I think I want a number of things if Sins 2, if its going to be made.1. 3-D weapon and engine particles, I am tired of turning slightly to the side then weapon fire disappears.2. Rotating guns and firing arks. The autoguns on the Kol for example, I would love to see them follow their targets, take a note from Homeworld 2. Firing Arks meaning weapons that can't "rotate" should only fire straight, like the beam arrays on the front of the Kol, they are straight forward and shouldn't fire to the side and the gun on the Ragnarov Titan, it shouldn't be able to fire to the side because it is a fixed thing, unless the Titan moves it should only fire the direction the Titan is facing. 3. Ships leaving the Shipyards, not popping out, again take a note from Homeworld 2. 4. MAKE PHASE WINDOWS THAT ACTUALLY FIT THE SHIPS!!!! The Jarrasul dwarfs the phase window it travels through and the Mothership. If a ship doesn't fit in the phase window it is in doesn't that mean that the pieces hanging out shouldn't come along for the ride? 5. Smaller flak particles for the TEC Titans. 6. Corvettes move to violent and don't turn the way other ships do. 7. Campaign, it would be impossible to put a face on the Unknown Enemy and still keep its mystery and almost God-like reputation, but you can do it like this. For the Vasari Empire, start out expanding the Empire, conquering every world in your path. Then the inner planets go silent, you send ships. No response. Then the Dark Fleet launches, 1 ship returns. Build the Exodus Fleet and depart Vasari Space, battle the Advent and TEC then realize they have lingered too long then Rebellion breaks out. But I don't know how you would go about doing the whole Rebellion thing with all the factions. And with the Advent that I will lead up to you since they are a mystery. And the TEC, ohh the TEC, expand the Trade lanes, find the Advent, silence maybe a small little fight with Advent ships above their world before exile. Then show a cinematic symbolizing 1k years have past then the Vasari come to wreak unholy destruction on accident then the revenge seeking, ruthless, PMS-ing Advent come back and mess up the poor Trade Order. I feel really bad for the Trade Order you know?8. Ooh Ooh Ooh maybe even some trailers from the Vasari and Advent point of view because all we have seen is the TEC's an don't get me wrong I like that it shows how much pity the TEC really deserve9. Just a given but make a new sound for when weapons hit shields because it sounds so wimpy, like a small sizzle.10. Also just a given but more freedom with how long we can make our ship names.11. Again a given, group scuttle, maybe I am the only one tired of....say if you have a column of gauss platforms you don't like anymore because your ex-wifes on one of them maybe. You have to select them one after another to scuttle. Also if you have ships you don't need like 150 Javelis, well I feel I need Kodiaks, well I have to now click one then scuttle, then click another and scuttle. 12. Its annoying to me, the size of the guns on the Garda, they should be slightly smaller and ^^^ should rotate!!13. Advanced game options, like being able to disable certain things in the game to make it more interesting, like "No Frigates" "No Superweapons" "No Capital Ships" "No Research" "No Fog of War"- All planets discovered."No Starbases" "No Cruisers" "No Defense Structures" "No Strikecraft" "No Anti-Structure Cruisers" "No Culture" things like that. I got the idea from the computer version of Supreme Commander 2. I think it would be really awesome! And say if you disable Frigates then you get bonus supply of Capital Ship supply, things like that would be really really cool. 14. Make the Ankylon bigger!! It is supposed to be a defensive Titan right? Then why is it so small and barely deserve the name Titan? I know that throughout the Rebellion updates you are going to buff and debuff the Titans and different faction abilities. Also make areas where weapon fire from Titans is visible as to where the weapon shots are coming from and make an engine for the Vasari Rebel Titan, I mean the flame is coming out of no where and more than one engine for the Advent's new battleship.15. Smaller Nuclear Warheads launched from the Krosev and TEC Capital Ships. 16. Improved graphics - New skyboxes and more of them, more detail on the textures of ships and planets17. Remove the big f-ing guns on the TEC Capital Ships, I mean they are not artillery mounts. I am pretty sure with the technology the TEC have they can launch nukes out of maybe Silos. Would we like that, Maybe like Battlestar Galactica did it, have the Silos pop out of the top of the ship and missiles not bombs the size of cities. 18. Remove anti-structure cruisers, people end up spamming them, the AI spams the hell out of them, they just sit in the back and destroy everything in the gravity well. I also don't like the design of the Ogrov, I mean the torpedoes or so massive and it clearly shows that they have a supply of what 4? Where do the others come from?????? I mean it makes sorta sense with the Advent, somehow guided plasma balls fall out of a plasma spawning pool that dominates the entire design of the ship. 19. Retool the look of the new Vasari battleship, and rename it. Its not a battleship. Am I the only one who doesn't like the veins running through the hull of it, it also either looks like a lobster or a Reaper from Mass Effect. Umm oh yeah the Vasari Corvettes......get rid of the veins and I think they would look better if they didn't have the little arms, I personally hate the look of the Vasari's Corvettes. I think they look like flying space beetles that when they are the Loyalist they are green and the Rebel...orange? I just don't like them. My friend said you kinda half-assed the new Vasari Capital Ship and Corvettes. I think personally you should take them back to the drawing board. Neither of them have that "Vasari Look".20.Phase Missile and Missile turning, when a Capital ship or LRM Frigate fires missiles, whether they are phase or normal, if one misses it spins around the ship then makes a quick sharp turn, cutting its stream. It has bothered me since the beginning. I think they should turn more elegantly. 21. Make finding artifacts not so damn hard to find!!22. A new spacial phenomena, maybe like a huge gravity well, almost the entire gravity well of neutral homing mines or some are stationary. A full thing like top bottom and middle, a big sphere of semi-powerful mines. If anyone else has any suggestions please reply.I have been playing Sins of a Solar Empire since the original and I am a true fan and I absolutely love this game, it is amazing. If the makers of SOASE see this please consider the things I have suggested.
No new ships! Are you kidding me! I absolutely disagree 100%! Sins has such a lack of general content it pains me to see Rebellion attempt to call itself an "expansion." I have been a very loyal SoaSE fan since its conception, and since then I have found there to be a great many number of substantial flaws. The most noticeable being the general lack of content, that being said I refuse to believe that Sins has enough content. My personal vendetta is partial to the maddening lack of faction customisation within any given game. I tend to think big, and if I ever had the chance to make Sins of a Solar Empire 2, well lets just say that the game you think to be so cool now would be unrecognisable, in a very good way. I would be more than pleased to elaborate on my ideas, if you so wish to endure them.
Think of the kittens, dammit.

I love Sin and love the mods fans have made.
What I would love to see is a map like the game Endless Space.
Where the Icon are Solar system instead just a planet.
Save the kittens. Kittens are now officially considered to be an endangered species. Give lots of money to the guy who made this to save the kittens: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/428871/page/27
I've been playing Sins since it came out and for the longest time now I've wondered why you can't have multiple players control one empire. I've seen some cool mods and seen the game changed COMPLETELY. So why cant you have multiple players control one empire? I mean honestly how much more fun would you have if you and your friends could all play as one empire and only have to worry about what you were assigned to do with your friends? And then you could even set up a tier system where one person was say "The Admiral" and he had basic economic control and logistics and planet authority, and he was in charge of production and research and fleet coordination. "The Commander" would be in charge of large fleets and would recieve his ships from "The Admiral" and could in turn pass on ships to "The Captain" who would not have access to any of "The Commander's" or "The Admiral's" ships, only what he was given.
And to combat the problem of people leaving, or conflicting agendas, The game could incorporate a voting system in which everyone on the team could choose who the "Admiral(s)" "Commander(s)" and "Captain(s)" were on the fly so that your team could adapt as needed.
My idea comes from Starcraft Brood War, one of the game types was called "Team Melee." It allowed multiple players to control a single base and allowed for a far greater ammount of teamwork at the expense of production capabilities (i.e. 200 unit limit compared to 800 unit limit.)
Also Enders Game the book is another great example of this idea.
I realize that this could not be made into a mod because of the source code problems involved. But I think this would make Sins 2 an awesome game and increase gameplay value exponentially.
sins 2 will be great if IC listens to community instead of stardock
Let me say something so this post will go on top again.
There you go.
Sins2 has already mastered RTS4x. The only thing left to do is to master the true feature of 3D which involve a lot when dealing with space and make it a real space game. Then bring in unrivaled scaling, meaning scale as in human to ship scale, fighter with 1 human cockpit fighter to frigate that carriers 22,000 personnel scale, and also planetary scale so large that you will be able to see your ship burning up the atmosphere watching it dissolve while it falls below like an asteroid leaving trails.
I do believe that with the zooming feature sins engine provide can make it happen. meaning that when you zoom out we all see nothing but clusters of stars then when we zoom in we see your current galaxy backdrop. With this possibility, zooming in should also bring in planetary detail and see crisp landscape features down below. Planetary bombardment will never be the same and then make an animation nuclear hit effect where we can all see tsunami waves reaching the land surface every time a nuclear missle goes off then likewise with land bombardment.

Meh...
As it stands, SoaSE:R is the clear frontrunner of current 4X space games (GC2 is probably at a close 2nd)...but, the competition is also either very weak or not fully in the game yet...
Legends of Pegasus completely fell through...
Sword of the Stars 2 is slowly trying to climb itself out of a hole...it may some day redeem itself but only time will tell...
Stardrive is still in beta and has a long way to go....
Distant Worlds has too high a price point and just doesn't seem to be in the same tier as Sins...
Endless Space is probably the best competitor...personally I find it to be a very good contender though the general opinion seems to be that ES is a small step below GC2 and SoaSE:R...you have to realize though that SoaSE:R has the benefit of three expansions (2 for GC2) and years of feedback/bug fixing....Endless space on the other hand has only just started on their first expansion....
When stardrive finally gets a full release and starts moving on to additional content, I think that game will also be a very strong contender...
In short, I don't think Sins has "mastered" 4X, RTS, or both....it just is the best title in the genre at the moment, and it would be foolish for Sins 2 development to not closely follow and analyze what other titles are doing in their own 4X and/or RTS...
You are right. I think the word "mastered" is a bit over stated. But lets look at how long sin's been around. Few of these titles you've mentioned was never thought of when sin's began testing IC engine. From the looks of it, the games you mentioned derived from accomplishment of what soase had created.
I wouldn't lean too much in favor of analyzing what other titles are doing specially the new title that seems to copy in the same nature as sins of a solar empires breakthroug. In regards to unrivaled scaling. Although it is wise and maybe beneficial. It wouldn't hurt a bit but to improve, polish, go step further as not only in 4x strategy but also in scale and scope of the possibility of what IC engine had already proven.

Whoever is in charge of animal cruelty needs to arrest this man.
I think they need to arrest you since your depicting an animal of a horse as your main character photo profile. Your degrading the horses by abusing their nature state of being. Although as it seems that you might be a lost pony who post on forums that are not meant for pink horses. I think you need to google my little pony's forum and troll your pink horse towards the other direction.

ouch!
Burn...
I got one.
- The ability to sell/give military hardware to other players the same way I would resources/credits.
i got one too a more nomadic ships appears rarely and randomly and sells you some crazy weird looking ships
Keep them coming....how about planetary fights in arcade or RTS tactical mode?
How about ship location damage like in Star Wars empire at war?
Bridge destroyed, engine destroyed.. these turrets destroyed, shield generator destroyed.. its a pretty cool system in star wars.. would be awesome for this game..
Also one other thing id add is star wars had a cinematic mode. press space bar and bam the game zooms in on ships in combat duking it out, changing between ships.. etc it was pretty cool.
Also rotating turrets!
I like the idea of targeted damage (destroy a ship's engines so it can't escape, destroy its bridge and reduce its accuracy or something, destroy the weapons or hangar to prevent them from being used, etc.) but targeted damage may require a more intelligent repair system (may not, the repair could autocast on any ship section with over x amount of damage).
If there is any ability to destroy sections of a ship then I think there should be a system of capturing ships. For example, if you destroy the bridge, weapons, shields and engines while keeping the hangar and most of the superstructure intact a new type of frigate (or any existing frigate with a new ability) could use a "Boarding Party" ability with a percent chance to take over the ship depending on its size (e.g. Frigates/corvettes 50% chance, Cruisers 25% chance, capitalships 10% chance - decreases 1% per level)
I'm not sure about rotating turrets since Sins is generally played from a distance too far to make turrets a common sight but I would like to see a better firing arc system (The Ragnarov rail gun should not shoot sideways while the Ankylon beams could easily shoot in the front 180° and cover the side 60° or so).
I think this could be changed.. With somehow making "melee" combat a viable thing in Sins, like in the new Star Wars movies when the two ships are next to each other and firing like crazy.
Ramming would be great.. ships pretty much dead? use it as a battering ram.
My select few wishes regarding content generally and factions specifically in Sins 2>
first of all, i would not mind the current six factions from Rebellion to remain. OFC i would expect them to be further improved and their differences to be made even more profound via adding more cool new technologies, making their ships more unique (if only visually), etc...
Bottom line, aside few notable exceptions, which could perhaps use overhaul/major improvement, like diplomacy, mines or exploration part of the game, i would prefer, if the content of Rebellion was there in its entirety more or less. Dont substract anything please, just because its a new game. I absolutely loved how Rebellion took all the previous Sins games and built upon them instead of dumping half of their content. And i absolutely hated how for example Dawn of War 2 took completely another route by getting rid half of the factions from original DoW.
Anyway, if certain race/faction related mumbo jumbo/realignment was about to take place, if only to refresh things a bit or move the story forward, personally i could see/ would love to see following changes>
- I could see TEC Loyalists and Vasari Rebels to merge into a single, new faction, with completely new ship/structure design of their own. Additionally they would keep major traits and techs of the parent factions, like orientation toward economy, defenses, nanotech, VR diplomatic stuff like shared networks,...they would keep dual bases, jumping bases, phase stabilisers (even though maybe somewhat gimped in contrast with main Vasari faction)...obviously they would lose access to things like Insurgency and Returning Armada. Could have brand new Titan or perhaps stick to either Kultorask or Ankylon. Doctrine-wise their goal would be to make a stand against the nemesis by use of TEC´s expertise in defense and their knowledge of local space.
- TEC faction, based off TEC Rebels. Still aggressive, xenophobic, even more oriented toward cooperation with pirates and various insurgents. Basically TEC Rebels with all their current ship/structure line-up, keeping iconic things like Akkan, Kol, Marza, Sova, Argonev, Ogrov etc... with hopefully few additional bells and whistles, if the devs can come with something. I would give them Novalith Deregulation, since they feel more like using it than the other joint TL/VR faction. Definitely keeping the RAGNAROV in all its beauty, just with higher polygon count and rotating gauss cannons. This goes generally for all the original vessels in the game, keep the basic design, improve on polys, textures, details. The current ship models (especially all the capships, Titans and stations, alongside few notable smaller ships and structures) are good enough for any scifi show on TV, dont scrap them just because!
- old/new Advent faction, being the merge of AL and AR with all their unique stuff. Perhaps you could see, as the only faction in the game, choose a technological pathway between the original AR and AL doctrine, leading up to choice between Coronata and Eradica as your Titan. This would probably require certain re-design of current tech-trees to allow such branching. Once again i would like their iconic stuff (both visually and functionally) to be kept. And since i always considered the Advent factions in Rebellion to be weakest in design, they could use some new stuff as well. Since we recently talked about cloaking around here, how about give them access to that? Or in general, build their game more around superior ability to gain/fake information, cloaking being one part of that.
- Vasari faction - basically Vasari Loyalists in all their glory. Someone might say, they have technically no place ingame, since they left the TEC space lore-wise. But i cant see it, since they are so cool and their gameplay can be so unique, they definitely have to stay. Once again, i cant stress enough, they need to keep their current capital ship line-up, Orkulus as it is, and VORASTRA, with all its menacing looks, teleporting, ship summoning and devouring...additionally they need to keep hold of things like phase stabilisers, civilian evacuations, mobile rulership, shipboard labs, dark fleet beacon and STTC. One change i was thinking about, was perhaps making them fully mobile faction by default, starting with a un-armed, heavily upgrade-able Vorastra instead of capital planet. Not really sure if this would be a good solution though, since it would kinda pigeon-hole the player into a single strategy. Currently you have a choice of going fully mobile or not, this way that choice would be taken away from you. Might make for more interesting gameplay, but ultimately less varied.
Finally, a completely new faction, or maybe even 2. I am probably one of the few, but i would prefer this facton not to be the Vasari nemesis. There i said it. Would prefer something else, like a race, which Vasari Loyalists encountered on their move away from the TEC territories, basically some kind of TEC neighbours. Could be some kind of Galactic Republic, or Council, some kind of alliance of more smaller races. God knows. Just not the nemesis. This should still become in the backstory and slowly unveiling itself, but never completely. The mystery shall be preserved.

honestly I think there should be ONE THING ADDEDsmall fleet medium fleetlarge fleetunlimited fleet ( ONLY FOR SINGLE PLAYER GAME NONE MULT PLAYER ) this would also count for the NPC and cap ships and titans as well would make games more large for massive battles and make having fleets at home more useful so ya this is what I belive something should be added
