can just move on.
Took a break had a smoke and came back ....Froggie Kael and others, speaking for myself, the enjoyment of games if from choices. We are at a point where all our choices are being reduced constantly.
First- abandon essence...it is subtractive not additive.
Second. FIX known errors. sideways arrows and spells that do not work. And 3d models why dont they work? If you need me to bring my PC and show up at the office then we can do that but when I cant see my sov then i really dont have a sense of attachement with the game.
third put stuff back in ---streamlining is exactly NOT the way we want to go. tech tree should be big and bushy and have a couple of choices that are plain foolish.....give us a jester college or a gypsy camp just for the hell of it. Give us back every building, sov, stupid spell, caravan and just plain nonsense. IT IS A world not an amusemaent park I do not want to stand in a line I want to run around in circles and go woohoo. STOR is failing miserably because it a storyline driven ONE track game.
Fourth MAKE more spots to build a city....I can live with a 4-3 if it has a forest or a grain or a mana shard.....but when it takes 10 ctrl-ns to get the minimum playable requirements, then i am just reloading and not Playing.
Sovs--where to start. Give us back the unseen. Quit giving the remainders lobotomies.....pressing end turn while waiting for a troop to back up your sov so they can walk 10 hexes away is just foolish. I could walk an entire FFH map with my leader...Cant do that in FE. I dont care if he or she is smoking hot on turn 300...if she dies eight times before level 5 then she is useless.
CIV 5 has show us exactly how to kill almost an entire segment of the gaming market. TAKE AWAY CHOICES. There are still people playing FALL from Heaven in huge numbers because it was big and bold. Warlock is gaining converts because they added...what? MORE choices.
Yes there is a segment of games that almost certainly requires the correct choices to play successfully- You can crash and burn in Mechwarrior and End of nations if you dont follow a pretty restrictive path....strategy games arent like that we want to build a stupid pyramid on an island just because we can...and beat the hell out of the greeks while we are doing it.....so guys once again i write basically the same damn post asking for more and getting less.
Hound out
Because this game has been in beta for two years and still crashes and the designers are talking about world events and not fixing crashes and releasing it AS-IS so that everyone can see that it is still not ready...after two years. do you think that wont be beaten like a drum? Seriously, you think this is a good idea? And the line..there's a patch coming-is getting just about foolish at this point. I have been through all the patches and still this game is not stable.
This game has not been in beta for 2 years, again, maybe you are confused about WoM being a different game.
I am sure they are planning on fixing the crashes. Have you yet bothered to send in a crash file to them so they can investigate> Probably not.
The game is not being released next week, the fact you can't understand this is mind boggling. Simple logic is wasted on you.
I've posted a quick reply in Brad's new thread. I'm not sure how much they will change at this point but we'll see.
I'll look into your thread too when I have a bit more time! Thanx!
The Steam "release" is only as much a release product as this one. People, reviewers or not, can already see the current state of affairs if they pre-order the game like I did. Unless I misunderstood something myself, one still must pre-order the game on Steam to be eligible for seeing the current gameplay, or am I wrong?
I don't even necessarily disagree with you that Stardock should take extra precaution before making the game more visible to the public eye. I never played WOM myself but it was a huge debacle across gaming sites everywhere and it's in their interests to make sure the game isn't just worth 70% or 80% or even 90% by reviewer standards. They should try for a 100% rating and have a very low tolerance for bugs and other issues that would for a normal game not be enough to interfere with release. I'm not aware on whether this course is feasible for their financial situation however. This Beta 4A "Steam release" may be their way of securing more funds for continued development.
I would guess that the steam beta release is more important for bug reports than for money. If you look at the number of people reporting on the forums and how close the steam release is in proximity to reports, one might guess that they want to increase the size of the beta group in order to get more combinations of machines reporting errors. I think that if this is the case, releasing the beta now is a fine choice. If they are expecting a warm welcome and praise over game mechanics, perhaps not such a fine choice.
gosh blackrain hostile much....
1st it is the same game-maybe you dont get that? the xml and code is the same, thats why we still get leagacy problems like headless sovs.
2nd---"""""I am sure they are planning on fixing the crashes.""" Why are you sure? They havent done it in two years.
The game is being released next, frogboy said so. You calling him a liar? It doesnt matter if it is called a beta, it is being released. And we will once again see that it crashes...just like all the reviews i posted...same thing different day.
@darkehound
Yes, pls. Do this. It seems that you don´t have fun with FE. So this is the best option for you...
That's called "sharing a graphics engine." It typically doesn't mean it's the same game, but as you're only interest is in getting others to sign up for the Trash Talk FE Club, I suspect this point won't interest you.
Neither all the reviews, nor even most of the reviews, note this. And it's a beta. Come on! If you're going to endlessly put down FE, show a little imagination! For goodness' sake, don't be so obvious in your fabrications. Make something up that at least holds our interest, man! I came back here hoping that you'd gotten something truly inventive going, but you're just rehashing points you've made before that have been repeatedly debunked. Sheesh.
fabrications? can you not read...type in war of magic reviews...every review on the first page of yahoo said crashes. I didnt write them two years ago
I am just bringing them up again. Many people in the thread of frogboys announcement are saying the same thing. I dont endlessly put down FE i have repeatedly said that i am playing it constantly and how much i want it to succeed. But i really dont want to see stardock get the hell beat out of it AGAIN. Your argument on " sharing a graphics engine" doesnt exactly hold water. What else is new as compared to WOM? The code is the same, the UI has been changed and some of the graphics we see are different but it is still the same. Otherwise we would not be seeing the exact same errors that are still being listed on the WOM bug reports page. Exact same errors that we have been seeing for two years, and personally across two pcs and two different os's. And every single time that i have written a post on here i have alt tabbed and gone back to playing. I DONT want it to fail. My repeated statement is i want to be playing this in 10 years like Alpha centauri or FFH, But i need frogboy to still have a job for that to happen.
Oh, please. If all you're going to pull is a bait-and-switch, you're going to get called on it every time. I wrote fabrications, and quoted what that referred to:
This beta isn't getting released, and you know that. Your comment above is a fabrication. I'm not even going to go into the rest of your remarks, since anyone who can refer back to my post, including you, knows exactly what I'm referring to. Either give it up and wait to see the results when the game in released--at which time you can triumphantly grouse, or be oddly silent and enjoy the game, depending on how things turn out--or consider doing something more imaginative here than the endlessly disproven comments you put up. They are ancient nags, hardly deserve the beating you give them, and deserve a fine retirement in central Florida.
Why is it not being released? frogboy said it is. What are yo talking about? "When the game is released" We have already seen one disaster with this game and i dont want another. I did the same grouse back in may and we havent resolved a single issue that i brought up. We have a new thread on crashes with this patch. Corruption of save and crashes is horrible and it needs to be fixed- not add new spells.
Simple really new content is bunk if you cant play the game.
You wrote:
Meaning, what's called a beta is going to be released. Not, the game is going to be released.
Faux innocence isn't a good look on you.
Not being innocence as i said several posts back, This game beta whatever does not need the public to see it at this time.
Thats it, no one else needs to be seeing this crash fest until they fix some stuff. For those of us that paid for this thing two years ago and got a knee dragging apology for wasting our money on it and then a promise to do it right this time...this is not the way to do it. Thats it.
Leave the hostilety somewhere else dude.
Darkehound this used to be amusing but now it's becoming annoying and childish...
For the last time:
- this game is LESS buggy than many final releases, and it is still at least two major betas before release
- it is NOT the same game as WoM, and your failing to understand this is downright obtuse (look it up...)
- you are CONSISTENTLY making mistakes about the game and about the statements of the Stardock team
- if you look at the poll that Frogboy has set up, you will clearly see that the VAST majority of players are enjoying the game
- you accuse others of hostility, when your whole attitude, from your original post and even its TITLE, was hostile
- your only contribution so far are feature requests that noone agrees with (abolish essence), vague bug reports and constant flaming
- there are several examples in this board of reporting bugs or asking for changes in a CIVIL, POLITE AND CONSTRUCTIVE way, which you seem unwilling or incapable of doing
- when several experienced players and forum members have tried to give you some insight so YOU can enjoy the game more, you have responded only with attacks and repeats of your previous whiney arguments
Seriously, dude - there are sooooooo many better ways to spend your time on this earth - play something else, read a book, go outside, have a drink (if you are of legal age, which I doubt), find a friend, get a real life!
I like icecream.... With sprinkles...

So what? This game aims to be legendary. less than perfect is unacceptable. and some of the issues, where mentioned during beta of WoM.
it is similar in terms of genre, graphics, mechanics, world. as much as an average gamer perceive, this is an expansion to the original game.
because releasing of beta, is releasing. gramma says so, that more genric term cover a less generic. I understand your logic, but also understand that wider audience of it's current state may hamper the game's perception
yes, but you fail to notice, that most people that are here, are hardcore genre fanatics, MOM fanatics, Stardock fanatics, and those who bought the game on release of WOM and treat it as a sunk cost so they try to improve their investment and improve FE. The average opinion of an involved person is higher than neutral or negatively biased. I am affraid that without this bias the average opinion is much lower, and again this game aiming for becoming legendary cannot accept less then perfect review.
it is returned in kind
they are not vague, he provided his own .err files in the same threads I did.
feature requests, are his opinion, I do think that some of them could be interesting, but the most important are bugs
I've seen him civil, polite and constructive at least in this thread https://forums.elementalgame.com/429405 so this thread might be the case of frustration and further replies case of retaliation to insults.
Try to focus more on the issues present and less on form and avoid personal statements.
tks sentemodo...I havent attacked anyone and this guys keeps doing it. I erase any posts that would be seen as personal. I am hostile to a game that has crashed three times this morning.
Now back to the statement which seems to be hanging you up? It is the same game. Sitting here looking at the original disk. Go ask one of the modders if you cant see the code. Except for ui and some other features the engine the graphics and the AI are the same with tweaks.
But that doesnt really natter you seem to get hung up on issues that dont matter like crashes....big problem.
I see beta releases all the time on Steam. If anything, it helps the game, not hurt it. You get a wider range of critiques, wider hardware base; why wouldn't you put a beta on Steam/GG/Impulse? It can only help. Just my two cents.
I think it's still too early for the level of angst expressed in this thread.
Nobody is attacking you. But its hard to take you serious, when you use words like "unplayable". I played WoM (it was fun sometimes) and i have played FE since beta 1 for many, many hours and i love it. Reading your posts and reading words like "unplayable" makes me think you are a troll. Nothing less.
Have you seen seawn3 or das123 Lets play videos? Does this look like unplayable to you?
Its just nonsense what you wrote. Another example...
"some" other features? graphics and AI are the same?
But forget it. This thread is yours. Go one with your nonsense...
It was called unplayable by at least two of the reviewers 2 years ago. I have been playing it and it is frustrating. VERY. I have reported errors and sent in debug and posted an entire thread back in may. The response was to keep going down a path that did not fix problems with the game but to add more things that caused more problems. Once again you go with the same game problem...ok its a brand new game all the code everything was created last week, why do we still have all the crashes and corrupted saves, headless sovs and spells that dont work? Thats it, you cant answer that the designers have to, it is their job to correct these things and they are not only not doing it, they are acting like they dont exist.
And once again you are insulting please just stop. I havent done it to you or anyone else.
I am talking about verifiable crashes and problems with the game and you call me a troll and say these items are nonsense. Every single time you have attacked me I go right back to game issues.
EDIT sorry apparently derek is looking into crashes...and he posted on a sunday also
The reviewers reviewed WOM before it was completed (fully patched). The last version of the game isn't that bad, especially if you use the end of the war mod.
As for crashes and stuff, of course they should be fixed. Most of your complaints were not about crashes but silly things like putting in useless buildings and costumes. Not that I would be against them adding more content, even costumes.
While playing FE tonight (aside from bugs, pretty stable on my system), I thought about this post, and Dominions 3 may just be your type of game Darkehound. Lots of things to choose from, though the level of micromanagement is just a tad much for my liking. Just a thought.
Tried it didnt much care for it. And once again i am told to leave. Thanks for the thought but i will be here. Playing right now.
I will be curious to see if any of the new users coming from the steam opening of the beta have the same 3D model problems you do. I find it hard to believe that your computer is the only one with such a serious bug. Maybe more people with the problem will elicit a fix from the devs?
