So I have a fully upgraded planet. Then I see a rapidly flying ball of light strike my planet and wipe it out. Whats the deal with that? Is this new with Rebellion? Is there a counter? How often can they fire this weapon? Why not build more and wipe all my planets out? Kind of cheap?
That thing would be called a Novalith and they've been around since '08 in vanilla. The TEC build them. The Loyalists get them at T6 and the Rebels at T8. Each race has it's own superweapon. The TEC have the nova, the Advent have the Deliverance Engine, and the Vasari have the Kostura.
They do 3500 damage and halve the income of the planet for half an hour. You can't counter them directly, but starbases have upgrades that prevent the loss of a planet through orbital bombardment.
And actually they're far from cheap. They cost 8000 credits plus metal and crystal to build and as of Rebellion, each faction can only construct four whereas in previous installments, you could put one on every planet you had the tactical slots for.
They actually are quite easy to deal with once you learn how to.
EDIT: Mecha, don't troll the noobs. That's just mean. Go back to your troll thread.
Nope, the Novalith cannon has been in there since the beginning, the AI was just to stupid to use them until late in diplomacy. Lots of people went crazy with that patch, some with joy that the AI was a little bit more at their level, others in pain and anguish that that the AI can hurt their turtled up empires.
Yes. Every faction has a starbase upgrade that prevents them from losing a planet to bombardment. This includes damage from the Novalith cannon. When the AI starts building a Novalith or any other superweapon, you'll get a warning sound and picture on your UI, like with titans. Immediately start building starbase constructors on your most valuable planets and get this upgrade. Typically the AI will only try to shoot at a few of your planets, usually your homeworld and those closest to the front lines, so most of the time things like asteroids in the back will be fine, and even if not they're easy to recolonize.
I actually had 1 guy fall for that like a year ago. So, thanks for spoiling it.
planetary sheild generators will also work too, fully researched the novalith will barely do any damage, and leave most of your population intact. depending on teh race im playing i just use the shield.
although i just disable the superweapons, since iiMO right now there imbalanced.
They are actually quite easy to deal with once you get used to them.
Only the TEC get this.
Not imbalanced just spammed too much by the AI.
yea i maby should have worded who gets the shield better, instead "depending on teh race" maby "if playing as the TEC"
well the vasari and tec superweapons actually do something, however the advent superwepon as far as i can tell in my extensive playtime is useless.
Well, if you hit a planet with the Deliverance Engine, all of your ships will get a %25 bonus to damage output at that planet, so it is not "that" useless.
