I realize that most post focus on the negetives so I would like to say some positive things.
Some of the cool stuff that I really like is when the earth elemental or grave elemental come out of the ground. I know it's trival but I like that kind of stuff. The other cool thing I ran into is summoning a fire elemental in the tactical battle. The area becomes dark red as it is casted. This is really cool. I don't get a ton of time to play this game but I hope there is a lot more of this kind of stuff. The last game I playing I noticed the lighting is gone in the pits. I hope that this did not get taken out. I found that pretty cool also. I also like the lightening strike sounds in the back ground. I like all the special effects.
Keep up the great work. It's getting harder to stop playing.
Its not trivial, it some of what gives each and every game, and this game a lot of great flavour, helps set a fantastic mood when playing, and I concur, more of these kind of.... flavourful animations!
Sincerely~ Kongdej
Personnally, I'd like more of that "eart" feel, as I said in other post already and still complaining about it... [e digicons]:'([/e] I'd like to see earth walls, fissures, earth spikes... as spells with some cool effects that would give you a feeling of controling the soil under your ennemy's feet.
But among the cool stuff, the effect of the tidal wave (or whatever is the name of that spell) is incredibly good !!! I espeically love that it comes from the ocean and you can't cast it unless the target is close from a shore
I hope they will include more effects like that and more spells... Because right now it's still a bit poor IMHO or I don't know, just the visual are not appealing...
But overall, they are doing an amazing job ! The effects for the terraforming spells and volcano are already incredibly good... Even if the volcano is already TOO OP, that would be nice to let him active with rivers of lava flowing from it and forming each turns in the land... Well, something that would make that spell dangerous to use for you too, so you would hesitate to cast it rather than only having factions rebelling against you... I mean, when you are the master in every aspect of the game, why bother to hesitate to annihilate everybody with a lot of cruelty ?
There's a lot of cool stuff to mention IMHO from the game, like the landscape that really makes me drool and how they made some part of it, the design of some monsters, some cool quests, fun spells and lately, I love how they were working on races differences and on cities once out, this game is going to be a real blast... Especially since Warlock was a total failure compared to FE.
Also, the modding community already comes with some amazing stuff, which is truly tremendeous for a game still in Beta.
Last but not least, I think FE will be a dign competitor to AOWSM and MOM once out and for me that's probably the coolest stuff of them all !!!!
How cool would it be to cast the lightening spell and have a rolling cloud with lightening come up to the unit that then gets zapped.
Casting a rainstorm that causes mud which can slow units down would be cool also. This spell could also be used to remove road sections from the map by washing the road away.
Yea the animations are amazing. I usually never care much for such in stratgey games but here I find myself casting the random spell just to see its animation even if its not the best move in a tactical battle.
Just yesterday I was Blizzard spamming just cause I couldn't get enough of the snow left after the fact on the tactical map.. hilarious!
Cause you didnt know what you were "missing", I honestly think half a game is its animations and interface, basically how it looks, with funny animations and awesome animations all over, the gameplay can be lacking, just so I can run around casting silly spells
Not that I have anything specific to add as I have not yet played FE, but these animations and quickcuts (as I like to call them) are what REALLY drove the fantasy appeal in MoM (and that was 8 bit).
You havent?
Yeah, I know eh?
All these suggestions and comments coming from someone who hasn't played the actual beta....
I figured that it would be good idea to have an outside perspective on the product....before digging in, playing, and being critical. I think I would have been too critical of beta 3, so I held off......really like where beta 4 has gone.
I've played many 4x games over the years however....I know what mechanics I liked and which ones I didn't. Mash them up into one game and you get FE.
Obviously the main source I use as reference is MoM as that game simply ROCKED. If the AI was given a patch do-over, I'd still be playing that game regularly....instead of just for nasalgia.
I plan on jumping on board with beta 4. Have a two week window in August that demands 4x game time.
