I think I want a number of things if Sins 2, if its going to be made.1. 3-D weapon and engine particles, I am tired of turning slightly to the side then weapon fire disappears.2. Rotating guns and firing arks. The autoguns on the Kol for example, I would love to see them follow their targets, take a note from Homeworld 2. Firing Arks meaning weapons that can't "rotate" should only fire straight, like the beam arrays on the front of the Kol, they are straight forward and shouldn't fire to the side and the gun on the Ragnarov Titan, it shouldn't be able to fire to the side because it is a fixed thing, unless the Titan moves it should only fire the direction the Titan is facing. 3. Ships leaving the Shipyards, not popping out, again take a note from Homeworld 2. 4. MAKE PHASE WINDOWS THAT ACTUALLY FIT THE SHIPS!!!! The Jarrasul dwarfs the phase window it travels through and the Mothership. If a ship doesn't fit in the phase window it is in doesn't that mean that the pieces hanging out shouldn't come along for the ride? 5. Smaller flak particles for the TEC Titans. 6. Corvettes move to violent and don't turn the way other ships do. 7. Campaign, it would be impossible to put a face on the Unknown Enemy and still keep its mystery and almost God-like reputation, but you can do it like this. For the Vasari Empire, start out expanding the Empire, conquering every world in your path. Then the inner planets go silent, you send ships. No response. Then the Dark Fleet launches, 1 ship returns. Build the Exodus Fleet and depart Vasari Space, battle the Advent and TEC then realize they have lingered too long then Rebellion breaks out. But I don't know how you would go about doing the whole Rebellion thing with all the factions. And with the Advent that I will lead up to you since they are a mystery. And the TEC, ohh the TEC, expand the Trade lanes, find the Advent, silence maybe a small little fight with Advent ships above their world before exile. Then show a cinematic symbolizing 1k years have past then the Vasari come to wreak unholy destruction on accident then the revenge seeking, ruthless, PMS-ing Advent come back and mess up the poor Trade Order. I feel really bad for the Trade Order you know?8. Ooh Ooh Ooh maybe even some trailers from the Vasari and Advent point of view because all we have seen is the TEC's an don't get me wrong I like that it shows how much pity the TEC really deserve9. Just a given but make a new sound for when weapons hit shields because it sounds so wimpy, like a small sizzle.10. Also just a given but more freedom with how long we can make our ship names.11. Again a given, group scuttle, maybe I am the only one tired of....say if you have a column of gauss platforms you don't like anymore because your ex-wifes on one of them maybe. You have to select them one after another to scuttle. Also if you have ships you don't need like 150 Javelis, well I feel I need Kodiaks, well I have to now click one then scuttle, then click another and scuttle. 12. Its annoying to me, the size of the guns on the Garda, they should be slightly smaller and ^^^ should rotate!!13. Advanced game options, like being able to disable certain things in the game to make it more interesting, like "No Frigates" "No Superweapons" "No Capital Ships" "No Research" "No Fog of War"- All planets discovered."No Starbases" "No Cruisers" "No Defense Structures" "No Strikecraft" "No Anti-Structure Cruisers" "No Culture" things like that. I got the idea from the computer version of Supreme Commander 2. I think it would be really awesome! And say if you disable Frigates then you get bonus supply of Capital Ship supply, things like that would be really really cool. 14. Make the Ankylon bigger!! It is supposed to be a defensive Titan right? Then why is it so small and barely deserve the name Titan? I know that throughout the Rebellion updates you are going to buff and debuff the Titans and different faction abilities. Also make areas where weapon fire from Titans is visible as to where the weapon shots are coming from and make an engine for the Vasari Rebel Titan, I mean the flame is coming out of no where and more than one engine for the Advent's new battleship.15. Smaller Nuclear Warheads launched from the Krosev and TEC Capital Ships. 16. Improved graphics - New skyboxes and more of them, more detail on the textures of ships and planets17. Remove the big f-ing guns on the TEC Capital Ships, I mean they are not artillery mounts. I am pretty sure with the technology the TEC have they can launch nukes out of maybe Silos. Would we like that, Maybe like Battlestar Galactica did it, have the Silos pop out of the top of the ship and missiles not bombs the size of cities. 18. Remove anti-structure cruisers, people end up spamming them, the AI spams the hell out of them, they just sit in the back and destroy everything in the gravity well. I also don't like the design of the Ogrov, I mean the torpedoes or so massive and it clearly shows that they have a supply of what 4? Where do the others come from?????? I mean it makes sorta sense with the Advent, somehow guided plasma balls fall out of a plasma spawning pool that dominates the entire design of the ship. 19. Retool the look of the new Vasari battleship, and rename it. Its not a battleship. Am I the only one who doesn't like the veins running through the hull of it, it also either looks like a lobster or a Reaper from Mass Effect. Umm oh yeah the Vasari Corvettes......get rid of the veins and I think they would look better if they didn't have the little arms, I personally hate the look of the Vasari's Corvettes. I think they look like flying space beetles that when they are the Loyalist they are green and the Rebel...orange? I just don't like them. My friend said you kinda half-assed the new Vasari Capital Ship and Corvettes. I think personally you should take them back to the drawing board. Neither of them have that "Vasari Look".20.Phase Missile and Missile turning, when a Capital ship or LRM Frigate fires missiles, whether they are phase or normal, if one misses it spins around the ship then makes a quick sharp turn, cutting its stream. It has bothered me since the beginning. I think they should turn more elegantly. 21. Make finding artifacts not so damn hard to find!!22. A new spacial phenomena, maybe like a huge gravity well, almost the entire gravity well of neutral homing mines or some are stationary. A full thing like top bottom and middle, a big sphere of semi-powerful mines. If anyone else has any suggestions please reply.I have been playing Sins of a Solar Empire since the original and I am a true fan and I absolutely love this game, it is amazing. If the makers of SOASE see this please consider the things I have suggested.
You do realize how much more processing power it would take to make rotating guns, right?
Homeworld 2 was capable of it.
Homeworld 2 also tended to have a few less ships on the field at a given time...
Then again, we're not talking an update to Sins, such things are certainly reasonable given the assumption that a Sins 2 would be done with an (please, for the love of god...) engine that will better utilize higher end system.
This sums up a lot of things I would like to see in Sins 2, but I will add a few of my own suggestions:
Improved graphics - new skyboxes and more of them, more detail on the textures of ships and planets
Warning: please do not go down the cartoony graphics route that Supreme Commander took with #2 and Command and Conquer went with Red Alert 3 and Command and Conquer 4. I did not buy those games specifically because of the step backwards in graphics that they took from their predecessors.
Rotating guns - this is a must. Has been said many times so no need to state how important this is.
Nicer UI - while the UI was improved with new skins for each race in Rebellion, the general menus are still very basic. There should of course be many more options (the OP already said this). Take a look at Endless Space for some inspiration on how to do great menus that look beautiful and are awesome. Just seeing those menus sold me on the game.
Please do not also take a step backwards in units - please keep the six subfactions with unique titans and corvettes, maybe add some more unique units for each subfaction. Now for this fourth race, there could be two subfactions as well, with some differences like the existing subfactions.
CAMPAIGN! - make it really awesome. If you have played the Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars campaign, this is a great example of how to do cutscenes and story that is fun and also satisfyingly cheesy
More 4X stuff - but only in certain areas. Diplomacy is fun and has the potential to reap great rewards, so expand on this. Economy is not fun (especially in an RTS) so keep it simple, like it is now (black Market is good)
Improve the AI - make it funner and able to use diplomacy and smart tactics
Pirates - make them not so much of a nuisance in late game and not so much of a killer in early to mid game.
Multicore support, 64 - bit, multi threading and all that jazz. The technical improvements.
New Engine. Nuf said.
Oh, and T - Man, could you update this post with new ideas you find good? And another request: organize your points. If you could just put some spaces in between that would be awesome. Make it an easier read. Also, most of your points are things that could be fixed in a mod for Rebellion. Just saying.
I'll say anything else that pops into my head later.
I want a sins game that takes place on a planets surface. With a game like sins it could be very innovative.
I'm still waiting for more details on Galactic Civilizations III (other than SD alluding to its development)...Sins 2 is so far on the back burner as far as I can tell...
Ibnpatuta I updated with one of your suggestions and I spaced them.
Thank you so much T - Man. It looks a lot less intimidating than that wall of text that was present before.
I'll make sure to follow this thread.
i just want more content - ships, lore, races more developed and more art work (cgi videos for each race separate minimum 3:00 min) MORE STruCTUres and more micro exploring - more mystery... ooh and perhaps new defense structures? and a new starbase (it will let you choose which one you want to build)- more variety biger deadlier ships and are VERY RARE worth 200,000 credits so when you see one your titan runs away automatically and you get an audible warning
Yes! Better exploring! I love exploring.
Umm no new ships, I am incredibly happy with Titans, I think its like if you have been playing from the original its like this Sins: OH MY GOD! CAPITAL SHIPS!Sins Entrenchment: OH MY GOD! STARBASES! GOOD GOD!Sins Diplomacy: Eh I can tell allies what to do. yay. SINS REBELLION!!!: SWEET MOTHER OF GOD!!!! TITANS!!!
I agree. I think that Sins 2 does not need to add any new ships, but a thorough redesign of most or even all of them is to be expected in a sequel. However, existing designs should be changed only if the newer design would be better. No need to change something good into something ugly simply so that it is different from its previous incarnation.
I do hope that Sins 2 will have all of the ships of the original Sins, or if not all of the types then the rest could be added in expansions, so that in the end Sins 2 has the same types of ships as Sins 1.
There is room for more structures, though. It would be great is each faction could have two different starbases to choose from instead of one. It would also be great if each faction could have at least one unique structure that the other two factions do not get that would be tailored to their lore and play style.
Artifacts could also use a touch-up. In my opinion, given that they are so rare, they should be MUCH more powerful. It would be really cool if instead of just appearing as a drawing in the research tree, they would have a 3D model that you could swivel around to look at and admire, like items in Skyrim.
Now to propose some really big changes for Sins 2.
1. A planet terraforming tech for the Advent in the middle of the tech tree, for the TEC late in the tree, and for the Vasari Rebels at the end. Assuming that the subfactions are preserved from Rebellion, the Advent Loyalists should get the tech first, then the Advent Rebels, then the TEC Loyalists, then the TEC Rebels, and finally the Vasari Rebels. The Vasari Loyalists should not have one because it would not fit their lore and they get Stripped to the Core. However, the VR want to cooperate with the other races, and not run crazily out of the universe like the VL, so it makes sense that they get the tech, but very late because it is a very new development. Better yet, make it so that the VR only have access to it if they have a special Terraforming Pact with an Advent or TEC player.
The terraforming would change one planet type into a different one by player choice, unless the planet is an asteroid, in which case it must go through the Dwarf Planet stage before turning into any other planet type. From a Terran, Ice, Desert, or Volcanic planet it can turn into another planet type. So it would be possible, with a lot of resources and time, to turn an Ice planet into a Terran or vice versa.
Wait. That is a really bad idea. That would mean that by the end of the game there would only be Desert and Terran planets. Never mind about that. Unless someone else has a great idea about how to do terraforming.
2. A view from inside your ships. This would mean whole 3D bridges and cockpits would need to be designed, but it would greatly enhance the viewing experience of a battle. This would be awesome if it was from a fighter or bomber or from the bridge of a capital ship or titan or frigate. Really, I don't think that they would make an interior for every ship, so just for the fighters and bombers would be fine. Then you could see them zip around combat through the view of the pilot, or in the case of the Advent, the Anima. When the strike craft died, it would return you back to commanding view, and while in the cockpit there would be a button to switch views. When you would select a squadron, in addition to the normal buttons there would be a cockpit view button. If the interiors were detailed and suited to each race that would be awesome too.
There was another one but I forgot it while typing the other two points so I suppose it will have to wait until later.
Wow. I haven't typed this much about anything since my collector's edition thread.
The only things I really think Sins II couldn't do without would be..
Also, regarding the OP...
18: Orgovs are fine. Build fighters or Corvettes and you'll shred them.
19: It's a nano-battleship. Yeah, a weird unit type, but that's what it is. Regarding the look of it, IMO it looks fine. Based on the lore, it sounds like it's a completely new type of capital for them, the first in thousands of years so of course it will look different. The Corvettes have a lore explanation behind them for why they look like that.
21: They are supposed to be rare. Get over it.
Regarding the idea of a campaign...
TEC [easy]: Start off defending a planet with a Sova and a couple Cobalts against pirate raids. Following that, go put down some rebellion in a nearby system. Next mission would be when the Vasari show up and kill you. Missions against them ensue. Later, the Advent show up. Missions against both Advent and Vasari ensue. Eventually you hit Entrenchment and Diplomacy units and then your empire splits (upon reaching this point, you'll pick rebel or loyalist and continue). Last, the Chasers show up and battles ensue.
Advent [medium]: start 1027 years ago when they are expelled. Try to defend your fledgling refugees against pirates and local warlords that haven't been dethroned by the Trade Order yet. Skip ahead and put down some insurrections. Skip again and invade the TEC, etc.
Vasari [hard]: start when the nearly-destroyed capital shows up at the planet and perform the evacuation with a single Jarrasul Evacuator. Defend and expand your empire as you attempt to run. All missions require setting up expensive beacons behind you and have a time limit. Conquer a few fledgling races along the way and enslave as many as possible before continuing. Skip to TEC, etc.
Is that the Borg Queen dancing Sinperium?
How does this relate to the OP?
It is very obvious. T-man is desperately trying to save his thread from the pit of despair that was page two of the forums. This relates to the OP because, well, I guess ten more people will see it before it drops off into the abyss. It doesn't, really.
I have one thing that I think would make Sins 2 complete. I want my Jarrasul Evacuators to have an ability to turn them into a party ship. I want them launching fireworks into space, stringing up lights on the sides of the ship, and I want to see little Vasari people running around inside being rowdy. There should be loud alien music playing when you zoom in. The ability should spawn a ton of culture in the gravity well and after about 20 seconds of this people should start to eject in escape pods (colonizing whatever planet they are in orbit around) and the ship would light up with red strobes. After 30 seconds it should explode in a great blaze of Vasari pyrotechnics, doing massive to enemy ships and structures around, causing a chain reaction of interstellar partying as enemy ships and structures also blow up in great fireworks shows. Of course, this should be an ability only unlocked as an ultimate ability and should only be used in the most dire of circumstances.
What do you think? Would this ability make the Evacuator a true Vasari population ship? Because everybody knows the Vasari are the rowdiest of the Sins races.
The author of said post is the OP author as well?
Amazingly, yes.
OH another one of those -1
Bleh what ever I like this post
Campaigns just wouldn't fit. The game is about expanding your tiny little empire out.
You can't really do missions without completely blowing the whole purpose of a 4x game (regardless RTS or Turn-base) out of the water of choosing w/e you want to do.
It would be really awkward having this odd preset of doing missions yet still be able to go where ever you want. In Diplomacy you had the choice of doing misions not forced to do them.
Galactic Civilizations 2
I actually bought Galactic Civilizations 2, and played the entire campaign. It was not fun. Especially towards the end, when I had to hole up at my planets and just wait until I could get battleships and then crush the Dread Lords.
Still, I hope that for Sins 2 Ironclad can come up with an innovative way to make a 4X campaign riveting and fun while still being a Sins game. I am sure it is possible, it just takes a lot of creative thinking and a lot of dedication to make it good.
Here is my addition.
1. HDTV resolutions.
2. 64bit and multicore support.
3. planetary battles.
4. coop modes where cooping players can enter Admirality ship to micromanage battles, act as generals for planetary battles, or even take command fo squads or corvettes via joystick like in proper simulator
5. add role playing events to any map as well as a campaign.
6. add the gods coming to teach us humility.....and wreaking havoc all over.
7. add some synthesis for planetary construction (why not rebuild a planet or something)?
